Jordan Davis's next contract is a tricky one. Yes, he makes an impact on the run game when he's in. The problem is he's playing 37% of the snaps. Compare that to Milton Williams who's playing 50% of the snaps and that's increasing every year.

What do you pay a guy who plays well under 50% of the snaps, roughly 22 snaps a game? Who's contract do you even compare him to?

The other question folks have is how much of Milton Williams production can be linked to Jalen Carter? I'm sure there's some connection between the two, but at the same time, Williams is taking advantage of the opportunity. Who's to say next man up will do the same?

Going to be some tough decisions being made with extensions.

I kind of feel like Jordan Davis will be a guy where they pick up his 5th year option (should be around $12mm since he never made a pro bowl or played 75% of snaps) and maybe talk about a reasonable extension. But Cam will be the priority from the 2022 class, and then they have to make a call on Dean if they extend or let him play it out. One of the things I've asked in the past -- how much do Dean and Davis' presence impact Carter? You have to take that into account.

Hell…I could see the Commanders snagging Steichen as OC if he’s fired in Indy.  There’s a chance he gets another HC gig.  He was dealt a bad hand in Indy

Whoever took the decision to draft Anthony Richardson at 4 should absolutely be fired, that was always a nonsense pick, his mechanics and footwork scream day 3 project pick, there's no way he should have been within light years of a top 5 pick.

Other things to consider…

Dean is coming on, but Trot Jr. is really similar as a prospect. Might be some tough decisions down the road, especially if Baun gets the bag.

With Booker and Ojomo ascending, can Howie move off Milton a la Javon Hargrave?

And Baun will be getting that fat bag. Howie does not give out fat bags to off the ball linebackers, hopefully he finally see's/understands the benefit of a quality off the ball LB and Vic is pounding the damn table for him too. It's a shame it took this long for him to see what a good LB does for your defense so just extend Baun and move forward. But we cannot have Howie be stubborn with this otherwise we will fall back into the pack on defense.

That's cute. Maybe he wants to sign here, but there's no reason at all to sign him. The Eagles RB3 got his first carries in a blowout last week. RB depth is the last thing they need right now.

He has missed one game

He does have an injury history and has gotten dinged this year, yes he hasn't missed much time for us but there is a history. I would like him back but it is something to consider when discussing off-season moves, we do not have all that much cap available to pay everyone plus an outsider or two. I am assuming Becton will get a decent payday/extension as well. I have Baun as the number one priority, Williams would be only slightly behind him. Then I look at Becton.

Part of me would be curious to see what he looked like behind this line, but that curiosity wouldn’t last that long

Baun Beckton priority 1

IMO the Colts are one of the worst organizations in football; I could see them headed for 10 years of futility much more likely than winning another championship anytime in the future.

Everyone knows WR3 will be the highest priority next season.

This is going to be a back and forth until FA in March, but as much as I love Becton's story and what he brings to the table, Steen is next man up. He's filled in nicely when needed. It's going to be interesting for sure. Both Baun and Becton are going to get that bag.

Baun is more important to the defense than Becton is to the OL and the drop off from Baun to Burks/Trotter is much larger than the drop off from Becton to Steen. I know the question isn't Baun or Becton, but I think one of the two walk based on potential contract.

I want Bechton back, but he gets dinged a LOT.  Just something to consider.

He had one major injury in his 2nd year. He has been fine this season with the one injury being the concussion. I am not sure that injuries are going to factor into any kind of discount. On the other hand, it's going to be hard to keep him if he doesn't want to stay at some sort of discount.  He's 26 next season. Teams are going to look at him and think he's potentially a good starting OT.  Even if he's just a OG, Cosmi got 4 years and $74 million.  Landon's deal was 4 years and $84 million.  I think those are the type of numbers he would get on the open market.  There were no big FA OT signings in 2024 but Jawaan Taylor got $80 million over 4 years in 2023.   Maybe they could get him for 4 years and $60 million.  I am just not sure why he would take less than that kind of deal to stay.  If they offer that deal to him, it likely means we are not re-signing one or more of Baun, CJGJ, Sweat, Isaiah Rodgers  or Milton Williams.   I am not sure I would priortize keeping him over Sweat and Williams.  I would rather have Becton combined with one or 2 of those players rather than not keeping him and keeping all of the others.  I tend to think Williams will be gone because of the production they have gotten from Ojomo and that they will likely want to keep Davis.

