EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Featured Replies

It is early, but given the performance of the team of late, Howie should be in the running of the GM of the season.  The FA signing: Barkley, Baun and Becton, all have contributed greatly to the team.  Draftees: Mitchell and DeJean are also playing at a high level.  They are a major haul for the team and will be the foundation of a winning team for future seasons.

Also in the conversation should be Stoutland as the Assistance Coach of the season.  He is well regarded as the OL guru, and he also has the title of run game coordinator.  The way the team is racking rushing yards, OL must be playing well and Stoutland's directing the running scheme.

My guess is that he hadn't been "officially" consulted and the referee simply assumed the Eagles wanted to decline it to force fourth down. Otherwise it makes no sense, I agree.

Same. I give Nick credit for being fast on his feet in that situation, if that's what happened. The fact that McVay really didn't seem to care was a little weird but points more to your theory.

Sirianni still sucks... but the talent overcomes stupidity.   The sequence at the end of the first half was a disgrace.  Absolutely an utter disgrace.   Oh, and the red zone offense still struggles mightily.   BUT, at least Sirianni seemed to have learned from the past and kicked the FGs early this time.

But that sequence at the end of the first half was the stupidest sequence at the end of a half I think I've ever seen.  And the final play was the cherry on top.

You didn’t watch the end of the Cowpads/Commies game yesterday I gather.

I don't want to be negative given how the past 2 months have gone but I think Howie is benefiting tremendously from the past 2 months more than he probably should. I think his offseason was still average at best. His biggest FA acquisition still has been a bust so far. His highest paid LB never played a snap for the team. Baun has been good which minimalizes the White move but Howie never had the intention of bringing Baun in to play LB so it's hard to give him tons of credit there. Dotson also has been a bad trade so far. Howies had hits but he also had his misses.

Nope.   But, I heard about it.

Lost in the Barkley performance was Hurts played maybe his best game last night. Took a bad sack but aside from that he was decisive.

I still think the Cinci game was his best game of the season but he's been doing a much better job of playing smarter quarterback the past month and a half. Even just throwing the ball away when he gets flushed out and is dead to rights is a positive sign. Just avoid dumb turnovers. I know people think there is going to come a game where they're going to need him to throw for 300+ and 4 TDs but this team made the Super Bowl in 2022 with him barely doing anything against NYG and SF in the two playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl. And then he had one of the best games of his career in the Super Bowl against KC.

This team can go very far with him just playing the smart, game-manager role who limits turnovers and can pick up conversions with his legs only throwing 20-25 times a game.

My only quibble right now is first quarter production is still an issue; I could see that being a big concern if we run into the Lions in the playoffs.  They’re having an historic season offensively.

Getting down 10 points against them would be bad medicine

If the defense can keep games close then the offensive line will wear down any Dline in the league.

I haven’t seen anyone on here give Sirianni the proper credit for declining then accepting the 10-yard penalty against the Rams to force them into a 3rd and long leading to a sack, instead of a very doable 4th and short.  Worked the officials perfectly as soon as he saw McVay leave his offense on the field.  Normally a coach will need to burn a timeout to do that, or not be allowed to at all.

It doesn’t feed into the narrative that the head coach of a 9-2 team doesn’t know what he’s doing, though.

We didn't call for him to be fired this week. That’s as good as it gets. 😂

If we lose on Sunday, how fast does the "Here comes another collapse!" narrative take hold here.

He was basically saying,”We finally got the pass rush going and then this ….ugh”

Well, who knows - seems to still have a motor on him - maybe one more year?

Ravens before today's game give up 77 yards per game on the ground. Want to see us wear them down.

Next week's game is just an interesting match up but Ravens are a heavily penalized team, most in the league, so we can expect them to do some dumb crap.

They had 26 seconds and at the 37 because the punt sucked. They were fortunate he shanked it but didn't have the time to capitalize.

They had it 1st and 10 at the 49 with 21 seconds to play.

I had to be a Karen today (though less ****y), and it worked out well for me, and I liked the surge of power I felt, and now I’m terrified of what I might become. 😂

Not much to complain about from yesterday. Sucks BG is done. If we can somehow generate pressure on the QB throughout the playoffs we have a real shot.

Getting down means having to abandon the run and throw more.  That's not this team.  This team is much more Tennessee Titans with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry than many folks want to admit.

They touched on this during the broadcast.  I agreed with Sirianni.  Minimizing the damage Stafford could do was the right move.  We were getting the ball at the beginning of the second half.  No need to get too greedy there.

I thought it was a tricky situation. Had the Rams converted, that timeout helps them. As it turned out, the time left wasn’t an issue. We had plenty of time to get in FG range. The play sequence was atrocious on that last series before the half.

Who was his biggest FA acquisition if not Barkley?

Money wise?  Huff. 3 years for $51M vs 3 years at ~$38M.

Size wise?  Becton.  6'7" 363 lbs vs 6'0" 233 lbs.

Probably because many folks don't want to be seen as complete morons.

Yep agree. He was great last night - efficiency is the name of the game and he kept the O on track and made some big throws / runs in critical moments.  Not sure it was up there with the how efficient he was against Cincy though. But this was up there.
