I do, especially when there's a lane to break the pocket and throw it away. Field position matters.

Please, show me where the lane is to break the pocket? I've got it clocked to the sack you're referring to

Duffy must be a r word.

Goff has been incredible. It's certainly an outlier season IMO, but hats off to him for doing what he's done.

Oh Jeezus.  This post most certainly woke up Random Reglar.

The only thing about BVS is that he was a FB at Michigan for 2 years. This isn't the same old RR wet dream of Lane Johnson playing QB because he was a QB in JUCO. Clearly, BVS still has FB in his blood. I'm all for a unique role for him if it's spot duty at LB, FB and ST. If Patrick Ricard can play FB/DT, there's no reason BVS can't do LB and FB.

Bottom line, I want a FB on the roster.

Field position matters.   At the time, it was a scoreless game.   Pinning the Giants inside the 10 is easier when you are punting from mid field than from your own 40.   And if he throws the ball away, he doesn't get landed on by the big uglies chasing after him.   It's just the smart play.

I agree the smarter play is to throw it away in that instance, but we have a scrambling QB that can run, so we're going to have to live with him trying to extend plays which may not always work out in our favor.  If he simply throws it away each time, then we don't get plays where he converts for a first down after eluding a sack and running for the 1st. The problem before was he was scrambling and fumbling, I'll take a sack and us punting over a turnover.

You're saying you don't know why I'm upset that he took this sack?

That's not the play I highlighted, and he didn't give himself up there. He actually went for that lane but it got closed off. If we're going to debate at least be honest lol. let the video play for another couple of seconds and you'll see he actually did attempt to take that route, but the defenders closed it.

Had to check to make sure Becton wasn't fixing his gloves here. Not his best rep.

Are we honestly arguing taking sacks intentionally is good?

How much lower can we bring the bar?

To the guys in here who know O-line play, is Steen actually a better RG than Becton? Definitely feels like we don't miss anything with Steen in there.

If Becton weren't in concussion protocol, I'd want to at least think about moving him to LT and putting Steen at RG.

LOL. Getting the tickets via an auction thing, so they are 100 level apparently. The real surprise for dad is we are having lunch with Howie on Friday. Me, dad, my brother and my buddy from LA and his kid.

You should print out a copy of the blog to hand to Howie so he can learn how to do a better job.

Orlando Brown may be out Sunday.

He had plenty of time to not make it a negative play.

I feel like we need to re-visit the Wentz discussion if we want to see how low we can go.

I don't think we do, personally

They are different types of players. Becton is a MASSIVE human. He's 6-7 360. Steen isn't small by any means as he's 6-6 321, but it's easy to see that 40 pound difference. Becton is a mauler. Steen doesn't have that power. You're right though, the offense doesn't miss a beat with Steen in there. It's why if Becton is comfortable at LT, they absolutely should move him there and play Steen at RG until Mailata is healthy.

My ideal situation is that Becton learns RT and can replace Lane Johnson. Having Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Steen, Becton is best case long-term OL scenario IMO.

Ok so then you must mean this one below. You seriously can't find a lane for him to break the pocket here and throw it away?

Week to week...oof. I know it helps us, but sucks for Daniels. He has been balling.

EDIT: More context. Based on this, I'd be surprised if he played this week. Can't imagine they rush him back.

False dichotomy. You can use your legs to extend the play and still throw it away if you can't find anyone open. They aren't mutually exclusive.

The first sack was Johnson just getting beat handily by Burns.  I don't think the problem was Hurts' decision in the pocket but it's possible he could have called a different protection.  If he recognized they were sending 5 to get one on one matchups up front, why not have Saquon chip on Burns vs. help with Lawrence.

I’d say mariota looked good against Carolina but it’s Carolina. I had that game on, we think our tackling is bad at times. Carolina routinely is just awful at tackling. Almost every play there’s 2 missed tackles. And felt like every play someone was wide open 10-15 yards down field. They are the worst team in the league. New England being a close second

Yeah, as much as we say "it was only the Giants," I'm pretty sure the Giants would beat Carolina by 2 scores.

EDIT: Good Lord, Carolina as a -133 point differential in 7 games. They are losing by 19 points per game on average. That's unreal.

When running backwards... you aren't extending the play to make a positive thing happen.  Stop extending the play and cut bait.   That's where he gets himself in trouble extending plays.

I mean the LB Becton is in front of is in a position to close down the running lane. Not to mention that it's an incredibly short period of time between this shot and when Burns has him.  I don't think it's fair to blame Hurts for the sack based on this. It was a protection failure which may have been his fault.
