Part of the reason was because he did an excellent job selling the fake. I wouldn't say he looks labored, but he has looked more explosive at times

For the life of me, I can't figure out why their screen game is so bad. They have the best and one of the most athletic OL in the game, the best OL coach in the game and a RB who has a history of being a great pass catcher yet somehow they can't get out of their own way on screens.

To make things worse, they'd rather rely on their WR blocking on screens. None of it makes sense.

I was listening to Sirius NFL radio the other day and they were talking about how the QB and the OL has to sell regular pass for the screen to work. OL needs to have a regular pass rep for 2 secs and the QB has to look like he's starting to go through his progressions. Both of those lead a DL to overcommit to pass rush. I am assuming that Hurts isn't very good at looking like he's going through his progressions because of the system we normally run, where most of that info is decided for him in pre-snap and he's just reading one guy after snap. Part of the issue with the simplified system for him.

edit: could also be a case of our OL being too good and when they "lose" the other team knows exactly what's going on.

I much appreciate this. My point, such as it was, was that Hurts had plenty of company for the mediocre offensive performance. I thought the OL had maybe its worst game of the season. I’ll have a better sense when the All-22 comes out.

Fair enough.  If the failed drives were mixed in with the good ones, it maybe wouldn't have felt as bad.

But there is a constancy of a period in each game where they looked lost on offense.  It had been at the beginnings.  Now it's shows up randomly.

Thousands of publishers and struggling authors will be sending free copies to NovaCare this week.

Kind of reminds me of the dog masks and how one Monday a guy in China woke up to a CRAP TON of orders and all of his stock of existing dog masks was already sold out.

If I remember correctly, he was initially upset, thinking it was some kind of mistake only to discover that some city in an Eastern U.S. state was gobbling up any kind of Dog Mask they could find lol.

Rather play the Vikings. I always want them to play the worst QB available. That's Darnold here. Especially as he laid an egg last week vs. Lions. Rams have more explosive weapons on offense that can go off on you. And now that Dean is out, Vikings will be more preferable.

Random thoughts on a game that alternated between feeling like a blowout to a blown lead, back and forth, until the the 4th quarter.

OFFENSE

- I'm calling this a C+ game for Jalen, but it was just weird all the way around. Start 6/6, then go 0/7, then close out 7/8 in the 2nd half to end up 13/21 for 131 yards and 2 TDs. Obviously the best stat is the lack of turnovers as compared to the competition. He missed on the fake brotherly shove (only incompletion of the 2nd half), but other than that I'm not convinced there were a ton of open guys he was missing. It really felt like Kellen Moore crapped the bed for a long period in this game. I HATED the swing pass call to Barkley on 3rd and 5 on our 2nd drive -- I know DeVonta is tough, but let's stop with plays that have him as a lead blocker. On our 3rd drive, we go 3 straight incompletions after 1st and 10 at the GB 13 -- it didn't seem like anyone was open. But just when we seem dead, they finally get Jalen out of the pocket and he connects with Smitty for a long gain, and 2 plays later he audibles to the screen to Goedert for a TD (not a great throw, hell of a catch and run). The disappointing part was this game could/should have been over in the 1st half. Give GB's defense a ton of credit as it seemed they were very well prepared, but I put this 75% on play calling. Moore was just bad, but at least we finally scored on our last 3 real drives to end the game. The defense bailed them out long enough.

- Saquon is just a beast -- it didn't seem like he had a great game but ended up with 119 that could have been 178 had he gone to the house at the end. I thought the OL played well most of the game but did struggle with some of the pressures in the 2nd quarter.

- AJ really did block his butt off, and Smitty had a few grabs. Overall it didn't seem like they were getting open. I don't know why we hate calling slants to AJ -- they are damn near unstoppable. And nice to know Dotson is still alive. Again, it feels like the lack of production is mainly on the play calling.

- I had forgotten what an upgrade Goedert is over Calcaterra. That TD was a thing of beauty -- the catch, the stiff arms, all of it.

