Do game managers rush for 40 yards per game?

I’d say yes.

In fact, I’d say that’s the future for the play style of "game manager” at the QB position.

If you are going to use the old Ravens or Bucs model to win the Super Bowl with a dominating defense, power run game, and timely 3rd down conversions by the QB, I think a running threat is a great "value add” skill set to fit within the QBs role.

Think about it — running has a low turnover rate compared to passing, which fits the ball control model. It also is a force multiplier to your running back because of the option play. You are also presumably going to have more 3rd and short situations, where scrambling ability gives you easy conversions.

Frankly I think this is THE model for this style of play. Your QB gives you 30-50 yards rushing, 200 or so passing, all with low turnover rates and high 3rd down conversion.

Great, I love that he is a threat there, but he probably leaves at least 100 yards passing on the table every week. He wouldn't have to run so much if he could progress fast enough and see the field or they didn't have to simplify the offense in their words since the BYE. Good QBs don't have to have things simplified. Game managers do.

Did you see how many yards Lamar left out on the field yesterday? Every QB does it. Nobody is saying Hurts is a top QB and he's the reason for all the winning. Winning takes a team, and Hurts is part of that team.

Quinyon running with Flowers was also elite

Flowers was crying for flags a lot too

It’s pretty much an identical team to those Niners teams. An elite RB, great offensive line, good receiving options, and a top defense. It’s Hurts’s job to just get the ball to the playmakers and not turn it over. He adds the extra element with his legs though.

I know everyone keeps saying he’s going to have to win games with his arm eventually, but they passed that first test today in not needing him to do that against a top offense. He’ll most likely need to if they run into Detroit in the playoffs or Buffalo in the Super Bowl but I guess you worry about it then.

I think everyone in the building knows it’s Saquon’s offense, including Hurts, and they’re at least riding that into a fight for the #1 seed. It’s the biggest strength on the team. Ideally you’d want an elite passing attack to complement that but they are what they are through 12 games and I don’t see much improving on that end. The health of AJ and DeVonta will be paramount the rest of the way. It shouldn’t be this way, but the passing game craters when one of them is out. If they can stay healthy, I think the chance is always there of the passing game looking somewhat competent enough to beat top teams when paired with the rushing attack and the defense.

It is kind of frustrating that the team has these 2 very elite weapons in Brown and Smith and Hurts is 20th in passing yards (I know there have been injuries)

Do we know yards before contact in the 2nd. Offensive line is dominating in the 2nd half of games

Trent Dilfer, the poster child for game managers, threw for 136 and ran for 7 yards a game in 2000.

Hurts is 208 and 40.

Come up with a different term than game manager.

Senior game manager?

There's a small part of me that is starting to think it is intentional at this point. Rope a dope every week to start the game. It's the only way I can explain it, because we know Moore will commit to the run.

Is it rope a dope, or is it a matter of testing their defenses on a broad spectrum, finding the weakness, and then spend the remainder of the game trying to exploit those weaknesses?

Of course, that sort of does beg the question, why can't they find the weakness more from tape study?

OK.  But what has been simplified?   Or is "simplified" shorthand for running the ball more?  Because our run game is anything but simple.

Again, what have they removed from the playbook to accommodate Hurts shortcomings?

Can someone please go re-watch the game and jot down how many times we got a bad spot.  Seemed like we would have a 5 yard rush and then it's 2nd and 7.  Or they run for 9 and somehow get 12.  Not to mention the tush push crap spot.   Also the 2 penalties picked up were hilarious.  The one where he's got his whole shirt ripping in half but the other one where Kyle Hamilton had to go to the tent to get tested for a concussion.  Apparently there was no contact on that play.

But you get my point.

This Blog went through months of debate on what a "mobile" QB meant.  The literal meaning and the implied meaning.

IMO, game manager implies a "get-out-of-the-way" QB.  That isn't what Hurts is.

My favorite part of that was Hamilton being out, knocked out, and then comes back in the game. NFL needs better concussion testing.

What is worse is the non stop holding on Carter.  Even when it is obvious they are not calling holding on the opposing OL.  It is getting ridiculous at this point.  If I were the Eagles, I would put together a tape of all non called holds against him to send to the league.  It might take a whole day to watch

Is the all 22 for Carter released yet? 👀

Run game isn't, but the passing seems to be. From what has been reported they dumbed things down and asked him to do less which is why the turnovers have been down.

I did a quick google search and found 2023 articles but nothing on 2024. So clearly I'm not seeing what you're seeing. So where did you find it?

Probably a way to find out on pro football reference but not sure how to do it.

Snoozefest game on tonight. But big game on TNF. Need Packers to win.
