EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I keep coming back to Lurie wanting results from his investment. He likes explosive offense, passing & big plays. Barkley brings big play ability to the run game and worth the investment.

The defense is #1 despite Huff not producing & BG injury. The draft picks and some key signings have worked. Investing in the experienced coordinators & new position coaches worked.

Every major investment on offense is great except the most important position in sports. He's had some good games, settled into being a game manager at times. But this isn’t good enough.

They've proven they aren't afraid to make changes at QB. Depending on how the rest of the playoffs go, I wouldn't be surprised if Lurie wants a change.

We beat the Bucs last year in Tampa. Lost in the playoffs in Tampa while in a full blown meltdown without AJ.  Lost this year in Tampa without DeVonta and AJ, Barkley had a season low in rush attempts despite being very effective and our defense had Maddox instead of DeJean.  Also they had Godwin.  We should beat the Bucs in Philly.  Overall benefits of everything outweigh the other scenarios.

Yeah agree, the Buccs game (and I was at that one) think has very little bearing on a playoff game this year.

We all knew going in, the team would struggle moving the ball without AJ and Devonte. No team relies on their top two WRs like we do, and both were out.

Its about 50/50 whether Lurie is a smart enough football guy or if he is like many of the common fans here who think Hurts is elite at the position. Still seems more likely they continue cycling through coordinators and QB coaches rather than moving on from Hurts.

Finally watched the game. Was busy all day.

Eagles are lucky Green Bay is dog crap and players were dropping like flies because Hurts isn't it.

It was another typical Hurts being an absolute offense killer. A QB who can't throw worth a damn...wonderful.

No excuse with the weapons out there. Guy just sucks at throwing.

But but but HE won yet another playoff game today

Are there many who think Hurts is elite? I'd say there are a small handful of fans who have that opinion.

Oh look, ball hit the wire and THEY get a rekick

hard to say. More eyes have definitely opened this year. Im not sure which side has the majority yet.

Gotta roast these backup CB down the field

Quit giving the ball to Robinson

Gotta respect hurts work ethic toughness and leadership but if the result of those arent evident in on field theres no way you can pay z game manager 250 mil and expect to continue to compete

So far theyve won a lot of games with hurts but until he wins it all or looks like he could carry this team to a championship hes a detriment to viable roster construction.

So its the end of the 4th quarter and both of these teams have only scored 20 points.

The look fast and multifaceted on offense while playing each other. And the Buccs make a ton of tough, extra effort plays.

But 20 points is harder to come by against the eagles. AND, its not enough.

WTF D was that. They had two guys just standing there, protecting against scramble i guess but left wide open areas on the field

It's the Mcnabb Kolb effect.

AR started to figure out that he couldn't run his offense to it's full potential with Mcnabb (a superior example to Hurts, but the analogy holds).  But it can still get a heck of a lot worse than the guy who isn't good enough and is holding you back.  AR dabbled, got someone who was worse (or at least...not ready and needed growing pains...but also, in Kolb's case, definitely worse)...and then it was impossible to move on until Mcnabb was clearly cooked.

Going from someone with Hurts' winning % to Russian roulette at QB is risky business.  Howie is bold, but I'm not sure anyone other than an armchair GB is that bold.  So it'll be Hurts until the roster erodes enough that the hopes of winning are gone and they can make a less pressurized QB search and change.

I don't they drafted Kolb because of McNabb's limitations.  I think they drafted Kolb because McNabb had only missed big parts of the prior 2 seasons and he was turninf 31.  Kolb was the back up for 3 seasons.  2007 was a meh season for McNabb but 2008 was his best season statistically as a passer. He had a good year in 2009 but McNabb melted down in the playoff game against Dallas and I think that was the last straw.  Of course, Kolb wasn't the only option.  They had added Vick. I think that was why they felt better moving on from McNabb.

Howie isn't staying put on the QB front. Adding Pickett wasn't an accident.  They are going to keep addressing the position.

Burning clock

I guess with the Rams and Minnesota playing on Monday night, theres no way they stick them with a Saturday game then.

Would seem safe to assume eagles play Sunday if Washington wins this.

Yep....if GB was even part way competent today the Eagles lose because the QB is a mental midget throwing the ball.

He absolutely cannot throw with any anticipation either due to stupidity or lack of arm strength. I think its both honestly.

The Hurts knobslobbers will suck away of course and convince themselves there is no problem and Hurts is some transcendent talent.

I give the defense credit for the win...not Hurts at all.

Correct.  That would suck and would be completely unfair.

I’ve said this since the beginning of the season. The playoffs are going to to be a big influence on what their long-term future is at quarterback. Because if the defense doesn’t play well, that’s why they lose. That’s one thing. But if it’s the quarterback that’s holding your offense back then they’re not gonna sit there and say we just have to keep going with Jalen. That’s not how they have worked in the past. If they identify a problem and they think they need to go out and upgrade or find the long-term future, they are willing to do it. Their window is now so if the Qb is holding the offense back they can’t sit and just hope hurts gets back to 2022

That’s why I said since beginning of the season the playoffs are huge for Jalen hurts. Because if he’s good and does the job then they’ll move forward with him. If he’s the one holding them back then lurie and howie aren’t going to just ignore that problem. They are proactive

Rams/Vikings on Sunday Night it is then.

Risky throw but that catch and run probably just won the game for them.

One more 1st down and TB shouldn’t see the ball again
