The play calling from the sidelines is a huge part of that.

And in the running game his contribution of yards is substantial and probably even more importantly the threat of Hurts running makes Barkley even more efficient and effective.

Him running causes him to get injured and his brain scrambled

Chargers defense is just looks like toast right now unless they manage to force a turnover.

I’m guessing Johnston was supposed to run that route 2 yards deeper.

He's terrible. Bad route runner and stone hands

It's hard to evaluate Hurts' overall impact vs his impact as a passer. Would a QB like Herbert put up much better passing numbers here? No question. I think most QBs considered "good" would too.

But his impact on running game and short yardage is elite. About as good as it gets. There's a reason JAGs have put up 5ypc and 1000 yards in this offense, and it goes beyond just the OL. We've begun to take for granted that unlike pretty much 99% of NFL teams ever, we almost automatically convert 3rd and 1s.

And as a passer the touch on the sideline deep ball is also big time. And unlike Wentz or McNabb, when Hurts sees it and uncorks it, the ball usually goes where it needs to go.

So I really don't know what would happen if we replaced him. Would be a completely different offense.

My biggest issue with Hurts is that we have 2 elite WRs and only get only production out of 1. As we know, it's so hard to get one of those guys, and it often feels like we're wasting Devonta Smith's prime.

We'd see an explosive passing game and still have Barkley getting 1200-1300 yards on the ground.

There aren’t nearly as many hurts haters as there are apologists. All you have to do is listen to sports radio or read Reddit or social media to see people bending into pretzels not just to defend him but argue that he’s a sure fire top 5 QB. I heard a guy on the radio yesterday who called all confident like he was about to make some brilliant point and was like "let’s let the facts speak for themselves Hurts averages so and so passes per game and Burrow averages so and so passes per game, and their yardage is X and Y, so if you do the math, if Hurts threw as many times per game as Burrow he would’ve led the NFL in passing yards”

Oh yeah, sports radio.  Infamously pro Hurts.  The echo chamber of this board is about 80% anit-Hurts.  Hold him to a standard that no other QB in the league would be able to meet and it just makes you all the angrier when Hurts just continues to keep on winning.

Besides mcconkey they really don’t have much WR corps especially with Palmer out. Johnston, chark are the outside guys. Might be the two worse outside WRs in the playoffs.

Maybe one day in his career Herbert will finally win a playoff games.

Chargers defense saved by that holding call

wow what a pick

All football players get injured.  It’s a violent game.

Pretty bad. Need to address that in the offseason

Another interception by the great CJ Stroud.

I'm surprised they didn't blow that dead. He was pretty obviously touched down in the end zone.

No player can win a game by himself.  It is a team sport.  Teams win games.

Only great in your mind.

That was an incredible pick by james but i don’t think that return should count. Looks like the wr touchdown the chargers play as he was going down with the ball in the end zone

Better to let it play out and move the ball back.  You can't unblow the whistle.  You can reset the ball and clock.

All turnovers are reviewed.  They will get it right.

Maybe one day qb1 will be more than a game manager. Nahhh

I’d be surprised if it’s not reviewed during the timeout.

We certainly shouldn't fault Herbert for how awful he he has been this game.   Nor should we for his role in the Chargers blowing a 27-7 lead in the playoffs to the Jaguars a couple years back.

Wow. Lucky break.

Hmmmm

Wow. No INT.
