EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I completely agree. The Eagles have moved off of starting quarterbacks quicker than most teams, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Howie may make a move at the position.  I think people are really jumping the gun if they are assuming that move would be to Tanner McKee.

If a surprise QB move happens, I think it’s far more likely that Howie would be in love with a player in the draft (not this draft) and make moves to move up.

Jalen would have to crap the bed the rest of the playoffs plus next season. Then I think all bets are off

Great.  We need 2+ ballers.  This defense could become Buddy-like with some nasty pressure off the edge.

Really depends on what happens with Milt. If he goes, I feel like we will need both DE & DT. I do like quite a few guys at both positions.

Apparently we were vanilla in the wildcard game with Packers on purpose

Too lopsided.  Need to throw in Elliott.

Not sure Elliott gets it done. May need to throw in Carter as well.

Does anyone know where the Rams are practicing this week? I have heard conflicting reports. One says they went straight to the East Coast after their Monday Night game and in town, and the other said they went back to CA looking for a place to practice away from the drama and the fires.

I’m on board with that.  Although I wouldn’t mind seeing Walter Nolen in Kelly Green.

Nolan is my guy right now in the first, even if we keep Williams.

A 5 man rotation along the 3 DL spots of Carter, Nolan, Williams, Davis and Ojomo… 🤯

That said, I have a feeling Nolen gets taken before we pick.

By the way, for some of you Hurts apologists, why do you think he’s being "coached out of” making risky throws?  Maybe because they don’t trust him even a little bit bc he has consistently shown that he doesn’t have that ability?

Do you really think being "coached out of making risky throws” does not happen in 100% of NFL teams and for over 95% of NFL QBs?

I have that feeling too.

Saleh i think could be a fantastic coach, if hired to the right place.  By all accounts everyone but A-Aron loved playing for him…the team circled the drain completely once he left.   Would make sense in Pitt, NE or Buffalo if they decide to move on if they don’t make the SB this year.  Somewhere like Dallas, Jax or Chicago would be the end of his HC career and he’d be back to being a DC for the rest of his career.

Yeah I think Micah would love playing for him compared to McCarthy.

I’m gonna leave you with this, they specifically asked him in that quote if there was a shift in running the ball. And he completely ignored that there was a shift and talked passing game being vital with a RB. Also, there’s other articles where he talks about his analytics team indicating to him passing the football is the way to titles. So it wouldn’t just be him shifting it would be a complete shift in the analytics for him to have that change.

So with analytics, let’s just look at the last five years. The Super Bowl champions were chiefs, Bucs, Rams, Chiefs and Chiefs. Reid’s philosophy is still pass first to get the lead so that you could run it later in the game. That’s not changed. Rams/bengals Super Bowl consisted of 30th ranked rushing attack and 23rd but top 8 pass attacks. Bucs Super Bowl title was 25th ranked rushing attack and 4th in passing. So I don’t know where the analytics would have changed for Jeffrey Lurie to all of a sudden go away from what his philosophy is.  he should be even more ingrained based off the last five Super Bowl champions.

Imo i think they saw the San Francisco 49ers get Christian McCaffrey and how dynamic he was in the pass game for Shanahan and purdy as well as boosting their overall running game.  they figured we could do that with Saquon Barkley as a FA to elevate the passing and running game. And he was at a great price compared to money being spent on other positions on the market

You very consistently think inside the box and don’t place much value in what is written between the lines.  I very consistently think outside the box and treat anything that politicians say with a horse lick of salt.  Lurie is a politician when he steps in front of the press.

You may be right. Getting fired by the Jets  is a good thing. OTOH, he butchered his handling of Becton, for which I am grateful but for which there is no excuse.

I think he gets a pass for the dysfunction he dealt with in NY.  From what I understand they had a literal child making personnel decisions because the owner makes Jerry Jones and Khan look sane.  I personally think he’s better off going back to being a DC for a bit and waiting for the right job.  Who knows though…defensive minded HC’s seem to start off a couple feet behind in this era.  Meco might be the exception…but that’s unknown right now.

What other explanation is there for the severe drop in deep throws? He was letting it loose early in the season and had picks along with it. Now he's not turning the ball over but he's also not throwing deep as much

NE already has their coach

He seems like a likeable guy.  However, Dallas should be on the list of places he should avoid IMO.  Every day that Jerry gets older, the more laughable the situation down there gets.

Game script has a lot to do with it. We didn't take a bunch of deep shots against GB because we didn't have to. Their offense was never once on the field to even be in position to take the lead, let alone ours coming out on the field having to take it back.

Salah might not have a choice, unfortunately. I think he likely ends up as a DC again somewhere first before getting another shot at HC.

I'm not talking about just the wildcard game though

Yes and Pitt and Buffalo still have their HC’s too.  I just named a few spots that would or would have made sense for him to succeed and be given an actual opportunity.

Worked for Dan Quinn - the OL is the glaring problem with that team, not the D.

There is no doubt in my mind that he has been coached to avoid risk.  Kellen Moore has been coached to avoid risk in his play calling.  You clearly didn’t understand my point.  Let me state it again. I believe that the Eagles are one of 32 teams that coach their QBs in risk avoidance.  I also believe that over 95% of the QBs in the NFL receive risk avoidance coaching.

This is more than likely the outcome for him, and what’s probably the best.  The current openings should be hiring the Chip Kelly and Jon Gruden’s of the world of coaching.  Because they’re not going anywhere.

Wait Ewers declared for the draft?  I thought he was transferring to Oregon?  CFB is so f’d…

How many recent games were we in where we kept going back and forth having to retake the lead? I honestly can't remember any aside from the loss to the commanders.

This is a ridiculous take. The coach is merely limited by what qb1 can do. If you don’t believe that go rewatch the Dallas game where the offensive play calling was considerably different from what they do with hurts. Ie basic quick slant routes to WRs.
