EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Featured Replies

Crazy thing in the NFC this year is how both teams in the NFC North get screwed.  The loser is stuck with the No. 5 seed, and yes, the winner gets the bye, but the winner is probably stuck going against the No. 5 seed again in the Division Round.  In other words, whoever wins, there's a really good chance the team that draws no. 1 and gets the bye is going to have to face the team with the second best record in the Conference in the Divisional Round.

If the Eagles are fortunate enough to win their wild card game, they probably draw the Rams or Bucs.  Only way the NFC North winner doesn't draw the NFC North second place team is if that team loses in the WC, or if the remaining three divisional champs lose their WC games.

Rams lead.

Since the New EMB has been in existence, we've now gone through 5 full regular seasons.

The Eagles overall regular season record in that span: 52-31-1

Only one losing season, 2020 (Doug's final) and that was 4-11-1, the final 16 game season.

I would have to think the new EMB has something to do with the team's success during that span.

Has an absolute cannon of an arm but accuracy is just meh.

I prefer him dominating with his arm. A good QB doesnt need to run. They are supposed to throw.

That's just in your perfect world. I don't know what football will look like in 100 years, but 100 years ago, passing wasn't part of the job. They pretty much started off as blockers until the rules allowed them to run too. Then even after the forward pass became a thing, they still either ran, pitched or handed off the ball, or threw it. It just depends on the offensive system and the current league rules. But running QBs are QBs --- they just aren't the kind you like in your ideal offense. Today's NFL dual threat QBs are also getting better at passing (on average) compared to  those in the past. The game is evolving. You are stagnant. That's okay. They still deliver newspapers and make flip phones for people that hate change.

I really hope they replace Gainwell with Skattebo or Monangai next year. Every once in a while Gainwell breaks a tackle or runs hard and we get so excited to see him actually do something. Those guys do it on every run. Theyll help soften up a defense for Barkley, and will be real threats to run down near the goal line.

Do they pass protect as well as Gainwell?  A lot of the time he is in, he is in pass protection.   Frankly, Shipley is his replacement.  They typically draft for that role the season before the existing player’s contract is up.   I believe that Trot2 may well have been drafted as Burks’ replacement back when they were probably anticipating a Burks/Baun battle at ILB with Burks seemingly the most likely to win the battle (as was likely the status at the time of the draft). If they can retain Baun (and possibly Burks too) then Trot2 becomes the potential Dean replacement.

What was the verdict on Dotson?

Still a bad receiver?  Or a decent receiver that Hurts won't throw the ball to?

Should have had a steve breaston-like #3 WR type of year with an actual QB on this team.

Great catch. Come on Rams!

Seattle wins when we don't want them to. Bucs in round two it is. Nice pass idiot

Would qualify as Jalen Hurts 4th best passing game of the year.

And you know Hurts would never have these numbers with the team McKee played with today. Its a huge deal if Hurts is missing just 1 starter from the passing game.

NFL script writers could have a Stafford vs. lions wild card matchup.

There wasn't a TE on the Cardinals that Breaston had to compete with for targets.

Keep trying.

Surprised mcvay actually went for it on 4th down with how he is. add on geno is likely out so probably could’ve gotten 3 stops and the ball back.

I love the added threat of a QB taking off and running. But thats about the last thing Id ever think about saying McKee needs to learn right now. Id be thrilled to see him clean up some accuracy on the roll outs, and make a few better decisions. Arm was solid, but that can improve some too. And when he is as good as he looks like he could be, I still wont be thinking about him running because he proved how effective he can be finding the outlets and actually gaining yards that way.
