I think Hurts’ arm strength is satisfactory. The issue is, and always has been, his processing abilities or lack there of. It’s one read and then run or freeze.

Yeah, it's one thing if you want to spend the time to break down individual plays and say he missed a read here, or should've checked it down there, but to make a blanket statement on arm stength and act like he can't make throws or they're getting picked off on Outs or Corner routes because of it floating is just lazy and dumb.

Here's the combine velocity measurements and Hurts is at 54mph with guys like Herbert, Love, and Mahomes at 54/55mph themselves and nobody is questioning their arm strength for some reason.

Oh come on, you get the point.  On that throw, even at the time, I give him plenty of credit for taking the time the OL gave him and hitting Dotson, who was not his first read, probably not his second.

But he took two steps into the throw and it was hardly a laser.  If we are having a discussion that his arm strength is an issue and THAT is exhibit A to contradict it, out of every throw he's made in the playoffs...then I'm unconvinced.  There is no QB currently collecting an NFL paycheck that cannot step into that throw.

You're unconvinced because you don't understand what you're watching and you have no data to back up your argument, just feelings.

Let's be honest about the Rams game. The Eagles beat a good Rams team who outside of 3 big TD runs, kind of shut the Eagles down. The Eagles lived by the big play on offense, and clutch plays on defense.

On offense, they gave up 7 sacks, went 0-2 in the RZ, missed 2 XP and gave up a safety. 4 points given away by the offense.

They ran 63 plays.

-3 TD runs totaled 184 yards.

-the other 60 plays netted162 yards, averaging 2.7 yards per play.

-Saquon also only averaged 2.7 ypc on the non TD runs. 24 carries for 65 yards.

On defense, they were outgained by the Rams by 50 yards, gave up 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and nearly a 100 yard WR. However, the Eagles forced 2 fumbles and made the big plays when it mattered.

I'd say overall, the Eagles played a C+ game in crappy weather and still came away with the win.

The Redskins are not as good as the Rams. The field and weather will be night and day compared to the Rams game. If Jalen Hurts is good to go and the Eagles play just B level football, they should have no problem winning this game.

If you take out the sacks and the negative yardage, we averaged 4.2 (225/53) yards on the non-explosives.

We didn't turn the ball over.  They did.

We had Barley and Carter.  They didn't.

The ole "aside from that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?"

yeah that too 😂

Gameplan-wise:

On defense, I'd never bring more than 4.  Hell, on passing downs, I'd try 3 with some stunts and twists or maybe bring a LB from the edge.  Mix it up and take advantage of the substitute OL.  If you rush three you could even spy Daniels which I think would be effective because he's going to look to bail early and often.

On offense, I'd look at Smitty, Goedert, and the RBs for the splash plays.   IMO AJ is definitely hurt, so I'd let him take up coverage and just wear out the 1 on 1s elsewhere.  They have Allen back now so I'd try the edges and see if they can contain our RBs in space.

Before finding this place I would read stuff on Reddit as well and I’ve never seen anyone say Hurts arm strength is a problem. It’s not Vick’s arm or anything but I’ve never thought "wow I wish his arm was better” either.

I’ve thought "how in the world did he not see that guy?” or "oh my goodness why did he freeze like that?” but I think his arm is fine.

They’ll have to pick their poison — stack the box and allow long TD runs, or play two-high safety and have the Eagles march and burn clock

yep

Commanders prolly gonna be the toughest matchup so far in the postseason, the division rival factor and all that and the fact that the defense doesn't seem to do well against QB runs (geriatric ass Stafford nearly ran for a first down on them).  Was hoping to avoid them but it is what it is.

I think people way over blow the Kenny Picket game in DC and that it’ll look more like the first meeting at the Linc. Eagles are better almost everywhere.

They definitely have to have a plan for Daniels legs though.

Eagles were better almost everywhere than the Rams and they were 13 yards away from winning the game (thank God for Jalen Carter), it's not always about who's better (especially true when it comes to division rival games).

Oddly enough, I feel better about this matchup because we lost to them the last time around. We simultaneously know we can beat them (game 1) and feel slighted from week 2. Good combo of confidence and vengeance.

And if you can't appreciate the difference between Hurts and every other QB in the playoffs with respect to their ability to get the football downfield without taking 2 steps into it, then I don't know what to tell you.  Here you are quoting combine velocity to compare Hurts to Mahomes, Herbert, and Love.  If you are comparing Hurts' arm strength to them, then you are the one that doesn't know what they are actually watching.

