EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I think DeJean would be a really good outside CB.

So what’s more valuable - a really good CB or an elite NB?

I think he offers a competitive advantage at NB. The size, physicality, AND coverage combo is pretty rare. Huge asset against the run in nickel.

Kinda view NB like I view RB. Not hard to find a decent one, quite hard to find a great one.

Also as evidence think about the damage that quick completions over the middle have wrought in past seasons.  Those plays had a close to 90% completion percentage and always moved the chains.  That era has come to an end this season. Why would we want to regress?

Had a feeling after reading some rumors on Twitter that the late Sunday game might be it. I’m still puzzled at the commanders/bucs in SNF

Could have been a combination of weather (not going to snow in Tampa and it will be warmer than 20 degrees at night) and the fact that they’re two of the "hotter” teams going into the playoffs (no pun intended)

Yep. It looked like Bradley was about to be Eagles coach until Chip changed his mind. I remember they had helicopters over Luries mansion the whole time he was interviewing there lol.

I never knew about the helicopters.  That’s hilarious.

At this stage, I think Washington would give us a harder time than Tampa.  (And I still like our chances against Washington at home - revenge/respect factor alone should be enough to get a W)

That said, Tampa is a different team without Godwin and so is our defense at this point - and we would have Tampa at home with both AJ, DeVonta and a healthy O-Line.  It wouldn’t be anything close to what happened in Tampa earlier in the year

He has? Then why did his last 2 teams just let him walk without anyone else grabbing him to be the head coach?

Because of your stupid face demon boy!!

Have to admit Jerry killed this scene

I thought that scene was the best thing anyone associated with Cowboys has done since the late 1990s.

He had a bunch of Mamulas, but that is not good enough.

Disrespectful to Mamula…contrary to popular belief he was actually a good NFL player till injuries ruined his career.  Huff…sucks.

True, but keeping it simple they got DeJean and Hunt for 50 and 53.

I THINK they also got the Trotter pick when it all shook out.

Argh… Vic knew Van Ginkel and he wound up costing half as much. Not 100% 20/20 hindsight.

Mediocre works…he averaged what, 6 sacks a year?

Huff did nothing again yesterday, he has been so disappointing

Defense looked pretty good out there. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Mamula has the unfortunate notoriety as the guy the Eagles chose over Warren Sapp.  He was an ok player.  I'm not sure I'd go as high as good, but more than that, he never lived up to the hype he generated by his combine numbers.  He was the first ever workout warrior for the Combine... Lurie bought into it lock, stock and barrel, and the Eagles paid the price... both in trading UP for him and paying a premium, and in choosing him over Sapp.

It's always fun to look at this stuff.

Looks like the trade netted, Cooper DeJean and Ainias Smith from actual picks in the trade. They then used 78 and turned that in to 86 which became Jaylx Hunt and 132 which turned in to 164, 201 and a 2024 4th. They then used 164 and 201 to trade up for Trotter.

So the trade up to 40 brought them Cooper DeJean, Ainias Smith, Jaylx Hunt and Trotter Jr.

Here's the other end of things. The players drafted with every pick the Eagles traded away.

If it wasn’t for the "They took him over Sapp” comparisons, he would have (likely) been viewed more favorably by fans, imo.

You're right but Lynch still a pretty good team re/building track record

Good points. I don’t disagree. I don’t think either team can beat Philly in Philly. I just meant I hoped it was the Commanders because that’s the team I want to see the Eagles beat the most. HA

Why is that a knock on the GM?  Was it not the GM that went out and made the move to bring CMC to SF?   Lynch saw that he could be had, and envisioned what he could do in that offense?  Why wouldn't the GM get credit for that move?  It was obliviously a transformative move for the franchise.   That would be like using the decision to sign Barkley to be a strike against Howie.  It makes no sense.

The thing that sucks about the Mamula pick is that the Eagles fell for the workout hype and in doing so, passed up on 3 HOF players in Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks and Ty Law. Sapp had his "issues" but he's the guy they should have taken. I LOVED Derrick Brooks at FSU.

He was also picked between two incredibly successful pros in DE Kevin Carter (100+ sacks) and Joey Galloway (nearly 11,0000 yards 77 TDs).

Mamula was over drafted and then had his career cut short playing on the terrible Vet surface. 31 sacks in 77 games isn't bad at all when you look at it. Any other name besides Mike Mamula and I think we'd be happy with that.

We made up for it by drafting Carter.  The Universe is balanced.

It’s funny back then it was called a Mamula when you almost got a sack as a negative but now a pressure is something coveted. Ha He was born in the wrong era before analytics.
