EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Hurts: he's doing what we all wanted him to do: throw the ball away and not force anything.  It has resulted in 1 INT in seven games.  He still holds the ball too long.

Sirianni/Moore: I'd like to see them adopt the motion/quick throws that LA used to get the ball to Puka quickly outside with some space to run.  Give Smith and Brown some opportunities for easy catch and run plays.  They also do a good job of creating mismatches by significantly moving their receivers pre-snap.  Eagles reverted to no pre snap movement most of that game after their opening drive.  This does not help Hurts.

The league is clear on how they want to try and defend the Eagles: stuff the box and make Hurts throw to win.  If a team can slow our running game leaning on Hurts to win it in the air is a challenge.  The Redzone offense is an indicator of that.

Especially Brown.  He's so good in RAC.  Use him that way.

Agree.  He'd bust some big ones and just move the sticks.

I wholeheartedly disagree.  For me it was an A- game from Hurts.  He consistently used his head and made the smart play ... drastically minimizing the chances of an INT.

In tonight's Ravens-Chargers game, the radio announcing team spent a lot of time talking about the fact that Justin Herber has only one INT in eleven games.  It is hard to express the value of avoiding turnovers like that, and the one INT Jalen has since the Bye was an amazing play by Diggs in the Cowboys game.

So, my bottomline is that Hurts is playing much more with his head than his heart since the break ... with the fact that it is a team sport, not an individual contest.  That to me is worth a grade of A all by itself.

Yep.  Exactly. He’s been trusting his teammate to make plays, getting rid of the ball when there’s nothing there and he hasn’t been "forcing” things - pretty much since the bye week he’s been a completely different player than last year and the beginning of this year.   Kudos to him.

Nah.

Barkley rarely gets tackled behind the LOS, and he uses a LOT of power to get his yards. Shady was closer to Barry as a runner.

Barkley looks like the most complete runner I’ve ever seen though. Excellent vision, patience, burst, speed, elusiveness, power, balance… he has every trait at an elite level.

Barkley reminds me of vintage Walter Payton.

The Eagles broke Demarcus Robinson’s psyche on Sunday.

Barkley leapfrogged Hurts, Herbert, Burrow, and Mahomes, and is now 3rd in the odds, behind Allen and Jackson for MVP.

Was it a backwards leapfrog?

Saw a Pat Mcafee show clip where Texans fans are turning on CJ Stroud.  He's known as CJ Fraud.

Seriously though, I know it's easy to do but fans need to stop crowning and stop calling players busts after small sample sizes.  Tons of people were on Jayden Daniels nuts but now he's coming back down to Earth a little.

Not saying either guy won't be good but give their careers time to develop before claiming they are this or that.

Know a lot of Texan fans, having grown up in Houston.  No real fans are turning on him.  Critical, yes, but turning on him, no.  Frankly, Stroud hasn’t cost them as much as the defense and special teams.

Alshon repping Jerome Brown!

That's not Alshon in the Jerome Brown jersey.  Alshon is the one wearing the Eagles jacket.

The fact that he's still only 3rd is due to his position, not his performance.  He's out performing everyone right now.  This is a 0.500 team if the Eagles had added Ezekiel Elliott in place of Saquon Barkley.

There are three Christmas toy commercials from the 90s that are engrained in my head and I could sing along with to this day.

I've been singing Mr Bucket to myself for the entire morning.  Thanks a lot!!

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Barkley to win the rushing title? Like just put this dude in plastic until the playoffs. Ha

My fault! Hey, I'll take cheesy 80s/90s toy commercial jingles over todays ads which seem to all be some sort of medication.

Well, we see what is happening with the Jets from afar.  It can only look worse from the inside.  I just don't think folks should anticipate a hometown discount for these guys.  It could happen, but they also have a limiting earning window and their agent and the NFLPA will want them to get their max worth.

Also, OTs still earn more than OGs, though that disparity is smaller now.  But he might also prefer playing OT and get offered more to do so.

He might want to play OT (and get paid as one),  but I think his NFL market will be set at OG.  The NFL as a whole has a lot respect for Jeff Stoutland.  I think they will almost uniformly agree that that’s his best position going forward.  His upside value will be that he can play tackle if needed.

But that play he had AJ open and should have thrown the TD but he spazzed out.

Not clear on the live broadcast and they never showed a replay. In any case, he has errored far too many times being overly aggressive in the red zone so what I see is progress.
