He has missed one game

Sweat is a weird one to project. On the surface, you'd think he's gone because the Eagles shopped him, made him take a pay cut and he'll be one of the best EDGE FA's in 2025 that's still reasonably young.

But, with how much of a disaster Huff has been and with Graham's future up in the air, I have to wonder if Howie gives him a "sorry" deal and extends him for 2-3 years.

I also wonder how much his knee issues will depress his price on the open market. Clearly there were no takers for him this past offseason, and now he's a year older with more wear and tear. Yeah, he's finishing better this year, but still hard to see a more robust market for him this offseason than last offseason.

He may be a guy who will be a mercenary on a series of 1 year deals.

Dinged a lot.

EDGE will definitely be the biggest priority for the Eagles in the offseason. I suspect OT or EDGE will be the first round pick as well. Howie is jonesing to draft one given he went secondary in 2024.

I don't think it's going to happen, I think the birds have flown on this, but Howie bringing back Reddick on some cheap deal would be such a Howie flex move. Howie refusing to pay him, Reddick wanting out, then getting him back cheap after his value crashes would be the ultimate Howie flex.

I get the sentiment there but I’m not sure Ringo is going to be a full time starter in the league? Perhaps a solid back up. And Steen hasn’t shown as much as Becton so that’s a really hard decision to make.

Steen's been fine filling in for Becton, Becton is a road grader for a run game but in pass protection the gap is tiny and probably non existent if Steen got consistent first team reps and snaps.

The only advantage Becton has is that he's a better size for NFL tackle to potentially replace Lane when the time comes, but he was so vehemently against playing RT in New York I wonder how attractive that is for him.

Please be real...

Wow. I knew Goedert was a much better blocker than Calcaterra, but...wow.

You do understand....that EVERY WEEK they were playing for the #1 seed and last week THEY NEEDED to win to lock in the #2 seed.  Whether they win or lose against the Giants, it has ZERO impact on their seeding. If the Eagles still had a shot at the #1 seed, I can almost guarantee that everyone would be playing.  But in a completely meaningless game, you do not risk it.

That was besides the point. Players can get injured any week

He's got 25.5 sacks for the last 3 years, he's considerably better when we have at least passable Linebackers, I'd bring him back, especially with Graham hanging them up.

Put it this way he's got 8.5 sacks this year and that's missing 2 games (assuming he sits on Sunday), we'd be lucky to replace that with a pick in the late 20's.

And?

Most if not all players are dinged up. It's a physical sport especially for offensive lineman who can get rolled up on a lot. Played 16 games last year and 15 this year.

I get why McMahon signed with the Rams, but at the same time there is Stout and then every other OL coach. If he wanted a long NFL career spending a year or two under the coach that turned a guy with similar skills into a HOF would have been good for him. He is making more money and on a good team, though.

I think he would make about $225k on the practice squad compared to about $800k on his rookie deal.  There is no way he should forego that kind of difference in pay.

I can believe it, Calcaterra is a disaster at blocking, I'm amazed he sees the field so often, Uzomah must block like Casper the friendly ghost.

Clearly there is divided opinion on playing for the record vs resting/mitigate injury risk. Valid points on both sides of the argument.

But since the decision is made, it is what it is now. Every argument has been repeated over and over.

Moving on to the playoffs.

Besides the better check - I figured McMahon has a clearer route to playing time in LA. Jurgens could be a fixture for the next decade.

Probowl selections become more of a joke each season.  I have t cared about the PB for a very long time

Couple more points on the Barkley thing.

1. To the people saying a player can get hurt in any game, and he could get hurt in the playoffs -- it's about risk/reward. Every game other than this one had meaning -- we needed the 13 wins to lock up the division and the 2 seed. If we could get the 1 seed by winning this game, then of course they play. This game is ALL risk for no reward for the team. Yes, Barkley could get a record, but nothing that happens Sunday impacts the 2024/2025 Eagles in any way. So you're taking injury risk for no benefit for the team. Of course he can get hurt in a playoff game, but if you lose that, your season is over. It's not at all the same.

2. Everyone is assuming that if he plays, he will get it. With Tanner McKee at QB, the Giants will stack the box. We saw how it went against the Commanders once Jalen was out. Yes, he ran all over the Cowboys in the 2nd half, but they seemed to quit. The disaster scenario is a significant injury, but there's also the scenario where everyone plays, we forego rest and recovery, and he doesn't get the record. We end on a down note and go into the playoffs gassed. This idea that we HAVE to win the Super Bowl to justify this assumes he would definitely get 101 yards, which isn't a walk in the park.

Just remember, if idiots like Steven A. Smith and Dan Orlovosky say we are doing the wrong thing, we are likely doing the right thing.

Exactly.  There is a reasonable list of somewhat older edges playing at a nice level…but no one spectacular and many of them peaked at higher levels than Sweat, so they had a bit more room to decline.

The way the Reddick thing played out isn’t going to help edges looking for a big third deal.

Just like Reddick, I like Sweat.  Would rather have him here than not, but I’d value Bechton, Baun, and Milton Williams higher.

Also forgot to add Jordan Davis is eligible for a new deal. And while I know opinions vary on him, I’m keen on him getting an extension too depending on the price. Nakobe Dean as well. So many mouths to feed, gotta make decisions.

Jordan Davis's next contract is a tricky one. Yes, he makes an impact on the run game when he's in. The problem is he's playing 37% of the snaps. Compare that to Milton Williams who's playing 50% of the snaps and that's increasing every year.

What do you pay a guy who plays well under 50% of the snaps, roughly 22 snaps a game? Who's contract do you even compare him to?

The other question folks have is how much of Milton Williams production can be linked to Jalen Carter? I'm sure there's some connection between the two, but at the same time, Williams is taking advantage of the opportunity. Who's to say next man up will do the same?

Going to be some tough decisions being made with extensions.

Kelce didn't go until his fourth.

Keep picking OL on day two and let Stout turn them into stars.

Shady this morning was upset because of the sitting Saquon decision.  His argument was he’d never has as many all pros on his line again.  Stout breeds APs, or close enough to APs, routinely

Hell…I could see the Commanders snagging Steichen as OC if he’s fired in Indy.  There’s a chance he gets another HC gig.  He was dealt a bad hand in Indy

Other things to consider…

Dean is coming on, but Trot Jr. is really similar as a prospect. Might be some tough decisions down the road, especially if Baun gets the bag.

With Booker and Ojomo ascending, can Howie move off Milton a la Javon Hargrave?

Agree with your thought process here.

-Nakobe Dean has been a pleasant surprise this year. However, like you said, Trotter is a very similar prospect. Trotter and Burks filled in nicely last week as well.

-Milton Williams is finally giving the team exactly what he was drafted for. He lived in the backfield at LA Tech. He was a disrupter. Now that he's next to Carter, he's getting a chance to thrive. I like Ojomo a lot too, but I like him more as a guy you move all over the DL. He was a steady player at Texas and he's proving to be the same here. I don't think he can be the force Milton Williams has shown to be. Booker is built in the same fashion, but he's a DT4 prospect in the long run.

Baun and Williams are the must re-sign players IMO. Josh Sweat is making a push to be a must have as well.

With JD I definitely want to see what he does on the turn, but do you lock into the option this Spring to see what happens on the river.

Ideally, Howie gets a modest extension completed based on what his role is now and if JD has an epiphany then we reap the benefits.
