My only counter point is Hurts and his agent will also want to re-address his contract probably in 2 years which will move him back up the list.

Hopefully for a different team

Greg Cosell is right. I see a lot of people saying all Jalen Hurts needs to do is manage a game. Well, the Eagles didn't pay 50m per season for a game manager. You can get that for 15m per season. He was the highest paid player in NFL history on the day he signed his contract. He's paid to to be a "carry a team on his back" QB. I maintain that Hurts gets next season regardless. But if 2025 looks a lot like 2024 and 2023, then he's not the QB in 2026.

You can also get Daniel Jones for $40 million.  Gone are the days of middling salaried experienced starters.  Baker Mayfield is paid more than $30 million.  The divide is rookie vs. veteran. So it's not so much about Hurts relative cost vs. Mayfield.  It's really the question of his ceiling vs. drafting a replacement.

Have you watched Minshew this season? That's your "game manager."

Hurts is the highest rated QB out of a clean pocket. And he's been solid against the blitz.

It's when he gets pressure he shouldn't get (mostly when Fred Johnson was at OT) he's in trouble.

Funny thing is I think Baker is objectively better than Hurts these days in almost every aspect of QBing.

I can't believe a tweet about milk is still getting talked about lol

The milk thing is a bit odd but it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. It's not something I would do, but I don't think anyone who does that is legitimately crazy or anything. Now if a coach advises his quarterback not to eat chicken because it's a "nervous bird" and by the super scientific transitive property of "you are what you eat" doing so will also make you nervous and skittish, then yeah, that particular coach might actually be pretty F'ing crazy. In this case, it also happens to be the exact same coach, so I guess he might just actually be crazy.

It might depends on how Hurts is playing. If he plays a few stinky games in a row, he might not want to reopen any negotiations.

IMO, this feeds into how important it is where a QB lands and what he has around him.  Mayfield had an uneven 4 years in CLE and objectively (IMO) didn't deserve another contract there based on his level of play.  As we've seen before and since, CLE is a difficult place to excel as a QB and it's extraordinarily doubtful Hurts would have fared any better there than Mayfield under the same circumstances.  Mayfield gets replaced, moves onto CAR and plays on a very bad Panthers team with not very good results.  Mayfield then moves to the Rams where he starts a few games and is exposed to Sean McVay and gets a better caliber of coaching a some better players.  Mayfield then goes to Tampa Bay and is paired with much better talent in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.  He flourishes there and is playing like a top 10 QB, IMO.

Hurts has had much more stability through his NFL career so far.  Yes, he's played with various OCs (Doug, then Shane/Nick, BJ/Nick, Kellen/Nick -- but I think the offensive philosophy has remained largely the same throughout.  He's had DeVonta Smith with him since 2021 and AJ Brown with him since 2022.  He's had Goedert the entire time.

To me, what it all comes down to is -- with what Hurts has been given throughout his time here, he should be much more consistent and further along in his development than he is.  He took a huge Year 2 jump as a starting QB due to the AJ Brown acquisition but has been unable to maintain that level of play.

As far as Mayfield goes, he'll likely have a tough time for as long as Evans is out.  Godwin is gone for the season.  If he continues to look better than Hurts -- that would be very telling.

Maybe the giants are planning on being the first team to never use a Qb in a game

Didn't Denver do that a few years back against the Saints?

They did, they just didn't know it.

The COVID game? They had a WR masquerade as a QB because he played it in high school or something

So giants will be the second

AJ Brown is lazy, and pouts at teammates when he wants uppies and they dont give him uppies.

How did the Vikings just magically become good?

They won the Josh McCown Sweepstakes.  Where the Texans saw a head coach, the Vikings nabbed as a QB coach.

Head Coach Factory!

Another depressing "trash” Thursday night game where both QBs are exploiting linebackers over the middle and driving the ball right down the field.  And one of the QBs is Darnold. It’s infuriating thinking about what a decent QB could do with these weapons.

Watching Staffords head scan from the Right all the way over to Kupp on the left, in the red zone, and throwing it to Kupp on an in breaking route.... Its like wow. Thats what a QB looks like.

Pass was incomplete. Still amazed me.

Kevin O’Connell is a hell of a coach…and Flores

Flushed out of the pocket by pressure, but keeps his head up to find a WR open. wow.