Well the Eagles are better and they won so I don’t know. I don’t think the Commanders are that good. I know a lot of people disagree. I think they’ve been very lucky and it’s about to run out.

Yeah, that much has been obvious for a while, bud.

Agree. It also broke up a huge winning streak and it’s good to get the loss out of the way on one of those before the playoffs. 😂

It seems they love to let us sweat a little at home this year.  I think only the Cowboys game was a blowout, everything else not so much.  Yet we are a easy Saquon catch away from being undefeated at Home.   But the last three Home NFC Title Games felt like a breeze, no stress at all.    We got up early on the Falcons and never let off the gas.  After that pick on the Vikings, we slaughtered them.   Defense completely took over the 49ers game.    If we can get to a quick lead, and Defense takes over.  I think it can be another dominating performance.  Before Jalen went down, the Eagles were dominating Washington.  Saquon had 100 yards in the 1st Quarter.  We put up 21 points.   Remember the Defense got 5 Turnovers.  Pickett came in cold and held it together but it was way to many FG's. If Jalen played one of those turnovers would have been a TD.   Despite that, Smitty makes the catch and the Eagles are 15-0 right now going into the NFC Championship.

Most interestingly for me, is that folks were worried about going to Detroit for the playoffs this year, and yet, their only 2 regular season losses were at home.  They were undefeated on the road.   The Eagles lone loss at home was a game that they absolutely should have won against the Falcons back in September, but with a limited cast offensively, and before they found their footing defensively and coming off the Brazil fiasco.    This is a very different home vs. away team.

At home, the Eagles have surrendered 22 (in a loss), 16, 23, 18 (Commanders with a banged up Daniels), 16, 13, 7 and 13.    That's an average of just 16 points per game.

Commanders, on the road, 20, 38, 42, 23, 27, 18, 20, 23.  23 and 45 in the playoffs.

26 points per game in the regular season, 28 points per game if you count the playoffs.

So, the Eagles need to hit 28 points, and hold Washington to their defensive average at home, and this could be a relatively comfortable win.  But the key will be keeping Daniels from extending plays.  That's the biggest wild card going into this game.  Don't let him beat you with his legs to extend plays.

On the road, the Commanders have surrendered: 37, 33, 14, 30, 22, 26 (Eagles), 19, 19. (Average 25 ppg)

At home, the Eagles have scored: 21, 20, 28, 26, 22, 27, 41, 20. (Average 25.6 ppg)

The plan should be relatively simple... control the ball with the running game, do enough in the passing game to keep Washington honest and protect the football.  Defensively, be smart on 3rd downs to get Washington off the field... and be ready for them to go for it on 4th down every possession.   Don't think you are getting off the field just because you got a stop on 3rd down.  Don't celebrate 3rd down stops, only celebrate 4th down stops.  Keep the mental edge through the punter's foot striking the ball.

QB arm strength discussion has been tiresome for a while. Not having Josh Allen arm strength=/= noodle arm.

Yup.

Jalen's arm is average.

One of the differences between the Eagles and the Commanders is that the Eagles can win if Jalen doesn’t have a good game. If the Eagles can force Daniels to have a bad game the Commanders lose guaranteed. They have no margin for error.

Reminds me of when Vick came into the Linc after beating the Packers in GB. I’d like to see a mush rush type defense that JJ used in that game. Beat Daniels and the Commies go home.

I’ve thought "how in the world did he not see that guy?” or "oh my goodness why did he freeze like that?” but I think his arm is fine.

Hurts' arm is NFL-average.  It explains why he was drafted #53 coming out of the exact same offense as Mayfield #1 and Kyler Murray #1.  Hurts' college stats were close to as good as the other two, but both Murray and Mayfield have plus-arm strength, where that doesn't exist with Hurts.

It hasn't hindered him in the NFL; his completion percentage improves every year and he's been successful through much of his career avoiding bad INT.  As others have said, his issues are related to pre-snap reads and recognition.  The ball needs to come out faster with more decisiveness.

Eagles are a better team, if they don’t beat themselves they should win. They could beat themselves, they almost did vs the Rams, but I expect/hope they’ll be motivated to make the plays they missed vs the Rams and play their best game.

Hurt’s arm is average. Not good, but not bad.

That’s not the issue.

The issue is that he can’t go through progressions, he holds the ball too long, freezes up, and takes horrible sacks.

Hurts as a passer is one of the lesser starters in the NFL. And if he isn’t mobile enough to be a threat on the option plays, then he’s going to be a massive liability.