- The illegal motion penalty on Smitty (negated a 1st down run by Jalen) and the lack of a PI when Goedert got mauled were ridiculous.

DEFENSE

- Nolan Smith just abused a 1st team all pro RT (I kinda wanted Lane to start yelling "is this your 1st team all-pro, AP?"). The 2 sacks were awesome, but he's so physical taking on blocks for a smaller guy. He's really starting to remind me of BG. He is without a doubt our best pass rusher.

- Jalyx Hunt seemed to get some pressure and play a solid game. Sweat didn't so much, and Huff with his one snap played. Going to need more from Sweat going forward.

- Carter was a monster per usual -- on Jacobs' long run to the half yard line, I thought Carter was going to blow it up he penetrated so quickly. But Jordan Davis had a great game, and Williams and Ojomo played outstanding as well. I am getting a little too fired up about Ojomo -- he is becoming a real problem for offenses. Clearly these guys all benefited from the Packers' injuries, but they dominated the game.

- Just so bummed for Nakobe -- he was having such a monster year. Burks gives effort but missed too many tackles. I want to see Trotter Jr. get a shot at that job next week. Burks was better against Dallas and NYG, but still.

- Baun just keeps making money every week.

- Slay had perfect coverage on that INT, and I'm glad Q finally got one. The PI call on Q was iffy at best. Love averaged only 6.4 YPA and threw 3 picks -- that's domination by the secondary. Did Alex Smith actually call our secondary the weak link before the game? Why do they put people on TV to talk about football if they don't watch football.

- Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many missed tackles.

COACHING

- Fangio won this game for us and bailed out Nick and Kellen. Simple as that.

Maybe you got teams confused about Nolan Smith abusing 1st Team all pro RT unless i missed something and Zach Tom is a 1st team all pro ?

That surprises me. They had a bit of a cupcake schedule though.

Feel like the Lions, Packers, Rams, etc all ran with ease against them

I could be wrong

The Packers and Vikings have identical schedules outside of 2 games.

I loved the play. It's been brought up throughout the season that they should have some sort of fake because of the success rate

Cornerbacks didn’t have one interception during the regular season but had two yesterday. Funny how that works and hopefully it opened the flood gates.

He was a PFF 1st team

Yeah AJ was definitely hurting - had he been 100% that’s a TD

The Vikings defense is predicated on bringing the blitz to create turnovers. If I remember correctly, I think they’re like top five in takeaways

It's close- Vikes give up 21 more yards per game but gave up two fewer TDs than GB.  Pretty darn close.

I’m assuming most of us are rooting for the Rams tonight?

Vikes allowed fewer pts, but Packers are also missing their best defender. Vikes are the better defense right now.

Which is why I believe that play should have been designed for Dotson to go deep.

They allowed Barkley to run for over 4 yards per carry while the defense focused on stopping the run. There were some glaring pass pro break downs on blitzes and we shouldnt lose sight of the fact that Hurts has begun calling protections this year with Kelce gone. So when blitzes are flooding through, a lot of that will be on Hurts.

We can't decide if it's Siri's offense, Moore's offense but at times Siri interferes, Moore's offense but limited by Hurts, Hurts offense no matter who the coach or OC is, Moore's offense and he can't adjust. Maybe it's a little of everything.

I saw some successful passing from under the center which was a breath of fresh air. Now if we can only get some play action out of it smh.

Well looks like McCarthy is done in Dallas. You knew Jerry was going to do something to grab some headlines, lol.   Now Jerry will probably be trying to get Kellen.   Can we just have our coordinators for longer than a season for a change.  I know after a big season like this Kellen was going to get offers but I hope he decides to stay. Thankfully Vic is happy and wants to stay.

Look at the tape.  He was clearly laboring.  He probably would have had six yards normally and the throw would have landed in his hands

Is Dotson ever in on the tush pushes? That would have showed their hand changing up the personnel I would think.

Oops, yeah. I said AP in the post. My bad. That was Penei Sewell.
