Rules folks, if Goedert had caught that screen behind the LOS would that eliminate any potential illegal man downfield? I saw someone blame Goedert for that reason, saying he should have stayed behind the LOS.

Yea, there is no illegal man downfield if the pass doesn't cross the LOS.

Every week I hear about the "blueprint" to shutting us down is to load the box and force Hurts to beat you. Somehow it hasn't panned out for the other team though. So if you're right, everyone in the league knows how to stop the offense but they just decide not to. Maybe they'll decide to stop us next week, we'll just have to see I guess!

Stacking the box still doesn't stop the running game because it is so dominant.  In fact, it's actually facilitating some of Barkley's ultra long runs.  He has essentially become our deep threat.

Hurts is immaterial to all of this.  They are forcing Hurts to beat them...and the running game is so dominant it's not reaching that point because they still aren't stopping it.  If they actually did force Hurts to beat them, we'd be losing.

Hurts is our best option right now and probably at least one more season, but he needs to be better. The Skins are playing very well and confident, especially on offense. Hurts can’t be taking 7 sacks and they need to get Brown and Smith the ball early.

They need to work short to intermediate early. For whatever reason Hurts has a hard time seeing guys wide open on drag routes.

There's OROY and DROY.

Mitchell still probably wont get DROY but it will be much closer.

I'll be posting my awards later with its own thread. Those are the only awards that matter.

I don’t think this matches what teams are actually doing.

Becton was slamming his helmet after the play so I think it was on him.  But that's a very good note, because that play was there for sure.

I don't think it matters where the receiver is, just that it's a forward pass.

No one is saying to hop in a time machine and cut Hurts in August 2024.  $13.5m hit is nice and, as you said, enables us to have Barkley.

22/32/42 are his hits in the next 3 years.  And he's not close to worth that.

But again..what's the alternative?  I agree that there are problems with that.  I hate this QB draft and the window doesn't reliably open on even a great prospect until too late for this win-now team.  So throw that out there.  Banking on a Darnold/Mayfield situation...not likely.  I'd kick the tires on a few more prototypical talents who are infamously under fire right now...all of whom as getting strangulated on awful teams (Lawrence and Herbert).  That will almost certainly go no where, but tire kicking is free.

Honestly, the only way we end up with a QB upgrade is if Mckee is that guy, Hurts gets injured, their hand is forced to start Mckee for an extended period of time, and he never gives the job back.  I've been a Mckee fan since before the Eagles drafted him, think he has some great ingredients, and think he *could* be that guy.  But even I would never bet my own money or job security on it.  But that sequence is the only remotely conceivable scenario or pathway to a QB upgrade in the next 2 years.  So I would give Mckee a long look in camp.  I don't think anyone in that actual position, myself included, would have a big enough pair to actually risk their reputation and make that change after camp next year.  But I'd still give each a long look.

Definitely agree with everything here. McKee would be nice, they could have him on his rookie deal and since he has such little playing time an extension would be quite modest.

This is mostly why I've just accepted Hurts for what he is. He's not going to be the reason the team wins, but if he can limit turnovers and make a couple throws a game, that might be enough with how good the rest of the team is. It's the playoffs, you win any way you can at this point.

The Eagles will have Hurts on the roster next season, but after that Howie has some room to work his magic.

It's really just him and Jared Verse odds wise. Verse probably wins, Mitchell runner up.

I'm guessing if Q had an extra 3-4 picks he would have been right there.  No worries though, he's had an exceptional season and is the best rookie CB we've likely ever had (in terms of first year performance)  If I remember correctly, Lito Sheppard was really good (and became an pro bowler here)  but I don't think he played as much or at the level Q has played during his rookie year.

If Cooper DeJean continues to shine, this draft class could become our "Lito Sheppard & Sheldon Brown" draft class of this era.  The future looks bright at CB.

Yea, even with the rule I would still put the bulk of the blame on Becton over Goedert. Becton like sprinted downfield immediately. If he hesitated a little bit and was 2,3ish yards passed the LOS instead of 7 or 8, the refs might let it slide.

When that nfl films music hits  also dickerson’s brief cameo is amazing

As much as Hurts has his flaws as a passer, I thought there was a strong possibility that if Moore came back next year as OC that the offense might open up some more and Hurts might be more comfortable in it, like in year 2 under Steichen.

If Moore leaves then it's gonna be OC  number 4 in 5 years for Hurts.

Wait @HazletonEagle thinks that the constant turnstile at OC is an advantage for Hurts...... how could this be?!

That and he needs to know where his checkdown is and get the ball out.

Do they have practices anymore during the week? What are they doing? Does Sirirani just watch Hurts hold the ball 10 seconds a snap for an hour practice and then say "great practice! guys"? I'd make him get the ball out in 2.5 seconds for an entire hour. Everyday. Every time he missed one the clock would start over again and nobody leaves the field until it's completed. What the hell do they do during the week? There's been literally no improvement in this area at all minus the start of games for a small moment.

Going back to this

I feel like if Hurts just got the ball out quicker it would solve a lot of problems. Kind of baffling that they allow him to hold the ball for 3+ seconds

After next season (post June) I think moving on from  Hurts is around a 49 million cap hit.  That said, if this team goes as far as we all think and want them to go this season, he isn't going anywhere unless he wants to.

Agreed.

And on a similar note: lost in the shuffle is that the refs actually did a pretty good job and let the teams decide it on the field.  6 total penalties (3 for each) on a total of 131 plays.

And that is also something to keep in mind for next week as the Commanders will surely hold the F out of our DL

That too. I thought he did a good job in the Packers game on that check to Goedert before the snap (even though the throw could have been better)

They were both deadlocked in December. I think Mitchell even was a slight favorite at one point, even without any INT's all year. He was great all year but towards the end had the slightest step back which is what probably cost him the award.

I was fine with every call, review, overturn they made. The goal line overturn TD was the closest but I still think it was the correct call.

The DeVonta Smith hit was BS, but still the letter of the law the way the rules are written. Something they should probably change if they are so concerned about player safety.

Brown is paid to catch and hold onto those throws. It was a F up by him

When he’s targeted <5 times a game and his QB has no clue how to throw to an elite receiver like him, I’ll give Devonta the benefit of the doubt on that drop, especially because he got smashed in the head.

Another thing I noticed yesterday is that during almost every commercial break, Jake was on the field practicing his kicking motion. He looks like a golfer who lost his swing trying to find it again. Scary stuff and the missed XPs have gotten out of control.

well, Mann was doing it too. And occasionally I noticed the STL punter. I think they just wanted to continue to monitor the footing out there.

Gotdamn poetry in motion. Unbelievable cinematography. Wow.

Enjoy these moments for all their worth, only 4 teams left and we're one of them thanks to plays like this.

They need to maybe implement an end around or something to get the ball in AJ’s hands early

I thought that too until earlier this season or last when I looked it up and I recall reading it just needs to be a forward pass.
