So now AJ Brown has a bum knee and is out for the playoffs. Is that the consensus now? 🤡🤡🤡

Worst contract ever?

I'd say they will be about identical.  He's not going to be the face of a company like you are suggesting.  And certainly not for $10M.

Baun’s name recognition in Philadelphia is worlds above what it would be in any other city.  His face on WaWa billboards or TV ads is pretty easy to contemplate.  Robert Kraft had a well planned NIL revenue stream for Brady so he could have a lower Cap hit while still having the same total revenue.  Local companies support the Eagles much the same way the companies of college alumni provide NIL revenues for college athletes.

Ironically I just ate a Chinese fortune cookie for breakfast and the fortune was "Embrace the ride, the future is yours to create.”  Lurie has done an excellent job of consistently following (embracing) that advice.

Also $10 million over 4 years is only $2.5 million per year.  Perhaps someone who posts here can tell us how much advertising revenue $2.5 million per year amounts to.

I have no idea what you do for a living, but it has gotten you to this point and I'm guessing you are happy. But it would be interesting to see what you did if every 3 years, employers bid for your services via a 3 year contract. Would you be content with your current pay when there are some people offering you a whole lot more because they want you to work for them? Even if you didn't want to change jobs, wouldn't you use that as leverage negotiating your next contract?

I think it's easy for us to say how much money someone else needs (to live) when we make less than them. They only need what you make to live your life. But they are living their own lives, not yours.

For me personally, I wouldn't be haggling over $1-2 million when I've already got millions of dollars and I'm going to continue being paid millions of dollars. But I don't care about having four lambos, a 6,000 square foot house, and a yacht. I don't really want for anything (and we don't live a simple life- we travel, eat out, etc), and I'm not rich by any means, anyone can see my pay with a quick Google search. If i won the lottery tomorrow i can't imagine doing any more than paying off our cars (well my wife wants a new one) and our mortgage right away and then just waiting for the next travel opportunity.

I'm not saying these dudes need to live like a regular joe, but they can live their lifestyle on a $10m per year contract vs a $12m per year one. If we're talking about a UDFA or 7th round pick looking at their second contract, sure get every bit you can. But dudes on their 3rd contract, or first round picks looking for their second, already have millions of dollars.

But I digress, rich people do rich things that I'll never understand

Anyone else think that Hurts is going to be absolutely terrible and cost us the game?

No? just me?

"Not I” said the little red hen.

Once upon a time there was a little red hen who lived with her friends, the cow, the horse, and the cat.  In the springtime the flowers were blossoming, the leaves were appearing on the trees once more, and the farmers were busy planting their fields.  The little red hen was delighted to find some seeds of wheat and she hurried home to show them to her friends.

The little red hen said, "Who will help me plant the wheat?”

"Moooo.  Not I,” said the cow.

"Neigh.  Not I,” said the horse.

"Meow.  Not I,” said the kitty cat.

So the little red hen said, "Then I will plant the seeds of wheat all by myself.”  And so she planted the seeds of wheat.

In the summertime, the sun glowed bright and hot, the fields and gardens were growing and growing, and everywhere was green.  The wheat grew tall and golden in the sun, and the little red hen asked her friends, "Who will help me cut the wheat?”

"Moooo.  Not I,” said the cow.

"Neigh.  Not I,” said the horse.

"Meow.  Not I,” said the kitty cat.

So the little red hen said, "Then I will cut the wheat all by myself.”  And so she cut the stalks of wheat.

In the autumn, the days grew cooler, the leaves turned beautiful shades of red and orange, gold and brown, and the farmers were busy bringing in the harvest.  The little red hen asked her friends, "Who will help me take the wheat to the mill?”

"Moooo.  Not I,” said the cow.

"Neigh.  Not I,” said the horse.

"Meow.  Not I,” said the kitty cat.

So the little red hen said, "Then I will take the wheat to the mill all by myself.”  And so she took the wheat to the mill.  The miller ground the wheat into flour, and then the little red hen brought the big bags of flour back home.

In the winter the snow fell and the days were short and very cold.  The little red hen asked her friends, "Who will help me bake the bread?”

"Moooo.  Not I,” said the cow.

"Neigh.  Not I,” said the horse.

"Meow.  Not I,” said the kitty cat.

So the little red hen said, "Then I will bake the bread all by myself.”  And so she took the flour, mixed it and kneaded it and put it in the oven.  And while the bread was baking, it smelled wonderful!  The cow and the horse and the cat came running when they smelled that fresh bread.

The little red hen took the bread out of the oven and asked her friends, "Who will help me eat the bread?”

"Moooo.  I will!” said the cow.

"Neigh.  I will!” said the horse.

"Meow.  I will!” said the kitty cat.

But the little red hen said, "Oh, no, no, no!  I planted the seeds of wheat, I cut the wheat, I took the wheat to the mill and brought home the flour, and I baked the bread, all by myself.  Now I will eat the bread - all by myself!”  And so she did, and it was delicious!

We also got 3 straight all-pro level seasons from AJ Brown.

It is worth mentioning that the net worth of most pro athletes a few years after retirement is much lower than most of us fans realize.

Some of that comes from abysmal spending, but agents, taxes…and not having much of a revenue stream post retirement.  They’ve got just a few years to build a nest egg and that’s it.  And that’s while being surrounded people that pull you into exorbitant lifestyles.

I would be terrified of Hurts coming into this game with the time off.  He starts off slow in games, cant imagine how he will be with 3 weeks of rest.  Luckily, we have a rested Barkley to rescue us, like he has most of the season.

