The NFL should do what it can to eliminate QB Hits as a relevant statistic.

Defenders know that it is used to determine effectiveness, so they look to get in a QB hit whenever possible.

This is a selfish behavior that leads to unnecessary roughness penalties that hurt their own team and addition injury risk to the quarterback.

How would you keep other teams from tracking it?

Just because the NFL stops tracking it, doesn't mean coaches stop paying attention to it. You always hear coaches tell them to make your presence felt and QB hits his a way to do that, regardless if its tracked or not.

QBs are already afforded far more protection than any other position. If you don't want your QB to be hit, don't put them in that position. Quick throws, or don't run your QB if you don't want them hit like any other player.

Create a QB Sack / QB Hit ratio.

Defenders would be penalized for gathering useless hits on the QB.  Players continuously take their 'legal' shot on the QB even after the ball is clearly out of his hands.

But why are we needing to protect the QB more? Are we going to add another subjective element as to what constitutes a "useless" hit. Useless from who's perspective?

Is it actually the hit statistic that's the issue?  Could it be some owners lack of investment in the OL to protect the QB? There's also bad officiating in the case of Pickett last week.

If anything refs could call it tighter on the field than they already do and would solve a lot of the problem.

Private equity/NFL:  In my industry (Senior Living) PE, along with REITs have taken over.  Some good, but mostly poor results.  Frequently the REIT owns the physical plant, the PE more on the operations end.  I've now been a part of 3 Senior Living organizations that have PE investments.  Each time the the rent and care plan costs are increased while staff, budgets for food and Resident entertainment, plant maintenance, transportation are decreased.  I won't get into how the funding is structured,  i.e. the PE isn't using its investors money to fund the majority of the investment, but I know what matters more than anything else: make their investors money at astonishingly high return rates.

PE getting their mitts on the NFL is not an exciting prospect for me.  They can own 10% of a team.  If the profits are good it won't be long before that % increases. They will influence who the next commissioner is, will demand seats on the Executive Committee, and more.   Who wants Blackstone, Carlyle Group and other "activist" PE groups having any influence on team decision making?  It would be worse than Comcast owning the Flyers.

Rant over.

So who's up for today's exhibition game?

I'm looking forward to seeing some young players get a chance to play. Like McKee.

I remember some fans getting really upset at Doug for tanking that game.

Happy that he is one a few that ran for 2,000 and is getting a chance to recharge as we make a run at the Super Bowl.

His legacy won't be diminished by sitting out today's game.

Dallas starting Trey Lance today so will neat to beat Wash without Rush. Lance blows, but maybe he adds an element Wash isn't ready for.

It’ll be funny when Gainwell has 125 rushing yards in the third quarter

Don't even think he'll play it'll be the Shipley Show.

Tanner Time and the Shipley Show.

Don't watch college ball but I'm curious on if Hurts talked in quotes back then too. Anyone know?

I really hope they replace Gainwell with Skattebo or Monangai next year. Every once in a while Gainwell breaks a tackle or runs hard and we get so excited to see him actually do something. Those guys do it on every run. Theyll help soften up a defense for Barkley, and will be real threats to run down near the goal line.

I'm excited to see a handful of young players. Assuming McKee is a real deal NFL QB and he has time in the pocket, Smith and Wilson should get quality looks at WR, unlike the 4th quarter of a preseason game. Can Will Shipley break one? Does Trevor Keegan have what it takes at OG? I still think he's a plug and play starter at some point.

On defense, Ringo, Ricks, Brown, Trotter and Hunt. We've seen Hunt as a rotational rush end. Can he play meaningful snaps?

Is Becton going to be starting RT today?

Do we think Dotson starts on the outside?

Will DeJean rest or start on the outside?

I’m not sure we would have lost the tiebreaker to Minnesota, but it is moot regardless … so I will mute myself on that subject from now on.

We would definitely have lost the tiebreak, so it's silly to even discuss.

Duh, I totally forgot about Dotson too. I'd imagine Dotson and Wilson on the outside with Smith in the slot.

I hope DeJean rests. No need to put him out there. They have CB depth to eat the snaps.

Lol

As much as I hated the Dotson trade, I hope he has a big day today. He's not that good, but he's been a rock solid team guy (at least publicly) all year.

Also, maybe Becton at RT, but I can see the right side being Keegan at RG, Kinnard at RT.

Minnesota would be nuts to trade him and not extend him. Or some team would have to offer a crazy package
