I saw the same thing on the Barkley play on the replay during the game.  Jalen just playing extremely smart foorball right now.

First, why are they running a wheel route to Gainwell as the primary read.  Second, why does he step up ready to make the throw vs. what he does which is move laterally so he is unable to reset quickly and really doesn't have a running lane.  He should be stepping up and if he's not throwing it to Gainwell be ready to throw it to Devonta.

Tommy reported that Barkley told Siri to give the snaps to back-up RBs.  He could use the snaps to set the rushing record for himself, but opted to let the RBs getting game experience.  Impressive!

The "pressure" on the DeVonta play is caused by Hurts moving to his left. He's sitting in a perfect pocket and instead of throwing when Smith is wide open, the argument ESP is making is it was better for him to put 2 hands on the ball? THROW the ball. Yes, there is a decent pass rush but the pocket is there to sit in. Burns does beat Fred Johnson but isn't an immediate threat if Hurts throws the ball when Smith breaks open.

the Barkley play is absolutely horrible. Now only is the TE double covered, but you can see immediately when the ball is snapped that the defender who should be covering the RB gets pulled to the middle. It should be a bang bang instant reaction to see that and know Barkley is wide open. Hurts just continues staring at all the congestion until he runs out of time. You cant defend that. There is no excuse.

Smith play is still bad too. When you think Gainwell is covered, then you know you have Smith coming across. It should be another instant decision as things happen in your brain. It shouldnt be taking him so much time to process these things. This is supposed to be NFL level QBing.

correct, but before that he shouldnt need extra time. This stuff should be split second reactions to what he sees.

I reported that when Siri reported it at his post game presser.

Don't overstate your case. He wasn't bad.  The o-line struggled with protection.  He struggled with his awareness.  He missed 2 wide open throws.  The miss to Devonta is inexplicable.  The miss to Barkley may have been progression related but it's also shows a lack of recognition by him.  He was good enough to win against a bad team.  His mistakes did not lead to turnovers and did not kill scoring chances.

Look at him compared to Daniel Jones.  It's inarguable that Jones was worse.  If you look around the League, Hurts was better than more than half of the QBs around the League. He had 2 very good plays escaping pressure and getting a first down.  As much as you may want to, the team should not discount his running ability when assessing his value to the team.

There are so many things that dont show up in the stats because he never got a throw off to record as a completion or incompletion. Yes, he was bad.

I should never be surprised by the negadelphianism, but I still am.  There were some real positive takeaways from that game yesterday.

The first double digit win since Miami on 10/22/23. Seems like the first time in forever where the Eagles didn't play to their opponent, they just did their thing and executed as best they could and it was more than good enough.

The second clean game in a row from Hurts. Even better, the running game got going; and it was consistently good, and not just a flash or two from Saquon.

No funny business from the defense, got the pass rush going against a very mobile QB and allowed no TDs again. We might have a legit secondary.

The NFL is a big slop fest so far this year, I don't give two ishs who the opponent is, just keep moving in the right direction

Hurts was being conservative b/c the game dictated that approach.

You've held the Giants to 3 points, your ground game is humming, then you run the ball, take a few shots, and punt rather than turn the ball over if you're on your side of the field.

Given the poor pass blocking, the one thing you don't want is Hurts trying to force plays.

As of this morning, our defense is 9th in yards per game and 7th in points per game.

I still have lots of concerns with the offense. Like, how will they perform when they play a defense that has a pulse?

The Eagles rely on the big play way too much. They cannot methodically move the ball down the field. They can’t string together long drives that milk the clock. They live and die by big plays.

1st TD drive - 55 yard run

2nd - 41 yard TD pass

3rd - 38 yard run

4th - 41 yard run

If they didn’t hit a big play, the offense struggled to even move the ball.

But that's the entire philosophy of how we play defense.  Limit the explosive plays and make the opposing offense move the ball methodically.

We had four plays over 20 yards.  All led to scores.  The Giants didn't have a play longer than 14 yards, they couldn't score a TD that way.

That's how the NFL works now.

It's not good QB play.

Glad Jalen knew we had some possessions to burn out of the gate, and was willing to play the long game.  Playing not to lose has its applications, I suppose, just not on most weeks.

We are second in red zone defense and last in takeaways.

Hurts aside, every week we enter a game and seemingly have no offensive game plan at all and then figure it out as the game goes.

I see plenty of teams able to march the ball down the field week in and week out. I'm sure most TD drives have a splash play in them, but the constant reliance on 40+ yard plays is not sustainable.

Really encouraging to see the blog back to 2022 form. Makes me excited for the rest of the season.

It's funny how desperate rtk is to defend his bf's horrible play week after week

Defense is due for turnovers. They've had quite a few missed ints

There is nothing quick about his decision making. He might be the slowest processor of all time.

That's like saying they hit too many HRs.

Now if you swing for the fences and end up with a low OPS b/c you strike out too much, that's bad.

But if you pick your spots and don't distort your swing (offense), HRs/big plays are always a good thing.

One thing people forget, Browns and Giants have top ten defenses with some Allpro types (Garrett, Lawrence)

And putrid offenses.

When you play teams like that, you play it close to the vest, avoid turnovers, mistakes on defense/STs that lead to easy TDs for the other team.

Yea, Davis played 12 snaps yesterday all game. Each game the last 3 games his snaps are getting less and less. He hasn’t played more than 50% since the Saints game.

His usage makes his selection look really really bad.  He has talent, but his lack of availability on the field is concerning.   A mid 1st round pick should not be struggling to be on the field 50% of the time.  He should be on the field 75% of the time to make the selection worthwhile.   The term 'bust' may not be the best term for him, because he can play... when he is used correctly.   But, it is becoming clear he was over drafted.   You don't draft a rotational RB in the first round... and you don't draft a rotational NT in the first round either.
