EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

C'mon, he's the coach, not Hurts' servant. It's his job to run the offense that gives them the best chance of success. Hurts has been inconsistent, but people are being blinded by their anti-Hurts agenda and giving everyone else a pass. One person is never to blame for struggles. We saw it vs the Steelers. Offense was coming off an ugly game, they came out running exactly the type of stuff we wanted to see and the offense was humming all game.

So where is that same stuff? Why revert back to the same garbage that made the offense stagnant this season? Moore and Sirianni should not get a pass on this.

What happened to the RPO slants to Brown over the middle? What happened to the mesh concepts? What happened to Devonta drags over the middle when sending everyone else deep giving Devonta a chance for YAC? They reverted back to the all verticals and all curls BS yesterday.

Yup. The passing game we saw yesterday was similar to what we saw during that ravens and Carolina stretch. I’m not sure how anyone watches that game and doesn’t have some concern about it. Outside of the Steelers game, the passing game with hurts has been lackluster 3 out of his last 4 starts (not including commanders due to him being knocked out early). The fact aj brown had 1 reception for 10 yards is also an issue. I find it hard to believe the packers down their best corner and analytics shown there’s a drop off without him that he had 1 reception for 10 yards.

I am NOT the biggest Hurst proponent but when it comes to AJ, I honestly did not see him getting open doing jumping jacks.  I honestly believe his knee to be a bigger issue as to why he wasn't targeted/didn't have catches over Hurts.....just sayin.....

Trying to find a silver lining. Dean was probably looking at a pretty good sized 2nd contract. There's a chance he might not even see the field next year now. You have to wonder if Howie is thinking injury discount extension next year, or at the very least, his value on the open market won't be what it was.

But yea, Baun just became that much more important to bring back. Trotter really needs to work on 5-7 pounds and his tackling. I'm not worried about his instincts one bit. If they add a higher tier LB in the draft and run back next year with Baun, Trotter, BVS and Burks I think that would be doable.

TBH not sure you can count on BVS off that injury either. He might need a year to get back to where he was as his surgery was in December.

The Eagles were already going to draft another LB next season most likely just because they have such little depth there and Dean unfortunately has been so injury prone. He's gotten hurt literally every season. But at least we know we have two young stud LBs when healthy for the first time in years. Dean will bounce back, in the mean time add some depth in the offseason.

Agree. AJ didn’t seem to be open a ton. Normally he is.

He was open for a TD on the 3rd and short.  Good call, bad throw.

I’d assume this makes re-signing Baun priority #1 now if it wasn’t already. They’re not going into next season with two new linebackers.

It’s easy to put it on his knee was the reason why he didn’t have it yesterday. However, I pointed this out after the ravens game that this has been going on for like weeks. Where aj just completely disappears from the offense for long stretches of time. I’d point out from the end of the first half against the ravens to just before the end of the 2nd quarter against Carolina he had 0 targets. It was over 60 mins of actual game without a target. I really don’t think this is a knee issue. Cowboys fans would complain about the same thing in Moore’s offense with lamb and getting him the ball.

I have to go back and find the post I made after the ravens game, but it showed the previou games prior to that the ravens game that he’d disappear from being targeted or getting a reception for a long period of time.

One of you should change it to an Eagles jersey and it's still the same

AJ Brown burned the DBs deep on the fake tush push, he looked perfectly spry to me, Hurts just threw a duck. Hurts was inaccurate yesterday. He's usually accurate even in games when he can't read defenses for crap. Yesterday he was neither accurate nor decisive. Not that the game plan did him any favors. Even some passes completed were behind and low. Goedert's TD was a bad pass, and the other one in the flat he needed to tip to get control of was also an inaccurate ball.

I know Sirianni mentioned the two sacks as why he gave Smith the game ball.  IMO, taking out their LG was one of the biggest plays of the game.

His job was to set the edge and did it with such violence he changed the game.

When I went back and watched the game last night, the play that still pisses me off with Moore is the 3rd and 5 where they threw it behind the line of scrimmage to Barkley with Devonta Smith as their lead blocker.

There’s a ton of things to dislike about the play call. First Smith shouldn’t be the lead blocker. We tried that last year and it rarely worked. Nearly got hurt last year doing it. Furthermore, he’s already dealing with a back injury so why are you putting more stress on him to be a lead blocker.

Secondly it was predictable from the moment Saquon Barkley went into motion. You saw it with the Packers defender. all of them knew it was going to Saquon. So predictability was a problem on that play.

Third you have AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Barkley and Dallas Goedert as weapons along with hurts ability to run. If we thinking throwing a pass behind the line of scrimmage and asking  our smallish WR with a back issue to hold a block is the best play there then we have bigger problems. Yesterday the commanders were in similar situations. They either ran with Daniels, or targeted their big play guys in mclaurin or Ertz or even got Ekeler in space vs. a linebacker 3-4 yards down field. That was a Brian Johnson special by the eagles on that 3rd down.

I absolutely hated that play call too.

Agreed. Have to assume that Dean is a non-factor moving forward.

Re-sign Baun + draft an LB to compete with Trotter for LB2.

From the reactions I saw yesterday it seemed overall that everyone liked the play and just wish Hurts threw a better ball

Speaking of, the wind didn't seem to be a factor, why were Elliott's kick-offs short? If it's not windy they are usually 5 yards in the endzone.

Seemed to be by design... and worked to our advantage.   That opening kickoff fumble really was a tide changer.

Look at the tablet over the previous drive. I'm sure Hurts does it but whenever the camera is on him when they're on the sidelines he's very rarely looking at the tablet

Neither is any QB. Yesterday they showed Love looking at the tablet once. All the other times he was sitting alone, not talking to teammates or coaches and not looking at the tablet.

Hurts deserves criticism for his play. But this obsession with the tablet is weird. You watch games around the league and the QB is sitting alone, laughing with teammates or other things. The things fans expect Hurts to do, other QBs aren't doing them either but don't get hate for it.

I expect a better game from Burks next Sunday after a full week of practice.

Not easy to come off the bench after getting only a handful of reps.

I don’t really think his knee was as big of a problem as people wanted it to be. He looked pretty good after the Steelers game when it popped up on the report and he played well against the commanders. He looked pretty good against the Cowboys with the same knee problem going on. To me this is an ongoing issue where he just isn’t utilized or targeted for long stretches of time. It’s why after the panthers game everything erupted the way it did. Again I keep saying this because the point is still valid, Cowboys fans would say the same things with CeeDee Lamb so this isn’t anything new with Kellen Moore.

They were also towards one side of the field, adding the sideline as a defender.

I don't care if Love is or isn't

I watch games around the league and I do see the tablets being used. Google is also your friend

While we tackled like crud yesterday, there’s no doubt we are a physical team. Last year we might have been the softest defense in the league in every way imaginable.
