190 passing yards per game with a perfect TD:INT, plus a good but not great running threat.

Basically the prototype of a game manager.

Just look at Lamar's stats vs the Steelers.  16/21, 175  Yds, 2 TDs.  He also had 15 carries for 81 yds and Henry had 186 yds and 2 TDs.  Why would you want your QB to pass more if you can win with a dominating run game?

some of y'all that complain are just dumb, lol

From where I'm sitting, from all appearances, the Eagles will play in the NFCCG in Detroit.  I am less confident that the team will advance to the Super Bowl.

Dang. Just noticed the Eagles game is on NBC. Tirico is decent but Collingsworth will make the telecast unbearable 😞

Brad Johnson was also a game manager. Our running game and defense is comparable to that Bucs team (D is not as good but running game is better.) Tom Brady's first SB win was the textbook definition of game managing. Peyton Manning might as well have been a mannequin in his SB win with the Broncos. The list is much longer than just Trent Dilfer.

Agreed. It’s a viable path to a ring.

Why not give out his entire playoff record? Why cherrypick to last 5 games just to remove the horrible one from Bucs?

119-186 64% 1218yds 7TDs 2INT 90.7 rating

Also cherry picked to not include the fumble in the Super Bowl.   But, this is the hype machine in full blown hype mode.   And this is why there are folks on the other side to balance out the equation.   There are some that try to portray that Hurts has no flaws... so others will try to focus on nothing but the flaws.   The truth is in the middle.  He's a flawed QB, but he's our flawed QB, and he's our best hope for a Super Bowl right now... so we have to hope that he can maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses for the next 3 games.  If he does, this team has as good a shot to win it all as anybody, and a better shot to win it all than most.

This is why I never understood the conspiracies that the league is out to get the Eagles. They’ve been one of the best ratings draws for 20+ years now. The league wants them in big TV spots. But there has been head-scratching officiating this year in their games. It seemed fine against Green Bay though other than the Goedert PI which was bang-bang in real time. So hopefully it stays that way.

Justin Herbert has played 2 play off games in 3 years, he blew a 27 point half time lead in the first one and just went out of wild card weekend with a 4 pick meltdown and you think he'd win it all anywhere?

I was under the impression the exercise was putting those QBs on the current Eagles roster and giving a record

If you don't like it then create your own?

Who else did we lose at sofi besides Graham? I’m completely blanking. The Colosseum is where we lost Carson Wentz, but if it wasn’t for that we also wouldn’t have gotten the greatness of Nick Foles.

Was that the Colosseum?   Well, never mind then.

I thought Baby Trott looked pretty good in limited preseason action. Might be his time to shine.

He has more upside and if both are going to miss tackles go with the kid.

Well, there's the fact that 2 of their best players on defense right now are also rookies... and the fact that there's not much more that can be done other than to give JT Jr the confidence that he can play at this level and hope that he plays strong enough to make the tackles on the plays he reads properly.   IIRC, against the Giants he made some great reads and was in the right place for some really nice plays... but failed to bring down the ball carrier.   I'm hoping moving forward he finishes the job.  Then again, I feel the same way about the whole defense, because there were too many 'close, but not good enough' moments by the defense against the Packers.  With JT Jr, I think gang tackling will be key.   When going for the TFLs, just make sure you don't get shaken free cleanly, and the rest of the defense should be able to rally up and finish the job.

First, I’m not the biggest Lamar fan. He’s exciting to watch, he puts up crazy numbers, but… Will he ever win a ring?

I don’t have a problem playing hard nose defense and running the ball. It’s clearly the most straight forward way to make the playoffs. It does make it harder to win a ring though. Most Super Bowl winners have an elite QB.

My biggest problem isn’t even Hurts, per se, it’s that we are paying him like he is a top 5 QB who can carry the team. Clearly that’s not him. If we are going to use the model of ferocious defense and a punishing running game, we need a cheaper QB so we can keep all of the talent we stack around him.

We have an elite offensive line, running game, and defense.  Jalen is not going to make throws into tight windows because he doesn't want to throw interceptions.

Does that make him a game manager?  Maybe.  But it also wins football games.

