June 15, 20224 yr At least when they fire fletcher next offseason there’s a chance they also fire torts.
June 15, 20224 yr Choosing John Tortorella over Barry Trotz would be a Chuck Fletcher-thing to do. Watch whoever hires Trotz vault up the standings over the next 2-3 years, while Tortorella appears sporadically on SportsCentre clips blowing a gasket in postgame interviews

Apparently Trotz turned them down. Quote Torts the first choice? By all accounts he was not. According to multiple sources from both within and outside the organization, Tortorella was second on the Flyers wish list behind only recently fired New York Islanders coach Barry Trotz. According to two Flyers sources, Trotz, who started narrowing down his potential landing spots Monday, turned down an offer from the Flyers early on Tuesday, which led to the Flyers pivoting to Tortorella. https://www.crossingbroad.com/2022/06/flyers-to-hire-john-tortorella-as-next-head-coach.html

Trotz already spent the first 5-6 years of his career (many years ago) building the Predators from doormats to a contending team. He knows there's a ton of work to do with the Flyers and he'll have better offers. I doubt Tortorella will have other offers. Having said that, I don't think Tortorella is a bad coach at all; I just don't think his bombastic nature and personality will fit with a Flyers team that needs to get younger and develop players. He'll spar with the media and get burned out before the team is anywhere near contending, IMO.

And then look for a new coach the following offseason.

June 17, 20224 yr Another retread HC. Great. I guess it's better than another college/out of the box Coach hiring.

They are likely firing fletcher at the end of next year when they are not much better next year. Which means you likely have a GM replacing him that wants his own coach. Which it’s a hard sell for a team that needs a rebuild and likely replacing the GM in a year. Flyers continuously are dumb when it comes to moving on from coaches and GMs. They should’ve fired fletcher after this year. They’ve missed the playoffs 3 of 4 years he’s been here. Likely going to missing next year too. And we have some bad contracts.

But that third period and overtime it felt like they were gassed and Colorado was flying. If not for Vas and some posts the lightning really could’ve lost by 2-3 goals. I kind of would be surprised if tampa wins game 5

I kind of would be surprised if tampa wins game 5 Tampa definitely looks gassed. If they don’t have the get up on home ice in that situation, they’re never going to get it. They really miss a healthy point out there. Avs close it out in game 5.
June 23, 20224 yr Classic NHL. Allowing a blatant offside goal in OT to count to decide Game 5. I would say unbelievable -- but it is the NHL, after all.
