EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Today on the Dan Patrick Show, Dan highlighted the difference between the four winners this weekend and the four losers ... all four winners had no turnovers. He believes, and I agree that there is a lesson there.

I agree.  The lesson seems to be to not watch the Dan Patrick show.  Winning the turnover battle has been a staple of winning in the playoffs (or football in general) for generations, not some massive revelation.

bunch of things...

1. Hurts has strung together a few consecutive good drives together many times before, and then proceeded to suck the rest of the game. He may well have stayed in the Washington game and ended up losing. Just because he started ok doesnt mean he would finish OK. We have seen that many times.

2. Jalen Hurts has had a bad year, but there have been ups and downs. He has had better gams than the last 2 that he just played. He may have had a better game against Washington, and the team may have won. That doesnt mean he was going to play great, or even good. He may have just been ok. Doesnt mean he isnt still the anchor holding this team back from greater success. We are pretty much at an all time low for Hurts performances these last 2 games. I thought for sure he was going to bounce back after last week but he only got worse.

3. Pickett had no practice that week. He started slow and improved a bit as the game went on. With a week of practice as the starter, he looked better. He may well have been good enough to win the game if he wasnt coming in cold. Doesnt mean Hurts is any good.

The Hurts hate  is just overdone here. Wouldn't call it a bad year. They got Saquon and that changed things here and hes rolling with it. I give him credit for that. Okay, he's overpaid. Not by much though. #9 on the list.  Probably be middle of pack in 2 years. No one claims he's Joe Montana. He's not a perfect quarterback. But we can win with him. And not in spite of him. He makes enough WINNING plays in a game to win. That's all I care about. Two more to go here. Just hope he can be mobile enough the rest of the way.

Who are most of these people not working? Not everyone gets federal holidays, actually most dont

I didn't go to work today... although I did just work the clock at 4 consecutive basketball games instead.  6 hours of HS basketball.  It was basically like a day of work.

Boring. Do you ever have anything else on your mind? You contribute nothing with this one-note drivel.

The lack of hype for the National Championship Game is alarming. Is there too much time between all the bowl games? Bowl season in general seemed to lack much hype. I guess it's just a different college football world. The BCS bowl season seemed to be much more exciting.

It's because we are right in the main part of the NFL playoffs.

That is king as far as what people and analysts are talking about.

And also because not many are giving Notre Dame a chance.

When you have 4 games you can just flip the switch starting and stopping the time. You really have to work the clock. As in, let a few seconds tick off here and there. Start it as soon as the inbound pass is thrown rather than when it is touched.  Shorten the half times. Shorten the time outs just a bit. Every second, every minute counts.

Nothing grates my gears like the clock person waiting like 2 minutes to even start the half time countdown. Stuff like that. You gotta be on it.

I've had better days.  But at least my wife was annoyed that I spent our day off together by not being with her... at all.  Did I mention she also hates basketball?   Yeah... great day!

Seriously though, she didn't get mad.  She just gave me the disappointed face.    I hate that face.  It would be better if she got mad and yelled.

How about my notes on high school basketball clock operating?

.  I am very good about not shaving the time, but the halftime clock starts about 15 seconds after the horn.  It would be less than that, but I think anything faster than that would be disrespectful.

Alright, real talk for a second.  Hurts haters, set it aside.  Hurts humpers, set it aside,

1.  Hurts haters accept that a Jalen Hurts healthy to play but not healthy enough to run is still going to get the start.

2.  Hurts humpers accept that it is very difficult to win an NFL football game against anyone with a Jalen Hurts that cannot run.

So how do we get around that?

1. Pray that he can run.

2.  Howie needs to get involved.  Siri doesn’t have the mandate.  They need to have a quick hook.  For the humpers, it’s more about the injury than anything else, not "benching.”  But they need an honest and constant evaluation of whether or not he’s viable with that knee.  They can beat the Commanders with a backup qb if they have to.  They can’t do it with a 50% Hurts.

We have a winning QB because we have Saquan. You silly goose

Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

Having his name misspelled is absolutely the highest level of respect to be garnered on the EMB.  And if the EMB is a microcosm of the real world, how much more when ESPN does it?!

Washington has the best offense left in the playoffs.

They will be more of a challenge for our defense than either KC or Buffalo.

We get by them and I like our chances to get #2.

What does it say about the Moore game plan and the playes' execution of that game plan?

I think your definition of disingenuousness is self navigating.  But, I'll cop to enjoying your trolling at times because I have a lot of respect for PTs.  Deep down inside of you is a good person who doesn't ride the coattails of talented Orthopedic surgeons the way Hurts does the Eagles roster.

That you ride the best player in the NFL until his legs fall off and you will win, unless your QB screws it up, so don't let him do anything... except run the ball.

Spanish version always spot on…. Hasta la casa

Fair enough, but it will be a very last minute transaction if it happens.  Gates is the insurance Center.

Yep, 100%. Emergency centre is only relevant if Jurgens or Toth get injured ahead of SB, otherwise he'd is inactive for SB gameday.

We have clearly had Jurgens, Driscol (I know he is injured now) and now Toth ahead of him as the gameday emergency centre this year. Hell, if Jurgens was out for the big game, I'm not sure Stout doesnt put Dickerson at that spot and insert Steen at LG.
