EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Maybe not talked about as much.  If we play our starters and beat the Giants then that pick for NYG could turn into #1 overall which could turn their whole franchise around.  We sit everyone and Giants win then that pick could be number 5-9.  You know teams just love to give up a sh!t ton of picks to get to that #1 spot.

The idea was to rest Pickett this week and give his ribs a week to heal, in case he's needed for the playoffs.  Why play a guy who we know is currently injured in a game that doesn't matter... AND they are already planning to rest starters?   Suit up McKee and Book (since Book is already on the 53) and let Pickett's ribs heal a little more.  Hopefully they don't need him, but more importantly, with him already banged up, the likelihood of needing to turn to McKee rises sharply, and giving him more reps can only be a benefit down the road.

I think that is likely the plan but I do wonder if they go with Pickett as the emergency QB or roll the dice with Mann in that roll. My suspicion is we see Pickett in pads.  I think they will have some starters in pads as a precaution.

Just saying in order for the giants to move up they’d need New England, titans and Cleveland all to lose. Cleveland is unlikely as the ravens win they clinch the afc north. New England has Buffalo and titans have the Texans. Both the Texans or Buffalo don’t have anything to play for.

We have 45 dressed + Pickett (probably). So, with 3 PS call ups… is that 10-11 starters in street clothes with the remainder in reserve?

As long as those who wanted them to go for the record were okay with the potential scenario of someone getting hurt and missing most of next season as well (Sydney Jones from last year), then you’re allowed to have that opinion. If you’re not and would be calling for Nick’s job if they start off 2-5 next year missing a key contributor because they lost him in a meaningless week 18 game, then you’re not allowed to have it both ways.

"But anyone can get hurt at any time”. Correct. But it’s unexplainable when it happens in a meaningless game.

Feel like the pro bowl should have 4 tackles instead of 3. Do 2 LT & 2 RT.

Mailata deserves a nod for sure, but I can’t argue him being certainly better than Wirfs/Sewell/Lane.

I do think Q got snubbed

Mailata is the highest graded player in the NFL. He might be All-Pro.  And no Pro Bowl? Lol

I think the whole draft position thing is so overrated. Say the Bears took mahomes instead of Trubisky, yeah he’s definitely better but I can’t see that he’d be nearly as good without Reid and in a clusterfudge of an organization.

Sure if there’s an Andrew Luck, that will turn things around, but there’s not a QB like that this year.

And even if there’s a can’t miss pass rusher, LT, or WR… They alone will not be franchise changing. Ask Myles Garrett and Joe Thomas

The irony is that the same people that say the record is meaningless and this is a meaningless game are the same ones buying and wearing NFC East division champs shirts and hats - talk about meaningless? lolololol

This division championship will be forgotten by next season - while the record, on the other hand, is basically timeless.

I’ve never met or seen anyone in my life who’s bought a division champs hat or t shirt. In fact, I don’t even know if stores sell them. These people don’t exist. At best you’ll get an NFC champ t shirt and hat, but I think most people are waiting for the Super Bowl ones.

I think they could absolutely use Pickett as the emergency QB.  No reason not to.   He could play and if this was a playoff game, and Hurts was unavailable, I bet he would.  I don't see a reason not to use Pickett as the 3rd stringer, especially as it doesn't count against the 46 man roster for the game.

Mitchell not in the pro bowl? Seriously?

Popularity contest.

Once the Birds lost the #1 Seed race to The Lions and Minny, Week 18 became our Bye Week. Also the Eagles Bye was all the way back in week 5.  So it's been 12 straight weeks of Football.   Remember during the Winning Streak, the Eagles rested starters in several 4th Quarters.   I believe Saquon should have eclipse the record already honestly.  But 2005 Rushing yards on your 1st year with a new team is unbelievable.  I want Saquon to get the record but I fully understand giving everyone a rest before having to play 4 Playoff games to win the Super Bowl. This will be the Eagles longest Road to the Super Bowl as all previous 13 Wins teams had the bye week.  I knew Jalen wasn't playing wither cleared or not, there is no point at this point.   Just play the game like preseason and get ready for the playoffs.  It will be Greenbay or Washington.   So Rematch of Brazil with the Pack or Washington a 3rd time.

I don’t think Barkley has a great set of hands himself.  Barkley is along AP’s line of freakiness but has (not quite) moves and elusiveness like Sanders.

To nitpick, not sure I understand the difference between versatility and all around.  Lot of overlap there.  I’d say Faulk is the best receiving RB of all time and the most dangerous running routes.

An interesting topic.   I'd put Thurman Thomas and Larry Centers into the conversation.   Probably a nod to Keith Byars as well.  Byars was so good that he eventually moved to TE.

I complained about him being taken out last game. It was the wrong thing to do.

Nobody was thinking about this record back in that 1st Giants game. It was a long way away and no one was thinking it was a goal that could realistically be accomplished. That day was about his personal career high, and the franchise career high (which the team on the sidelines didnt seem to realize was in play).

They thought about super bowls from day 1. But nobody thinks they are going to break the single season rushing record. Again, demonstrating the rarity of the opportunity as compared to a yearly super bowl winner that someone is guaranteed to get.

Sirianni knew and talked about it on the sidelines with Barkley.   I was against taking him out at that time, because there was no way to know that he'd go on to break both later against the Rams.

Jurgens will definitely be seeing a new deal this offseason. Looking forward to having 3/5 of our OL signed long term.

Hopefully Steen can be the guy at RG going forward

Mailata and Q snubbed, they are alternates.

Everyone knows Pro Bowl is popularity contest and All Pro is more legit.

Happy for Baun making it, and Jurgens and Carter first timers. Replacing Kelce and Cox and making the Pro Bowl. Remember when people were concerned about how to replace Kelce?

This experience right here…after decades of failure getting to experience that had to be awesome. I know it was for me when the Texas Rangers finally won the series year before last. I legit cried thinking of all the games I watched with my deceased mom and grand parents who were such huge fans and didn’t get to see it.

They got to see Nolan pitch.  There is joy in the game without a championship ring.

There was a locker room full of them last week so they do exist.

I actually have one (don’t even remember the year) that was a gift that I wear as an undershirt from time to time.

Usually only if there's a stud worth that.   I don't think this is a year for a windfall in a trade for #1.

Mailata will get to laugh at the snub once he makes All-Pro.

Idk... Tomorrow is not guaranteed.  Any player can get hurt at any time.  On or off the field.  Eagles could be 1 and done.  Play for the now.  I don't agree with the decision.  Go for immortality.

I'm kind of in this mindset. Saquon sits out week 18, misses the record by 100 yards and then on 1st play of the WC, he gets hurt and misses the rest of the playoffs. So you saved him for a game, missed the record and still don't have him. Worth it? Injuries can happen at any given time. I understand that you can't get hurt if you don't play, but at the same time you can get hurt during practice too.

I

Mitchell not making the pro bowl shouldn’t be a surprise. He doesn’t have any splash plays and he’s been a "so good you never hear his name called” CB. That doesn’t translate well for a rookie to a national audience.

46 dress + the 3rd QB.   And I think 2 PS is the limit for a given week.

Idk if people were concerned about replacing Kelce, maybe ones that weren’t familiar with Jurgens & why he was drafted.

But it was a valid question in the offseason if Jurgens would be capable of being the starting center going forward & it was a valid concern in how the overall OL would perform when their HOF center retires
