Any inside move for a DE has to be coordinated with either the DT to loop around, OR be part of a blitz with Baun or DeJean coming off the edge.

This week, but not always.  One of  Smith's sacks on Love was a hard inside move with no coordination with the DTs.  This week Smith and Sweat have to stay disciplined and let Carter, Williams, Omojo work the middle and flush Daneil to them.

Watch it again...  Carter was looping around as Smith did that.  He was a little delayed in getting wide, but he absolutely took an outside path when Smith went inside.

But yes, this is referencing THIS WEEK's matchup with a highly mobile QB. You don't need to play like that against Stafford or Goff.  You do against Daniels, Love, Allen and Mahomes.

Question: does the run game coordinator design the running plays, blocking schemes, etc for the running plays that are in the weekly game plan?  Or are they teaching the concepts for the running plays designed by the OC?

In the last meeting, until CJGJ was ejected, Daniels was hesitant to throw. We just need to get him back to that (get an INT early) and actually expect him to take off on 3rd and 4th downs. Make him question his arm and don't give him confidence in his feet. He's not impossible to rattle.

Watching that, it looks to me that Carter stopped his rush, saw Love being flushed, and began pursuing.   Nonetheless,  you are correct that stunting DE/DT is necessary most of the time.

Agreed.  From what I recall if he doesn't have lanes to escape he will throw it up at times.

If Eric Allen is still fighting to get in to the HOF, there is absolutely no way Slay's name should even be talked about in regards to the HOF.

Somehow this run only gained about 10 yards I believe. There was no snow on the ground for this 1st TD run and his long off the right side was 9 yards.

Correct.  The gap closed quickly after this screenshot.  None the less, it was a great hole for Saquon to hit (queue the mom joke posters).

It's an incredible lane. OL is just so fun to watch.

How confident are you that our defense will be able to slow down/contain Daniels and Washington's offense?  They put up 36 on us last time and they've been lighting it up.  That, and at times it seems teams can cut through our D with relative ease.

One of the most important things that needs to happen on Sunday from a defensive standpoint is we need to stop the Washington run game. I’m not just talking about Daniels running, but in general. The D hasn’t been consistently shutting it down as of late and that partially has been due to bad tackling IMO. They have to stop the run first and foremost. Make them one dimensional and keep them from manageable 3rd and 4 or so. Gotta wrap up and get some stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. If we can consistently do that, it should give the D a good shot of shutting down Daniels and co.

Saquon is up for OPOY too right?  If anything I see him winning that.  I'm sure they'll give ACOY to one of the Lions coaches

VERY.

Last game, if I'm not mistaken, they scored 3 TDs after CJGJ was ejected.

-Jalen Carter is a different Jalen Carter than he was last game. His game has hit another level. He's the best player on the field. He's the best defensive player left in the playoffs and DPOY. He was playing great football before, but what we're seeing from him now is unreal. He's going against a backup RG now.

-Nolan Smith has stepped his game up. Like Carter, he is not the same player he was the last game.

What's important is they play smart, aggressive football and don't lose contain.

Yeah he’s up for that too

That to me, just looks like an inside move by Smith, not a stunt. Carter's initial move was to the A gap.

Collaborative effort with Moore, but Stout is both responsible for assignments in play design and coaching it during installs. Hard to know for sure, but if I had to guess, I'd say 80/20 split (Stout/Moore) in terms of input and final say on how any given run play looks.

I need to hear stuff like this cause I can't shake the bad feeling I have about this game.  Part of it is because I have some family and friends who are Commoders fans and the family side has been annoying with this run.

I don't know about that. He did take one of the worst defenses in the league and turned them around to the #1 spot. It was an incredible turnaround.

What the Lions did this year was great, especially on offense, but I think going from 30th or so to 1st is an amazing feat all in itself.

Don’t see how Surtain or Baun don’t get DPOY. It’s an individual award sure, but I don’t think you give DPOY to a guy on a bad defense.

Surtain the favorite especially based on name. Wouldn’t be shocked if some voters hold Jalen Carter’s presence against Baun (“He’s not even the best player on his own defense.”).

Also the Vikings OC got robbed of a nomination. Hard to parse his role vs. O’Connell’s, but come the hell on he took Sam Darnold to 14-3. The Aaron Glenn buzz is a little excessive.

I think people would be surprised how little time the players spend with the coordinators and head coach. They spend most of their time with position coaches and assistants. They get the schemes from up top but the underlings implement it normally.

I really think vic deserves it. Lions were already good last year. I guess you could argue for Glenn since he kept the defensive afloat but vic took one of the worse defenses in history to the best this year and with rookies.

I hope Baun wins defensive. They year he has had is impressive and he was playing a new position this year.
