People are ragging on Hurts?

The OL did a terrible job pass protecting, Johnson was a turnstile the first half, Steen struggled the second half.

Given that, and the way the defense was playing, I think Hurts choose to take the sack rather than force plays and turn the ball over  a number of times.

The line was solid run blocking, Gainwell was 9 for 50 before the garbage time runs for 2 yards.

But they were putrid pass blocking, Lawrence blew up the middle of the line numerous times.

The defense seems to be finally jelling, DeJean was a great pick, 1st rd talent and a top PR to boot. With him out there, suddenly it's a solid secondaruy with no drop off when Ringo came in for Slay. And Fangio seems to have gone from a 3-4 to a 4-3 under with the RDE split wide.

We dont really do left to right reads with Hurts at QB. We always have half field reads for him. If his head started to the left, Id expect it to go farther left. Not to the right. Also, just looking at where his head is to start, he probably should have seen Barkley. if not Barkley, he probably should have seen that defender in the end zone stumbling and realized immediately that Barkley was going to have room to operate.

Of course, that would be like, real QB processing to see a defender and realize how that is going to affect a play for another player.

It looked like he was staring at the center goal post off snap and stayed there.  We can only see the direction his helmet was facing basically, but he would not have seen Barkley before he bailed.

Great coverage on that.  He knew he had underneath help, so he could focus on over the top.  Shame he couldn't bring that INT in.   One day he'll actually finish the play with an INT.

He was pulled because of the blowout you troglodyte

Did you read my post? lol and I’m the troglodyte…he had 2 passes the 1st drive of the 2nd half and wasn’t allowed to think about it after.  Nothing to do with pulling the starters 20 mins later.

Or he could've:

- Stepped up in the pocket (when applicable)

- Taken off and run

- Thrown it away

No one playing the position should ever intentionally take multiple sacks in a game and even trying to argue that was the plan is ludicrous

Last two weeks I’m less bummed about us passing on Edgerrin Cooper since DeJean looks legit

Q is a stud. Great pick

I know it’s still early, but picks 1, 2, and 3 are looking good to great

That's the type of mentality this defense has needed for years.

If his inability to pick off the ball is his biggest mark against him right now, I’ll take it

Still not sure what he is as a player

"If he could catch, he'd be playing offense."  ;)

But, the lack of turnovers created by this defense is crazy.  It's like they are allergic to it.

Oh AFan…there’s so much you talk of right here…but seriously he chose to take sacks instead of stepping up or throwing the ball away?  Yes pass blocking was iffy a lot, but he had lanes he never used on most sacks.  Missed open WR’s.  OL was more than solid in run blocking too.

Honestly that was way too over the top, i get what he’s trying to say…but that was cringe worthy.

Allow me to introduce you to Jameis Winston

The lack of turnovers is frustrating. But with the pass rushing starting to heat up & secondary playing well, that feels like the next thing coming

false dilemma. The choice is never just take the sack or force a play and turn it over.

He can also throw it away. OR instead of choosing to take the sack, he could choose to throw to a wide open WR.

It does indeed.

Me either. Next week will be a very good test for the young secondary going against an elite QB/WR combo in Burrow/Chase + Higgins. I’m actually kinda confident in our guys, I expect Slay to mostly be on Chase but I would prefer it to be Q

We are 4-2 (should be 5-1🤬) and only have 3 TOs on defense in 6 games.

I think we are all frustrated because this team should be special and they are just above decent so far.

I did not see it that way. I think he was looking at the huddle of players to the left of where you think he was looking. Those guys never broke open and he never came off of them. It would have been so easy to keep scanning left, much more quickly than that.

Do you really think Hurts ever looks right in the center of the field?

afan has died on hills before, but usually he thinks and supports his argument better. That was like RTK level posting right there. Disappointing.

It’s soooo frustrating. If this team hits their potential they are a legit Super Bowl caliber team.

If they can continue to gel to together albeit with an easy stretch to the schedule they may actual be that team nobody wants to face in Dec & Jan.