Do we need a back up Center?

I don’t think Barkley has a great set of hands himself.  Barkley is along AP’s line of freakiness but has (not quite) moves and elusiveness like Sanders.

To nitpick, not sure I understand the difference between versatility and all around.  Lot of overlap there.  I’d say Faulk is the best receiving RB of all time and the most dangerous running routes.

Well you are nitpicking Saquon’s comments, not mine.  Having watched all five of those backs plus all of the other backs mentioned, including Brown, I have to say I pretty much understand what Barkley said with his comments. Faulk was as good of a receiver as he was as a running back.  When he lined up wide, he was basically running receiver routes.  Payton was pure running back but anything you could ask of a RB, he did and he did well.  Of the backs listed and mentioned, none are Payton’s equal at pass pro.

You have been here long enough to recall that I was an Oilers fan in my youth.  I was sitting in the Adams Petroleum building (there may have been ten of us fans as the draft back then wasn’t what it is today) when Earl was drafted. I was chatting with my best friend and our neighbor, Greg Bigham the starting MIKE and was introduced to one of my biggest idols in the game by Greg, Elvin Bethea.  Also met Elvin’s position coach, some guy named Wade.

So I know a bit about Earl.  Met him a number of times, very humble, like Barkley.  But Earl was the second coming of Brown.  That combo of size and power.  Both had great vision and burst and me bounced off of them. But not half the receiver that Barkley is.

But things need perspective.  Big E was 6’2” and 260 lbs and consider a big DE.  Greg was 6’2” and 227 and a MIKE.  Sanders, Brown and Campbell were playing against smaller defenses back then.  Heck, the lines were smaller too. All Pro Mike Munchak was a 270ish G.  The question on Bruce Matthews was if he was too heavy at 305.

Greg’s side hustle, because back then players had other jobs, was the #54 Car Wash a few blocks from my parents’ house.  (Somewhere in this house is a car wash token from Greg’s place.  Earl’s btw was Earl Campbell Construction Company.  We insured them and I worked a couple of claims for his company when I was a baby claim adjuster a few years later.  About that same time, a friend of mine was dating one of Bum’s daughters.  Houston was a booming city but still had a small town feel to it.  (My father in law played against a Bum coached team in HS - Nederland.  Bum later coached at his alma mater, Port Neches-Groves.)

Thing I liked about Earl, no splashy end zone celebration, he would respectfully just toss the ball to the ref.  Now Earl is about my age.  Had a friend that played against him in HS.  Earl was from Tyler, rose capital of Texas, hence why they called him the Tyler rose.  My friend played for Marshall.  Said Earl was a beast in HS.  Feared as a LB too.  Earl was every bit a mild mannered country kid.  Of course, growing up black in East Texas in the 1960s and seventies wasn’t easy.  There were still plenty of sundown towns.  I always wondered if Earl was really that soft spoken or if it was a reflection of where he grew up.

Everyone wants Becton back but barely anyone knows how to spell his name.

A true Philadelphian player, through and through.

I think he would make about $225k on the practice squad compared to about $800k on his rookie deal.  There is no way he should forego that kind of difference in pay.

I get that and he would have been blocked here, but at the same time learning under Stout how to play the position with similar skills/size to someone he turned into a HOF would be a consideration as well for a year or two.

May have been impacted by his stint on IR.  If a player is on IR, they cannot be voted for.

The only thing they will talk about is if another team will win it continuing "the streak” - which is anything but some sort of "all time record”

You should know better.

You just fell into the trap of the "affirm the consequent” logical fallacy.  When you look in a mirror, you will see bias looking back at you.

He’s first alternate, so he got votes. Just a lot of guys in his way in the NFC.
