with the exception of that DPI i don't believe sf has a first down

Evaluating the game today strictly from a Hurts perspective it was the definition of a mixed bag.

The Good:

Easy win on the road over a division rival, no turnovers, high accuracy when he did put the ball in the air, further established his value in short yardage

The Bad:

Basic strategy tells you when you’re playing against the team leading the league in sacks and without your LT — get the ball out.  Hurts didn’t/couldn’t do it.  The punishment he took today didn’t injure him today, but it may lead to cumulative injury this season — especially if his history is an indication.  No points in the first quarter again today, and again the offense did not get on track until Barkley galloped more than half the field.

This was an easy victory dictated, IMO, more by the ineptitude of the opponent than a dominant performance by the Eagles.  Hurts was a game manager today, not a leading force.

What a HUGE mistake!

Oh, BTW, we still score a TD on this drive.

First game back, with very limited practice window coming off of PUP.  I'm ok with them bringing him along slowly, especially with that field.  I expect his PT to grow as he accumulates more practice time with Fangio.  Most importantly, I want him to learn his job so that he can still play fast, but play within the system rather than running around like a crazed maniac.   He's got amazing speed... and does everything at full speed.  But, last year, IIRC, he did the wrong things at full speed almost as much as he did the right things.  He just needs to learn how to control himself out there and bring it under control.

I also think Maddox is a better S than CB, so I’m completely ok with him given limited reps to ease him into things.  ST is pin your ears back and maintain your ‘lane’.  Tape will show how confident he is and you work him onto the field more if he’s part of the plan going forward.  Maddox is gone after this season.

Missed wide open saquon here. Story of hurts career. Can’t see the field

Commies getting such a cakewalk to start the season.  Only 2 of the teams they've faced so far are any good.

TB: 4-2
NY: 2-5
CIN: 3-4
ARI: 2-4
BAL: 4-2
CAR: 1-5

They get the 4-2 Bears next week but then it's right back to the trash ass Giants.

Yeah, but I don't think Bears aren't a good team either. That Cincy win was very impressive though.

Lets say this was the superbowl and these were hurts end stats in a super bowl they won would he be worth the contract then?

I dont care about his contract, he wasnt a problem today, eagles won hurts didnt contribute to a loss he can be way better, will he? Probably not but he was good enough today.🤷‍♂️

Ok.  We will agree to disagree.  We won, Saquon is the game MVP.  That’s all that matters.

49ers look terrible.

you love to see it though

Rewatch the fox broadcast, Mark Sanchaz was calling it out live as Hurts was yelling over to the sidelines.

Mark Sanchaz said nothing live the entire game, but sure I’ll go back and look.  I honestly don’t remember  that being mentioned by Sanchez…if it did I want to forget.

They (commanders) didn’t beat Baltimore but they played decent. Didn’t expect them to go in there and win. Bears have a good defense. I don’t really trust their offense. I think they got fortunate playing teams like jags, Carolina and banged up rams over the last 3 weeks. Schedule is much tougher after their bye outside of New England and Arizona

I'm guessing Barkley wasn't his first read

Also it would be incredibly frustrating to see him get hurt on a meaningless drive in a game that's in the bag, just to get him a team/personal record.

This is why I’m encouraged by Gainwell this game.  He might have had his best game as an Eagle IMO.  Stats aside, he was amazing.

Bad teams don't blowout other bad teams by 3+ scores.

You missed the early game today then.

That's the kind of thing where you will typically see an offense come back to (the same play) later in the game and adjust it to make Barkley the 1st read. However, that was the last pass Jalen threw in this game. These things happen to every QB on every team, in every game. There will always be receivers getting wide open on plays where the QB looks elsewhere.

Unfortunately today, this nearly cost us the game as we were only able to come away with 7 points on that drive and extend the lead to 18 points.

On a day that the team dominated on both sides of the ball - that’s what you have to say?

Sooner or later you need to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself if you’re an Eagles fan or if you’re just a constant naysayer.

This team will move on - with or without you.

Go Birds!!!

🦅

Barkley, the defense, the OL (run blocking) and even Gainwell are the story of this game.   Hurts, at most, gets an honorable mention.   That was a 2000 Trent Dilfer type performance where he just hands the ball off to Jamal Lewis and let's him and the defense take care of the rest.

Some people want to make this game about Hurts?  Nah.  He was a spectator for most of the day today.  He was almost a non-factor.  It's good that he didn't turn the ball over.   Meanwhile, this team had 4 scoring drives...  they had 5 non-scoring drives (Not counting anything after they pulled the starters).

1st half:

Drive 1: 17 yards of offense.  1 run, 3 called passes (1 sack).  0 points.
Drive 2: -4 yards of offense.  1 run, 3 called passes (1 sack).  0 points.
Drive 3: 22 yards of offense.  5 runs, 3 passes (1 sack).  0 points.

Drive 4: 74 yards of offense.   5 runs, 0 passes.  7 points.

Drive 5: 58 yards of offense.  2 runs, 4 passes.  7 points.

Drive 6: -9 yards of offense.  1 run, 2 passes (1 sack).  0 points.

2nd half:

Drive 7: 4 yards of offense.  1 run, 2 passes.  0 points.

Drive 8: 77 yards of offense.  8 runs, 2 passes.  7 points.

Drive 9: 92 yards of offense.  10 runs, 0 passes.  7 points.

Now, tell me how involved Hurts was in the domination.   He made one really nice throw to Brown for the TD on 4th and 3.  Ironically, because of how poorly he executed a much easier pass on 3rd and 3.   Hurts was not the story of today's game... at all.

Purdy throws a better pass that’s a TD.

This isn't a bad team.  This is an extremely talented team that can't get out of its own way at times... for a variety of reasons.

Still living in the past? Go back to the 2022 season and bump some of your chicken little posts from that season. Remember how we were only really dominant in the 2nd quarter and then were lucky to milk that lead to survive the second half?

We beat a division rival on the road by 25 points. Did we do that last year?

If he can play mistake free football and they limit him to 25 throws max while leaning heavy on the run game that can be a winning formula.

If he has to throw 30-40 times a game or more then we're probably in trouble.

Don't know how possible it is but I wouldn't mind trading for a pretty good RB to pair with Barkley.
