EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

When I saw the first play of the game was a quick half-roll, deliver the ball quickly to Goedert I was encouraged.  That didn't last long.  That play needs to be a staple of the offense; just vary the look and the target, but the play is easy and it works.

I said it last night -- there was absolutely no excuse for Hurts to be holding the ball so long considering the DL he was up against.  IMO, Hurts is becoming a little bit more dysfunctional each week.  He's riding in on fumes, figuratively and literally.

Ryan Leaf already picked the Commanders to win this Sunday, which made me feel better because he's an idiot.

Agree 100% considering the strength of the Rams pass rush and mediocre pass protection from our OL recently.

That said, Washington's pass rush isn't nearly as good, so that could be a better spot for longer developing pass plays.

Especially if they load the box on Saquon, like they did against Pickett after Hurts went down against them last time.

Just keep Williams.

He’s an absolute beast and hasn’t even hit his prime yet. Unreal.

I'm with the people saying let Sweat walk. He hasn't done much of anything. Same with MB. Either he comes cheap or he can walk as well. Williams and ZB need to stay.

I feel bad for Washington, they're not gonna have a fun time with this dude next week.

Especially since Cosmi is out

Just about everything going against them.

The Eagles? What did they have going against them besides a late Hurts injury?

Won the turnover battle and had fortunate bounces when the Rams fumbled and also recovered their own fumble.

Won TOP.

Won in penalties.

Had more drives than Rams.

Had better third and fourth down efficiency

Clearly had the better run game.

Been a huge Isiah fan since they picked him up. I talked some stuff when emotions were high and he got that INT ripped away but he really did give them a good game. That scoop and return was a huge moment in the game.

I did too, he had another play against him where he was right on the receiver and it still went for a completion. But his coverage was still good on both plays, he just has some bad luck I think. I can't see plays like that happening all the time if he has the same tight coverage.

Yeah but instead of having perspective, wouldn't it be more fun to hate-watch your favorite team play in a second super bowl in 3 years because you don't like the QB?

These peeps will never see what he can do. Only what he can't. We can win with him. Ironically, don't think you can win with likely 3 time MVP, Lamar. Just needs to keep doing what he's doing. We good.

Feels spot on by Ray.

In all fairness, Hurts struggles at times with quick throws.  Issue is 2 fold: if first option not open what then?  Also, sometimes he doesn't throw it when open.

Moving on to the Redskins. In the last game, before Hurts got hurt, the Eagles were running the ball at will.

Oddly enough, the two players who worry me the most are rookies. Jayden Daniels and Mike Sainristil. Contain Daniels, don't let Sainristil make a big play oh and don't let Frankie Luvu hurt anyone.

You know based off the last two games this is going to be chippy as hell. I wouldn't even be mad if Mailata or anyone on the O-line drove Luvu straight into the turf and got 15 for it early on. Set the tone.

You can always tell who doesn't know ball when complaining about the ball placement of a back shoulder fade to AJ.

It was accidental! Hurts doesn't ever throw back shoulders.  And when the WR has a step no one should

You mention drops for Hurts but not Stafford. So dishonest.

Pay attention to my follow up post.

Hurts also wasn't playing from behind either.  Josh Allen's passing stats also weren't impressive and yet they won.

It's an odd thing but every incompletion that Hurts had was when he targeted AJ. Seven targets, five incompletes. Of those five, two were thrown away, two were dropped, and on the third he was hit as he threw (the incompletion in the left corner of the end zone when AJ was doubled covered. The two completions were clutch first downs.

That was a great ball to AJ that he flat out dropped

Go watch the play again. I’m sure Brown would tell you the same thing.  The ball hit him in the chest. He should have made that catch.

Was never going to be a TD with the ball placement causing AJ to land out of bounds.

I know people are going to 100% take this the wrong way. But the number one thing I find myself shouting at the TV about with hurts is throwing the ball away. When it’s not there, don’t just continuously hold it every time. It’s ok to just throw it away and not lose yards. This is the nearly the same thing I found myself saying in 2018 and 2019 with Carson wentz. He would also hold on the ball too long instead of just throwing it away and living to play another down and not taking a loss.

To me with the type of pass rush the rams have, it’s better to just  throw it away cause they’ll will get you and the loss of yardage hurt you multiple times.

Don't know if injury was "late"  Happened with about 19 minutes left in a tight game.

The kickers issues.

A.J Brown and Devanta drops.

People are super unreasonable thinking that this is all on Hurts. In a freaking snow storm and a twisted knee at crunch time. Glad he held on to the ball and contributed. I give him a B again. Considering everything.

Agree.  If Hurts is going to be a game manager, part of that is not taking sacks in high-leverage situations like in FG range or in his own end zone.

AJ is a big personality and can be kinda weird sometimes. I think that's why he gets lumped into that diva WR category, but it's dumb. He's not selfish at all. Seems like a good teammate.

We've been thru this discussion he isn't causing any cap issues this year or next (very low) after which he can be traded or let go with a relatively acceptable cap hit.

He’s got a $21M cap hit next year. When we lose Baun, Williams, Sweat or Becton this offseason, remind yourself that Hurts’ cap hit doesn’t matter.

Moore is the frontrunner

It was utterly intentional and the inside placement wasn't open.  Should be pretty basic for a doctor of physical therapy to understand.

You mentioned the drops for one, but not the other.  Sort of disingenuous.  Either mention them for both, or ignore them for both.

Hurts didn't exactly have 'pass accuracy' either.  Some of the drops were due to the ball being in a bad spot and the WR having to adjust to it, which is much harder to do with poor footing.  A completed pass isn't always an 'accurate' pass.  Just sayin'.

Mark Andrews can attest to that.

That puts him 18th for QBs.  Pretty much right where you'd expect him to be.  Plus he's probably going to drop a couple of spots most likely when Purdy and Donald get contracts.

Washington's run defense has gotten better the last month, but the Lions kinda had their way with it, so I think the Eagles can get them

Can the Eagles beat the conspiracy theory? There's an awful lot of red in that logo, and the words "Super Bowl" appear to be in a darker, maroon-like red.