It 100% makes him a game manager but that’s not the worst thing in the world. He’s riding an elite offensive line, running back, and defense to wins. It’s the equivalent of someone in a group project putting in minimal effort to get a good grade. The fact that the best thing we can say about Hurts right now is that he isn’t turning the ball over is literally the definition of a game manager. The bar has been lowered that much that some consider it a good game if he has zero turnovers.

But the way this roster has been constructed allows for that to be passable. They’ll need more from him against the Rams, but not that much more if the defense continues to hold their ground. If they don’t, it’s curtains.

Fran Duffy mentioned the other day how in week 18 Burks and Trotter Jr. rotated series and also explained that it was probably due to them also taking special teams snaps and that was a way to help balance the load.

Wonder if the Eagles would do the same again or if they will stick with one guy.

More slants, digs, and drags, fewer hitches, swings, and verts. Throw in some max protect on occasion to try to give us time to free up someone with a double move or deep crosser. And I'd like to see more chipping the edges which provides the two fold benefit of helping the tackles and also slowing the RB/TE's route release out of the backfield to naturally time up better with the progression on a given play.

Are you watching the games?  They run a gazillion slants as part of their RPO game.  The long play to Smith on Sunday was a crossing route from the other side of the field.  They do run max protect a few times a game - it often results in a deep out to the sideline.  Teams would prefer NOT to chip and to get the RB/TE into their routes earlier.  Having Mailata and Johnson gives us that advantage.

Agree. Lions will massacre the R Words and then it’ll be the Eagles toughest road game of the season. (They could still win though)

He's not even being paid as a top 5 QB anymore, he's sitting at # 9 right now.  Both Love and Herbert are above him in terms of highest paid, and they both had career worsts this past weekend

Mahomes is constantly gushed over for being the best QB right now, and the Chiefs beat us in the SB with him managing the game.  Lastly, no QB really carries a team (well, maybe Josh does). We can argue that the QB is the most important player, but even Mahomes doesn't "carry" the Chiefs.

For starters, take more shots downfield to his pro ball Wide Receivers. Should be throwing at least 3 of those a game. This will also keep them engaged and happy.

More creative plays that are designed for North & South running opportunities for Hurts. Get that read option going.

More hurry up offense. Especially early in games where they have been stagnant most of the year.

Also, more usage for Goedert & Dotson to be playmakers and get some RAC after short passes.

At times, make Hurts more of a point guard with all these playmakers and have him hustling things up. Of course Barkley can still get his.

The read option is dead.  Teams are consistently scraping their LB.  Also, the read option isn't really a North/South play.

They have a really nice North/South version where they run counter with a pulling OL leading Hurts through the B gap.

They often go to tempo once they pass their own 40.  Brady talked about that during the Steelers game.

The deep shots and ball distribution is really more up to Hurts than the play caller.  Hurts trusts certain guys and is turnover hesitant.

I'm actually surprised the Eagles don't run more go routes.  There isn't much reading and recognition required, and Hurts normally throws a pretty good deep ball.  Single coverage, the guy guarding you stinks and/or commits DPI's, it's a play that should be used to back the defense off.

I've never agreed with the need for max protect to throw it, either.  Let it go early and to a spot where the WR should be.

The NFL likes Philly as the heel.

We are a big market which brings in viewers. But we aren’t a glamor team in a mega market with a super star QB.

In a perfect NFL world, we would make the NFCCG or Super Bowl every year and lose to NY, LA, etc. — especially as the league continues to grow internationally.

Ideally, the NFL wants their version of the Lakers or Yankees to sell to foreigners. Basically the cities foreigners know in the US are NY, LA, Vegas, Chicago, and Miami. No one outside of the US ever thinks about Philadelphia.

A gazillion? Ok then show them to me from the packers game. Can you count how many there were for me while you're at it? Ya know, since you've been watching the games and I haven't.

And wouldn'tcha know, it worked. Maybe we should try hitting it more than once a game?

And I'm saying the RB/TE getting into their routes earlier isn't as much as a benefit for us with our offense and route concepts right now. We don't need to chip with our OL, but slowing down their release could time up better to when Hurts would be looking to check it down. He tends to check it down less often and much later than most other QBs, (whether that's a Hurts issue or a KM issue is a different story.) You asked what plays would play to his strengths better, and that's one of them that I think could help. It's also why I don't like so many of the routes that terminate too early by design, especially if they're not the primary read.
