NBC Sports Philadelphia continues to spiral downward. Over the last 2-3 years they have cancelled breakfast on broad and philly sports talk, turned sportsrise from a 30 minute show to 15 minutes, and laid off a lot of quality on air talent. Sad to see what has become of what was once an amazing sports station for the Philly sports fan.

Well with the rise of cord cutting and so many other options it's doesn't make sense to keep spending money towards those types of shows. I love those programs as well but that kind of stuff is not where tv and entertainment is trending.

Sounds kind of crazy, but what if you hired him to do video segments for the message board? Perhaps have a website side...

I don't think we have enough people here to support his salary to entertain us stoons.

They need to adapt with the times. Don’t fire people. Develop an app that works. Their current app is garbage. Make it possible to watch nba games through an app (more of an nba problem), if you are in that market. A lot of people don’t have cable anymore because the content sucks and a result of that is not having easy/legal access to their cities nba, nhl, mlb teams. I’m sure NBC could pull better ratings with the sixers on Tuesday night than whatever crappy sitcom they show.

Well that's where they want you to buy the NBA league pass. The NBA league pass  does give you an option to just watch the team you want. They all have those options through Sunday ticket and MLB has their own thing. NBC doesn't have the NBA rights to play the sixers on their major local network. ABC and TNT have their deals with the NBA.

Same way the NFL has deals with their networks. It's all a money game and NBC a parent company with comcast pulls in over 100 billion a year so like the old message board they don't care about a few thousand people that want to watch quick slants or want to post on a message board.

It really sucks but, that's how they do business these days.

I think you're right. The poor all-sports outlets have been desperate for something to talk/write about the past few months.

D Gunn was the best in the business. NFL players love him and he gets the best interviews after games. D Gunn was a huge part of the Eagles Post Game Show. I guess it will never be the same.

I wouldn't mind John Clark getting the Ax. can't stand him.

EAGLES Postgame Live won't be the same without him.

Speaking of which . . . what about Michael Barkann, Ray Diddy, Barrett Brooks & Seth Joyner ?

As crazy as you may think it sounds, I did have that fleeting thought flash through my head last night after I saw that he'd been laid off. But like @20dawk4life said, the amount of money that we'd need to pay him, would be enormous, I'm sure. I have no clue what they made on TV but I'm sure that he was over $100K, he'd been with NBCS Philly for something like 20 years.

We do have a website side to the boards though, but life has just been so busy that nothing's really been done with it other than get it set up.

I didn’t think about the tnt and abc deal blocking nba from being on nbc major network.

i had league pass before and it didn’t let me watch the sixers because I live in the philly market. Didn’t make sense to me, maybe it was a glitch, but I cancelled it and never went back.

So I guess my beef is just with the nba. IMO part of why the nfl is so big is because it’s on basic cable. I really think the nba could thrive with being on abc/nbc/cbs and change the schedule to be more spring/summer time.

Well, three of those four guys do a pretty good job.

I don't know what the deal is with the sixers when I got league pass on Directtv they still wouldn't let me watch the sixers. Not even if it was on a major network. Same deal with the Phillies. Maybe with Comcast being centered in Philadelphia only they have the rights to show sixers and Phillies through Comcast related networks such as nbc Philadelphia?? I'm not sure it was always odd to me.

I guess with the NBA and MLB they have to many games and they can't tie up other shows on those channels just for those 2 sports. During baseball and basketball season there is games every single day. Where with football you are tying up 3 networks for 1 day?

Unfortunately I just signed up with Comcast because I'm sick of the live streaming services like fubotv youtubetv and what not they are always dropping channels you want and picking up channels you don't. Plus they are driving up their prices as well. So I said the hell with it and went with the devil lol.

Even if they did one game a week it would help boost ratings imo.

It's a possibility. Towards the end of the season they play 2 games on ABC on Sundays. That's usually when the seeding for the playoffs starts. So they do that much

Only thing I remember about D Gunn was his website was filled with viruses.

Sounds like he’s going to launch his own podcast or web news....which will be better because he can write and do what he wants not what some Corp news wants him to.  His arm won’t be twisted to go get some slam piece on the eagles FO or to cause a divide in locker rooms by leaking false reports of the coach and wentz having issues.  All that can be left for rueben frank who has no problem drinking the company Cool-aid

I guess that's why Frank has survived so far. I imagine he's hoping that Titanic he's aboard really is unsinkable.

NBC Sports Philadelphia is nearly dead. They had what could have been a great thing, then mismanaged the whole thing.

I came across what i think is a pretty good article on the rise and fall of CSN Philadelphia. It's too long to copy the whole thing here.

The rise and demise of Comcast SportsNet as told by those who worked there and loved it best

Updated Aug 10, 9:33 PM; Posted Aug 09, 6:00 AM

Many are never so lucky to have a job and a place with co-workers who feel like family. Where merely walking through the front door and greeting the security guard is a delight. Where each day is a little different and surprising, like the twists and turns of a good book.

If you have this, you never feel the dread of "going to work.”

For a good long run, that’s what it was like at Comcast SportsNet. The Philadelphia-based all-sports cable channel, offices and studios, housed in the arena just built to replace the old Spectrum, was built from scratch in 1997.

Good thing they cleared space on the network for this valuable information

Yes that's all that is on there now is infomercials throughout the entire day. But hey they don't have to pay anybody for that.
