I’m late on this discussion from last night and always only watching here or there so maybe the broadcast mentioned it…

Washington has been historically good on fourth down. According to Solak, they have the best success rate (at some minimum threshold, I think 10), but they did it on a high volume.

Look at the tablet over the previous drive. I'm sure Hurts does it but whenever the camera is on him when they're on the sidelines he's very rarely looking at the tablet

I'll play devil's advocate again but....

He was talking about it being a tool to clear his head.  Maybe not reviewing his mistakes over and over is the best thing for him.  The best golfers have the ability to immediately forget a bad shot.  Great pitches can shake off a bad throw and get back to painting the zone.  So for him, maybe it's best he centers himself and not focus on what just occurred.

Besides, it's kind of more important that the QB is reading the defense, vs a WR, anyway.

I think their season percentage on 4th is around 80% give or take.......a lot of that is Daniels using his legs, but the kid can throw too.

Fairly obvious but still sucks for him.

Hopefully Vic can do something to help out Burks because he will be the target all game long next week.

That sounds like ACL much more than anything else I've heard speculated.

Listening to WIP on my drive...the threshold for Hurts is officially "just don't turn it over."  If he puts a 0 in the turnover margin, then his proponents will say he did is job and had a good game.  As long as he doesn't do anything to lose, it's on the shoulders of other players to do something to win.

Yep.  The bar has been lowered beyond ridiculous levels.

Agreed.

If that's the bar, we should trade him immediately.

It is the bar....but statistically, there is a greater than 50% chance that whomever you replace Hurts with will not clear that bar.

As much as this offense may carry the QB and it's easy to say that "QB x would look so much better here"...QB x already has a starting job.  We are looking at Mckee, rookies, Sam Darnolds and Baker Mayfields (before they surprised and proved to take a starting job)...and next offseason's version of Sam Darnold has a 95% chance of going in the other direction.

Chiefs Texans is going to be a bloodbath. That should easily be the early game.

You really think the Texans are going to slaughter KC?  KC hasn’t slaughtered anyone this year.

I wonder if Jalyx Hunt could fill in some at LB.  He's bigger than Dean but played Safety and has some good speed.

Just stopped in to learn how badly we were beaten and how badly everybody played.

By all accounts, very badly.

Mike Schmidt was so right.

When we don't blow teams out by 3+ scores, then we all have to suffer through witnessing such an "ugly" win.

What's better: go ballistic on the sidelines for only having 3 balls thrown your way or reading passages from a book to help prevent him from going ballistic?  Amazing self-moderation in my opinion.  Now, if he only has 3 targets through 3 qtrs next week, I encourage him to get animated on the sidelines.

The defense played great.   The offense, specifically the passing offense, cannot be described as anything but ugly.  And going forward in the playoffs, that Achilles heel may rear its head.   There is reason for concern.  They need to be better in the passing game, from execution to scheme, to play calling.

Relate with what is rather than what isn't.  He obviously mostly stinks reading, throwing guys open, tight windows.  When we had to have a TD he came through.  If he played like Love we lose.

Tbh honest it feels like they are in 4th and 3 or less a ton of the time. Last night they went for it on 4th and 3 or less, 4 times and were 2-4. They went for it on 4th down 5 times (other time was 4th and 5 and got it) so 3-5. Also run Daniels on early downs and usually picks up 5+ yards to make it more manageable the rest of the downs.

I couldn't keep up with this thread (partially because I was on Ellie duty, partially because.... jeebus you guys are obsessed football nerds), but between some things I saw here and some things I heard on the radio this AM, I would like to play devils advocate in regards to AJ Brown reading that book.

I get that there is a perception that he's a diva, so this could be a way to act out.  And I get the perception he can be hostile toward the local media.

But this is also a person who has battled serious depression.  I don't think I can fault him for having something that keeps his compass pointing true north.

As for the quote "No, I was not frustrated at all, I figured that’s probably what y’all thought. I wasn’t frustrated. Why y’all always think I be frustrated? Dang! I read the book, I like to read it.”, he IS talking to a local media that has speculated where his head is at for the past two years.  Not sure I can blame him for being defensive.

Who knows.  Maybe next week he posts a goose egg because Hurts is so rusty he couldn't hit a billboard and ends up stuffing a make a wish kid in a gatorade jug and I'm WAY off.  But after listening to some of the takes on WIP I really think this is a nothingburger.

I don't think it's a big deal. He brought the book to the game before he knew how the game was going to go for him.  It probably does help him stay focused.

Their only shot at a Super Bowl is Saquon and the defense playing lights out. They are stacked at every single position except the most important one on the field at QB. It’s going to be really tough if they don’t go all the way this year knowing that they probably would have cruised with exceptional quarterback play.

I was tough on Hurts last night but at the end of the day I agree - scheme and play calling are also responsible.

We know Hurts isn't a great passer but with Brown, Smith, Goedert we have to do better. And that includes Moore. When you have those weapons you don't need to be a gunslinger, just get the ball in their hands and let them do the rest. Too many playmakers on this offense to have 3 and outs like that.

How do you get the ball in their hands when your QB doesn’t see the field well, refuses to pull the trigger when people are open, and repeatedly takes unnecessary sacks?

Hurts is THE limiting factor for the passing game.

And we won a much "uglier" game against the falcons 7 years ago too. Cause for concern is fine, but it's the NFL playoffs, you're not always gonna steam roll everyone by 3 scores at this point of the season. An elite defense, paired with a ball control offense that isn't turning it over, can and has won titles many times over in this league. Deep breaths, people. Deep breaths.

Yup. The passing game we saw yesterday was similar to what we saw during that ravens and Carolina stretch. I’m not sure how anyone watches that game and doesn’t have some concern about it. Outside of the Steelers game, the passing game with hurts has been lackluster 3 out of his last 4 starts (not including commanders due to him being knocked out early). The fact aj brown had 1 reception for 10 yards is also an issue. I find it hard to believe the packers down their best corner and analytics shown there’s a drop off without him that he had 1 reception for 10 yards.

Of course.  But there wasn't much optimism after the Falcons game in 2017 either.

Not sure I agree with you on this.

At some point, a player is what he shows he is on the field.

Hurts hasn’t been a good passer. He struggled to see the field. He panics under pressure in the pocket. He has a very mediocre arm. He takes bad sacks.

Maybe this is the bar. Maybe he actually is Trent Dilfer with running ability.
