So that’ll do it. Flyers season basically over.

As a defender your sole job is to stop the pass on that play. Prov missed it twice!

Game.  Set.  Match.  3-1 game lead.  3-1 series lead.

And good night, all.

Yup.  Just not good enough.

Fletcher has work to do this offseason.  Need to get rid of as many older players as possible.  Would listen to trade offers for a couple of our young guys.

This is a speed+skill game now.

I am not very knowledgeable with hockey.  Never played the game.  Always enjoyed watching the Flyers though, although I took a hiatus for several years while working >100 hrs per week and only had the time to follow 1 sport, 1 team.  This team looks like it has a really nice even distribution of young talent across the roster, making for some nice depth, especially on D, with a young goalie with all the potential in the world.

I see 2 problems...1: they are still learning to be a winner.  This will improve with time, but right now, they have the look of a team that is happy with how far they've come here in 2020.  2...they really lack high end forward talent.  With respect to Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, and what Konecny may become, they don't seem to have those 1-2 studs that elite teams lean on to generate consistent scoring chances in huge games.

With those strengths and limitations, they remind me a bit of those 90's Devils teams that absolutely tortured the Flyers.  I hope this group can have half that success.

This is really the important factor.  These older players fall off a cliff fast, and with the game shifting to smaller, faster forwards and more agile dmen, the Flyers need to continue to revamp the roster.

They really need to unload giroux and JVR. However I don’t think that’s even possible right now especially with giroux’s nmc. Their cap space is 8.1 million. If you could get someone to take on JVR it goes up to 15 mil. Add on could trade ghost if you aren’t going to use him and get to 19.6 mil. Taylor hall is the best forward available. Frankly he’s not that great. He had one great year then much like the rest of our guys.

Well at least they have a shot now, but very likely too little too late.

Pointless goal

Not true provy gets a point. Lol

Puck sits in the corner for 20 seconds. Ugh

The team captain needs to do better than a futile tussle for the pick in the corner that lasts 20 seconds.

I’ll watch game 5 but... I’m going into Eagles mode now.

Dude he is a fraud. He’s been one since 2012 after he got the C. People gloat about his regular season meanwhile he’s been atrocious since the rangers series in playoffs.

Phillies have almost come back from 10-0

They haven’t come back from being a garbage team though.

Wish the Flyers had the cap space to make a run at signing Alex Pietrangelo as a FA.  It sure doesn’t look like Provorov is going to develop into a #1.

Pietrangelo would be the best defenceman they’ve had since Pronger.

I love Pietrangelo. He’s my favorite player to watch non-flyer related. You probably could do it if you manage to trade away ghost and someone takes JVR off your hands. The problem is you are going to have to get into a 5-6 year deal around 12 mil per. Are you willing spend that for a guy who turns 31 in January The first 3 years for sure he’d be worth it but at 34, 35 and 36 that’s a ton of money for a guy who’s likely not the same player.

So watching the other series in the semi-finals two noticeable things are glaring between most of the teams and the Flyers.

1. Besides the Boston Bruins against the lightning, all these teams do not struggle nearly as much as the Flyers to get the puck out of their own defensive zone. They have occasional lapses and occasional turnovers but not nearly as bad as the Flyers have been since the start of that Canadien series. It’s like alarmingly different seeing the Canucks or knights or avs or stars or lightning just get the puck out of the zone much easier than the Flyers. I get the islanders are a good defensive team but this has been an issue even during the round robin that progressively got worse. Heck it takes us 20 seconds on the power play just to organize and get out of the zone

2.  again taking Boston out of this, the rest of the teams are getting major contributions from their big time guys. You might be down in the series but guys are coming up scoring goals. Meanwhile the Flyers are barely getting one goal a game from the top six forwards and it’s been that way for the better part of the two playoff series. It’s hard enough to win when your top guys are scoring ask the Avs but it’s even harder when your top guys aren’t and your defense has been shaky at best moving the puck out of the zone.

Are you in Banff Jasper area?

Nah this is Washington state in Snoqualmie

I’m actually surprised Ghost didn’t play. He hasn’t been spectacular but I thought he’s been pretty solid at least.

Sadly they haven’t scored a second or third period goal in this series.

yup. the offense is the problem - especially defeating the opposing forecheck

I thought hagg actually played well last night from what i watched. He was awful in game 3. Niskanen has been pretty awful since the playoff series’ began he is a -7 overall and in this series -5. Plus minus isn’t always indicative but in this case it is. He’s been bad.

Niskanen has looked like ish the entire playoffs outside of maybe one or two games, this is what everyone was afraid of getting when they acquired him. Just don't understand how he played so well in the regular season and is just falling apart. Can't blame fatigue, they had 4 months off

Got it. Looks a lot like Banff. That part of the country is Gorgeous though.  I did a trip a few years ago hitting Olympic Rainier and North Cascades. Could have spent a whole month there if I had the ability!

My only guess is he’s off mentally from being in the bubble. Could be tough for guys with families? IDK. He was very good in the regular season and complete crap in the post season.
