I thought Jake was a huge liability going into the postseason, jury is still out on for next two games if we win today, but there’s no way we win this without him today.

And guess why the game was close enough for him to matter.

I focused on Dotson a lot while at the game today. Without knowing the progressions, play call, reads, etc I can’t say anything other than he was open a lot. He is not as bad as his production and I think he showed that in the Giants game with McKee at QB.

FINAL FOUR

Like Mike Schmidt said. "The thrill of victory and … ". Well, you know the rest.

They just ran a few seconds of the J Hurts postgame presser here on the local news...

He looks like he is headed over to the Huxtables for dinner with Denise after the game.🤣

Oh God...Jason Witten has won two straight state titles in the TAPPS (private school division, high school here in Texas) as their HC. Jerry actually interviewed him for the HC position...God help me.

Agreed. I’m almost to the point where it annoys me when people say he was even decent.  He was atrocious in the 2nd half today.  He’s a $250 mil QB and he is clueless with his decision making.

Yeah, the money is the part that really kills me. If he was some $6.5 million per year guy, whatever!

But he’s taking up a huge chunk of the salary cap with that contract, but he’s playing like a backup game manager.

It’s beyond complaining about at this point. This deep in the race, it’s just survive and advance. I don’t think there is anyone on here saying that Hurts is playing great football other than not turning it over. The backbone and identity of this team all year long has been Saquon and the defense. It’s the reason why they’ve won 16 games and if they’re going to win two more they are going to be that reason. Not Hurts.

They’re trying to buck an historical trend right now with getting little to nothing from your quarterback and winning a Super Bowl. But we’ve seen weirder things happen so just let it ride.

We’ll have the whole offseason to complain about Hurts.

Some misc non QB thoughts, mostly defense…

- I thought Burks was very good for a backup stepping in.

- Nolan Smith has become a revelation.  It’s not even just the splash plays that are stuffing the stat sheet.  He’s a menace routinely now.  I’ve never seen a player go from so lost to the light turning on so explosively and brightly before.

- Jalyx Hunt…he was excellent.  I am legitimately OK with going into next season with Smith, Hunt, and some premium draft picks (maybe one cheap vet for the rotation too).

- Not much to say about Carter that hasn’t already been said…but he’s special.

- Rodgers was quite good in coverage.  Whereas Q is the total package, Rodgers can stick in coverage but does struggle with playing the ball to finish the play.

- DBs are db’s for a reason.  I do think we make too much of the woulda coulda shoulda INTs.  All of them were at least modestly challenging balls to bring in.  No one was dropping stuff that hit them in the chest.

- If we ran a normal offense, the margin between Becton and Steen is probably tight enough to save the $$$.  But we don’t run a normal offense.  Becton even had a couple well-noted screw ups today.  But his impact on at least 3 of the long TD runs was highlight reel worthy…as in, we may not score those TDs and win this game without his role in those plays.  I don’t know that we can sustainably run this offense of ours without him blowing holes open at RG.

- Dunno what to make of Jake Elliott.  He had some gutsy FGs in the elements…but the missed XPs, one of which was before the weather even turned, were so ugly.  No one would have faulted any NFL kicker for missing the 44 yarder today, which he made.  So you could sort of argue that covers him for the -2 on the XPs, but still, this is a bad situation.

- I said before the game that the team that wins the fumble battle wins the game…and the Eagles won that in a big way.  The Eagles put the ball on the ground twice by my recollection, one DeJean muffed punt, one Hurts fumble, and kept both.  Scooping up 2 fumbles in our favor was technically the entire difference in the game.

- Barkley.  Not much to say that hasn’t been said.

Actually if you look at the cap numbers his contract is fairly manageable with the rate QBs are getting right now. I think he is under contract (non-voidable) through 2028, but even those years/terms aren't as bad as another team I know very well.  The way you guys are built you could move on take the one time hit and not miss a beat. I wouldn't recommend it, and if it were done it would need to be a post june move. Based on the way QBs are getting paid, his contract makes him tradeable really...

Again, I am not saying that is what should happen. He is part of that locker room and that team, a team leader. Moving on from him would likely create a lot of unecessary drama and tension with leadership. The Eagles are winning, they really just need him to get better to justify the contract.

This neglects to mention that the Bills had 126 net yards passing and the Eagles had 65 net yards passing.

2000 Ravens formula. Don't think Dilfer ever went above 200 yards in the playoffs

Interestingly, they won the SB with him and he was gone the next year.  Didn’t even get a starting job in the NFL the next year.

And that’s who Hurts is being compared to.

For the total comparison, our defense is not as good as that 2000 Ravens D and it’s not close.  But our offensive line and offensive weapons are much better.

In order I want Chiefs, Bills, then Ravens.  Assuming we beat Commies which is not a given at this point.

I believe the Bills take care of the Chiefs, and we beat the Bills. IF we can get past Washington next week. Its lined up so nice for us.

I’m not a big Matt Stafford guy, and today I thought he was rather meh — but you could see a stark difference between one QB who could read and go through his progressions and the other QB who looks as though he just can’t understand or see his reads at all.  The frustrating thing about watching Hurts today is that he shouldn’t need any coaches telling him to get the ball out.  The Rams got 9 sacks last week; the first priority in the pass game should have been "see it and throw it”.  Instead he was largely responsible for letting the Rams hang around.

I can’t imagine there’s ever been an NFL game where an offensive line blocked for a 200 yard RB day, yet also allowed 7 sacks on the QB.  At least 3-4 of those sacks were on Hurts, and he took the Eagles out of FG position twice (okay, possible FGs) while also giving up a safety.  If this game had been on the road, Hurts and Elliott would have been required to purchase tickets to get back home.

The Eagles have two more games to win — the great news is one of those games is at home against a #6 seed — and they need to carry Hurts on their backs to get there.  Hurts is a passenger right now; the Eagles are winning in spite of him, like the Broncos did with Peyton Manning in 2015.

Agree with all this. I think the one thing the defense has to clean up from this game is big plays. Rams had plays of 48, 37,30, 30, 21, 20, 20. The commanders really thrive on big plays like that. Particularly mclaurin and Daniels running.

Just want to reiterate the appalling nature of this statistic.  Thrash and Pinkston were the Eagles starting WRs for three playoff games for the Eagles in 2001, two in 2002, and two in 2003.  We know their story.

The AJ Brown / Smith duo, through 2 playoff games in the 2024 playoffs, has been less productive than Thrash and Pinkston were in any 2 game stretch of their playoff appearances…and it’s not close.

Best crowd I have been a part of. Ive criticized the crowd before for ONLY getting loud on 3rd downs, and often waiting too late till the play was called and the team was lined up to get loud.

Today most of the stadium seemed to be standing up most of the time. They were loud on every down. Not just 3rd.

I think it was a better atmosphere than the NFCCG against the 49ers.

Before the season started, I said that the Eagles will either fail…and can keep Kellen Moore…but all the coaches get fired anyway…or they will succeed and Kellen Moore will leave while they have to transition at OC yet again.  I said it was guaranteed to be a 1 year job either way.

And somehow, the Eagles may have found that nearly impossible target where it’s a successful year but Moore will not get HC offers.  Might actually be the OC next year.

Each game he Brown beat the defender deep too. One a drop and one a bad throw.

Yeah, I think ours is more like legion of boom territory when they play their game. I dunno. I think the Hurts stans have become a bit delusional at this point. For all the people that argued Sirianni is being propped up by his talent over the course of the year, I feel that's way way more true for Jalen Hurts. He basically doesn't even try to put games away anymore, he basically just goes 'the defense has it'. The problem is, they eventually might not.