4 hours ago, HazletonEagle said:

I haven't felt that about this game in particular.  But the playoffs in general.  This team will go as far as Hurts allows.  He is the deciding factor.  The rest of the roster is good enough to beat anyone.  Hurts is the one potential limiting factor. The only weakness on the team.

I don’t see him as a weakness, but rather as a wild card.  We don’t know what we are going to get, and there is plenty of past evidence of both good Hurts and Bad Hurts as examples of the range of possibilities.

Yeah, I see this often from people. They think if they just had a big chunk of money they could retire and ride off into the sunset.

The fact is, investing isn’t easy, and trying to live off the yield of investments while not losing principal or having it eaten away by inflation is difficult. Very bright people from the best schools in the world struggle to manage money professionally, but somehow a pro athlete is going to be just fine passing on millions of dollars per year.

Seeing articles saying that Franklin pissed Freeman off during their press conference and that the ND players carried that anger out onto the field to help impose their will  Penn State physically dominated that game, their QB just sucked.

Correct.  ND had 15 yards rushing on 13 attempts in the first half... they weren't getting any push at all.

And had PSU just kept running the ball in the 4th quarter... they win that game.  ND was the beneficiary of two DBs slipping on their long TD pass and Allar deciding that he wanted to play like it was his first game in D-1 NCAA Football.    Had they just ridden with Singleton and Allen with their OL, there's no doubt that they win that game.

On 3rd and 3 on their second to last possession while winning by 7, they tried to get cute with a sprint out pass... Warren got held up and Allar ran for 1 yard.  And on that 4th and 2, rather than running it to get the first down, they punted.  Had they run the ball with their backs on 3rd (and 4th if necessary) keeping possession, I have no doubt that PSU goes up by 2 scores...  Instead they punt, and ND moves the length of the field, aided by the DBs slipping leaving their WR wide open for an easy TD.

Then on the following possession, with all kinds of time left on the clock over 4 and a half minutes... they get cute again.  They had the time to run the ball down the field to set up the winning FG, but instead they thought they needed to pass.  They did not.   They had 2 timeouts left, and the 2 minute warning... and the clock STILL stops after every first down until the chains are reset.   That's plenty of time for them to keep running the ball, just at a slightly uptempo pace rather than huddling every down.

In other words, while Allar was terrible... Franklin and the coaches were worse.   Why blame them?  Because all game Allar had shown that he wasn't good and couldn't be counted on to take care of the ball.   He threw 2 picks before the one that killed their chances, but they were called back due to penalties.  The penalties were penalties, but neither pick was actually a direct result of the penalty.  They were both poor decisions to throw the ball.  The coaches needed to see that Allar wasn't to be trusted not to throw a pick, and yet they let him determine the game rather than trust their best offensive players... Warren, Allen and Singleton.   They should have run the wildcat with Warren on that 3rd and 3 on the second to last possession since the goal was to get it to him on that play anyway.

Don't believe it. He wasn't cleared Tuesday so this is gamesmanship

Jones got in by name. Carter had better stats. That's a shame

Also $10 million over 4 years is only $2.5 million per year.  Perhaps someone who posts here can tell us how much advertising revenue $2.5 million per year amounts to.

You are conflating all kinds of things here.  1 - Wawa already has Kelce, they aren't going to switch to Baun.   2 - Kelce isn't getting even close to $2.5M per year from Wawa.  3 - Kraft cheating the system and funneling money to Brady to circumvent the salary cap isn't what we are talking about with NILs and endorsements.

You are making this entire scenario up out of thin air to convince yourself that the difference in money that Baun might get elsewhere could be covered by "NIL"s.  But, NILs are an NCAA thing, where boosters are now just paying players to come to their school.   No such avenue exists in the NFL (legally) outside of the salary cap.  The endorsements you are talking are 100% fabricated in your own mind.  There's no precedent for anything like this for a free agent to be with the Eagles... and defensive players get far fewer of the very very few individual endorsements available.  I can think of only two in recent memory... James Bradberry had a deal with a car dealership, and Haloti Ngata brought his deal with Royal Farms up from MD when he came here from the Ravens, but that deal was already in place before he got here.  AND... neither one approached $2.5M per year... or lasted 4 years.  Both were a 1 year deal.  This isn't a realistic solution to the problem.  The question comes down to whether or not Baun is interested in giving the Eagles a home town discount to stay and be more likely to see more of the 'soft' money in the contract rather than going back to being a role player elsewhere if his skill set doesn't fit as perfectly with his new team.   I think he's willing to walk away from a little guaranteed money to stay here, but he's not going to walk away from $10M (your number, it seems) to stay hoping to make it up in endorsements that don't currently exist.

He was a feared QB.  Now just a punchline.

If the Browns were smart they'd pass on a QB in this draft and take Carter. But they won't. They will blow another pick on a trash QB from a trash class and just compound their QB issues even more.

He probably did this on purpose for the lengthy rehab process where his masseuse can strengthen his achilles while playing the trombone at the same time.

I'm not afraid of a slow start from hurts because it happens every week.

It'll only come in to play against a team like the lions or in the super bowl.

Lane is better than Sewell and should have been first team.

Bobby Wagner might be the most overrated player of all-time based on being an all-pro 11 straight years. He simply hasn’t been at that level for a long time.

Interesting, Notre Dames Jordan Faison won the national championship on their lacrosse team this year.  Now one win away from doing it on the football team as well.

I wonder if anyone has ever won 2 national championships in 2 different sports before.

Jim Brown also in Football and Lacrosse would be my guess.

Some track and field stars might have won individual events as well as a team championship in another sport.
