EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

There's also the angle that I don't think Sirianni's job is 100% safe if they get bounced in the WC round. Especially if the offense blows and he mismanaged the clock in a critical spot or whatever. Having key guys miss the game because they get banged up in a meaningless game could directly affect his job status.

I think the decision ultimately came from Howie, and I think they're doing right by Sirianni if that's the case, because it would be much more difficult to evaluate him if they were to get bounced in the WC round because Barkley wasn't available. They could always use that excuse. Especially since they aren't going to be playing some 7-10 team.

He is for sure safe.

Someone earlier argued that Riggs should start in place of Rodgers.  That is an interesting take.

Among Ringo Rodgers and Riggs, who would you play inside?

I don't think Rodgers has played inside at all has he? I was all about the young CB movement for 2025 and beyond and moving on from Darius Slay, but has he earned himself another year? Do the Eagles cut ties one year early before his body completely breaks down? He's missed time in how many games this year?

For the Giants game, I'd imagine Mitchell and Slay won't even dress. I'd assume DeJean won't play, although I'm even intrigued to see him play some outside CB, but they can't risk him at all. He's been a key cog in the success of the defense.

Rodgers is CB1. Ringo and Ricks rotate CB2/slot

Brown and McCollum are the safeties. Maybe Maddox plays where needed.

They have Andre Sam, Mekhi Garner, Tariq Castro-Fields, Parry Nickerson and AJ Woods on the PS. Is it worth calling any of them up for live action? I don't think so because they will need Brett Toth and Charles Harris on the OL/DL to eat snaps.

I want to see Ringo on Nabers. Give him a challenge. Let him learn.

I think with Hurts they probably don't feel a need to have him complete the protocol knowing that he wasn't going to play this week.  Why do it now when you can bring him through the last practice phases next week and make GB or WAS wonder if he's going to get through?

He’s safe without a throw.

I doubt he'd be getting any reps even if he were practicing, so no reason to push it at all. Let McKee get ready to play.

I don't think he is. Forget who it was but one of the beat guys was on the air talking about it recently too. He probably wouldn't be fired, but I don't think it's a lock if they have an ugly loss in the WC round. Even Berman today was saying that Sirianni will be and was always going to be evaluated this season based on playoff success. And you know Lurie would be foaming at the mouth to get Ben Johnson if he had reason to doubt Sirianni in the playoffs.

Sorry, he's not an NFL QB. He has fantastic speed and can run the ball. I think this is a true case of he might be better at a different position.

I posted this before, but the defense should be:

DT: Ojomo, Booker and elevate Gabe Hall. Davis, Carter and Williams sit down

Edge: Huff, Hunt and elevate Harris. Nolan and Sweat sit.

LB: Burks and Trotter go all game, Dean and Baun sit

Outside CB: Ringo and Ricks

Slot CB: Maddox

Safety: McCollum and Brown

I agree with all of this except sitting Davis.  His snap count is low enough that I play him.

I don't have ESPN+ but Fowler put something out today that Sirianni could be in trouble with an early round exit

and he chose the Bucs. Lol

Trust me I’d like to keep Becton, but it sort of feels like when we lost Seumalo a couple years ago. I just think there’s players that are higher priority to bring back. I have thought about the idea of Becton potentially trying out at RT to replace Lane one day, have wondered the same about Steen. Agreed though, Howie’s got it under control.

The delta between Seumalo and Benton is substantial at Guard … plus Benton has excellent potential as the next RT after Lane retires.

Effectively an apples and oranges comparison … not completely apples and oranges, but effectively so.

Anthony Richardson tricked a team and will happen again.

No way - he's too important as a run stuffer. He shouldn't touch the field. Lineman can get rolled up on easily.

There is no obvious replacement for Davis on this roster -- no other real nose tackle.

Imagine Barkley too. I’m fully in the rest everyone camp but imagine how sick Barkley would be if they don’t win a playoff game he didn’t get a chance at the record vs his old team.

Then give a short term deal to Rodgers. Point is half the D is young and on rookie or dirt cheap deals. It's a lot easier to find money for Baun then it is Becton.

With Becton for me, it boils down to you are paying 3 out of the 5 OL at top of the market deals. Jurgens will undoubtedly be the 4th, probably this offseason. You can't pay every guy on the OL, especially when you take into account the QB, WR1 at $30M+, WR2 at $25M+ as well as Barkley and Goedert who are also up there for their respective positions. Plus you have the x-factor in Stoutland. He can either coach Steen up, find a new project or work his magic on a Keegan or a new draft pick. It might be a step down from Becton, but he's a luxury that's hard to afford. If he's willing to sign for dirt cheap that changes things obviously.

One possible solution for Becton is sign him to an affordable contact with lots of incentives for performance either at Guard or Tackle.

Teams that played last week have gotten out to fast starts. ND 1st quarter might be the bet

So Shipley was a LP with his concussion but Hurts was a NP. Wonder if Eagles are playing games at this point

That is my belief … playing games.

I’m not really a fan of him but I think he’s safe. Would prefer we had a HC that was a great play caller since we’ll likely lose our OC again. Don’t see how Nick could get fired unless something extremely drastic happened

You just fell into the trap of the "affirm the consequent” logical fallacy.  When you look in a mirror, you will see bias looking back at you.

No just no

There are still UGA defenders I'd love to see this team draft.

Tarron Jackson era is over. SIgned with the Niners PS.
