My overall point was really this if our passing game is the same in 2025 and running game/barkley isnt able to sustain this level then i dont know how you are going to be just as good.

And my counter is that the easiest solution is to make sure that the running game is sustainable and offered the simplest solution.

I think there’s been an increase importance in ability for a quarterback to scramble and have the ability to run in the NFL. However the eagles have always been ahead of that curve as they’ve had mcnabb, Vick, wentz and hurts. Even Jeff Garcia and kolb could before his concussions. Only times they don’t were Foles and when chip went Sammy sleeves. Imo that’s an evaluation of your quarterback and what you need out of your quarterback. I view that as there is a greater importance of what teams need out of the quarterback position.

the year the 49ers made Super Bowl were a top five passing offense. The 2 years in this 3 year window they didn’t make the Super Bowl they weren’t in the top 10 passing but rushing was. So I’d argue to the niners the greater importance was getting their passing game to where it needed to be to get there. But their rushing was good.

The Buffalo Bills those years were also in the top 10 for passing. Josh Allen could run from the time he got in the league the biggest question Was would he ever become the passer that he was capable of being. So I argue the greater importance to the Buffalo Bills over the last several years has been the development of Josh Allen’s ability to throw the ball that makes them a contender.

The lions biggest jump was from 2021 to 2022-2024. What happened? both passing and running jumped into the top 10 and passing consistently top 3 past two years. To me, the lions are the team that Jared Goff needed to be the quarterback that they got most out of him but they knew the importance of the running. To me they had just as great of importance of Goff living up to his potential as a passer and the running game being what it is to help him out. I think it’s equal on that one.

also when you comment you said what the ravens have done with Henry. So what was the greater importance to the Baltimore Ravens over the past year, Lamar Jackson learning how to be a top passer or them finishing once again as a top five rushing team again but this time with Henry? I’d argue Lamar as a passer is far more Of importance to them as it’s what’s cost them multiple times in the playoffs. In general with the ravens I kind of think they’ve had an organizational belief about running the ball going all the way back to when they won the first Super Bowl, with Jamal Lewis. So this isn’t anything new with them having a great importance of running the football. The organization has been structured like that for years.

What is it you keep missing when I (and others) say we still agree the passing game is very important? There isn’t any question about that. We all agree. We are discussing whether or not importance of the running game in the NFL is increasing or not.

The eagles offense IS vanilla on purpose.  It’s vanilla because Hurts turns the ball over at an unacceptable rate when it’s not.  When they run a vanilla offense, they can protect the football and get away with it because of their dominant running game.  It’s that simple.

It's so obvious too. It's why we are not seeing Brown and Smith as involved. It's why everything changed when Hurts went down and we couldn't run the same offense which is when Smith and Brown had great games with our backups.

McKee should be our backup in 2025, even if that means trading Pickett. I'm frankly disappointed Pickett is our backup now.

Let's hope.

Just realizing, if the Rams beat us and the Lions hold their ground, the Stafford lead Rams go to Detroit. With the storyline of the fires and Stafford going back to Detroit in the championship game, I could see the NFL higher ups pushing them. Hopefully I'm overthinking.

Ita been forever since Stafford left Detroit and he's won a super bowl since then. That storyline would suck, the fires one i can see being forced similar to when the saints won after Katrina except that team was actually good

For certain teams it’s been the same as it has been. for instance Shanahan’s offense has always been predicated on running the ball so how did it increase importance for the niners over the years with Shanahan? It didn’t.  If anything their passing game has increased in importance as it’s been their biggest issue under him. I would actually argue there’s some teams in the league that have decreased the value of the running game over the years to try to increase the importance of the passing game.

Hopefully the Eagles have other OC's lined up in case Moore gets poached. Don't want this to be a situation where no OCs are left out there who are good and the Eagles end up promoting Patullo or something. Would love Klint Kubiak here is Moore goes to Dallas.

Here is the link below.  Look to the columns in pink on the far right.  You can select whether you want to see cap implications based on both timing and also cut/trade.  I'm assuming they have factored the options into the numbers based on the timing.  In the screenshot I've selected the cut option in the post-June 1 period.

Those numbers are the same as the ones Spotrac has.  What they don’t explicitly answer is whether it is a release or trade prior to the Option Bonus strike date that is procedurally designated as a Post June 1 Release even though it actually took place in Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Like I said, look at the best teams the last 3-4 years.  Bills/Ravens/Eagles/Lions/49ers all run the ball a ton.  Only the Chiefs have stuck to the pass first mentality.

Well, I think the window is the post June 1 time frame in 2026 worst case.

It’s not like Moore would need to spend any time preparing for that interview.

”Are you interested?”

”Yes/No/Maybe”.  "What are you paying”

”Who are you bringing on your staff”

”Qualified people.  Good chat; let me know”

What is this, the 3rd or 4th request? Feel like he's leaving. Dallas isn't actually a bad gig compared to the bottom feeders of the league, their biggest problem is they just committed to Mr Regular Season forever.

Hurray for another year of "we haven't had the same coordinator 2 years in a row since steichen".

I think that is much easier say this than have it play out that way. The Titans learned this twice when they had two 2000 yard rushers the following year one of them got hurt and the other one wasn’t nearly as effective (still good just not what it was the previous year) and their running game dropped from 2 to 17th.

The real question I have regarding the drop off in rushing attack is more about the impact on the OL.  There's no question that that much running impacts the OL as well, and I wonder if they are as effective the following year themselves.   This is a relatively young OL, so that might be less of an issue.  Johnson may be the one with the greatest delta in his game, Mailata is right in the prime of his career... but the other 3 are all just entering the prime, so they should be ok, unless there is something to the cumulative effect from year to year.

What I hear you saying, and please correct me if I am wrong. Is that running plays produce more wear and tear on the O-Line than passing plays do.  Am I hearing you correctly?

I will defer to @just relax on whether that is the case.  I’ve always been of the belief that running plays, where the players fire out and lay the hits on the Defense are less wear and tear than passing plays where the Defense gets to lay the hits on them.

The interesting part will be whether Moore declines the interview or not.  McCarthy might have been the one who fired him, but doubtlessly Jerry signed off on it.  What’s the commitment level of the organization gonna be to me if I’ve been fired there once already?

It wouldn’t be a job I’d be interested in.

The Buffalo Bills before Josh Allen got there had the number 1 rushing team in the nfl in 2016 and in 2017 they were top 5. So nfl how did they increase the importance of the running game? It was always important to them. Id argue it hasn’t increased in importance.

30. Philadelphia Eagles: JT Tuimoloau, Edge, Ohio State

With Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham possibly moving on, the Eagles will be looking for reinforcements on the edges this offseason. Tuimoloau (6-4, 270) is a smart, alert player who plays the run well and also can get after the quarterback. In three College Football Playoff games this year, he has combined for 17 total pressures.

62. Philadelphia Eagles: Grey Zabel, G/C, North Dakota State

For the 5th or 6th time, by the fact that the best teams now rush very successfully in the top 10.  The league is a copy cat league.  Same as it ever was.

note: Those '16 Bills were 7-9 and the '17 Bills were 9-7.  It wasn't time back then.  It is now.
