I did a quick google search and found 2023 articles but nothing on 2024. So clearly I'm not seeing what you're seeing. So where did you find it?

Probably on YouTube during one of the many morning shows I watch.

No other Eagles coach had ever beaten the Bengals or the Ravens away from home.

Nick Sirianni did both in his first try.

Yeah but exactly what does he do.

(joking, of course)

It really does seem to be a bit.  Arrogance?  We'll show up after the 4th commercial break?

There's a small part of me that is starting to think it is intentional at this point. Rope a dope every week to start the game. It's the only way I can explain it, because we know Moore will commit to the run.

It all makes sense now…

Kellen Moore: Hey Nick, check out how this group of posters on the EMB looses their sheet when we don’t commit to the run early in games!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Like clock work!

No, don’t worry Nick, we only need 3 quarters to win the game. This is funny stuff here!

Ah ok. I don't watch those anymore. Too much crap to get views

There always seems to be an Asian person drawing at the end or it's a clip that has nothing to do with what the title said for clicks

Is it rope a dope, or is it a matter of testing their defenses on a broad spectrum, finding the weakness, and then spend the remainder of the game trying to exploit those weaknesses?

Of course, that sort of does beg the question, why can't they find the weakness more from tape study?

You can see weaknesses from film study but teams may also change things week to week and alter some of what they do.  Moore, and maybe Sirianni as well, may let the game play out a little to see what they're doing.

I don't know how much is testing for weaknesses early. Rather it feels like we just manage to find all the ways to kill the early drives.  From screw ups on specials to penalties to dropped balls.

However, all the times they leave you (me) wondering why don't they run SB more frequently early, those could be part of probing for weaknesses?  But to me it just seems like it is more likely that they just screw up the drives.

Flip side is the ability to adjust on both sides of the ball is impressive.  Great coaching.  And great player mindset, too.

Did you see how many yards Lamar left out on the field yesterday? Every QB does it. Nobody is saying Hurts is a top QB and he's the reason for all the winning. Winning takes a team, and Hurts is part of that team.

No, you're not cool unless you bash Hurts. You have to hate the QB and wish he never played another snap or you're not a true Eagles fan.

Jalen is 8th in QB rating, 9th in QBR and 7th in Completion %.

He's 20th in yards, because he's 22nd in attempts. Tied for 13th in turnovers (9 total) with Stafford, Rodgers, Goff, Dak, Daniel Jones, and Kyler.

He's going to have less raw stats, because we're leading a lot and we're running a lot. By most metrics, he's been efficient.

OK.  But what has been simplified?   Or is "simplified" shorthand for running the ball more?  Because our run game is anything but simple.

Again, what have they removed from the playbook to accommodate Hurts shortcomings?

I can't remember where I saw it, most likely ESPN, but they were talking about the Eagles and saying on offense that they aren't really doing anything fancy or complicated.  Sirianni even said at his PC yesterday that they are boring.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I could care less as long as they are winning.  If what they are doing isn't ground breaking or innovative but still working, who cares?

He’s close to top 10 in yards if you include rushing. I know it’ll upset a few old heads in here by bringing that up, but he gets the offense yardage one way or another

Again, I think that folks are using simplified to mean run more / throw less.  Which, ironically, is exactly what this fanbase wants.

Ugh.

If push comes to shove, I'd rather the team sign Becton than Williams. Love him as a player but Lane is getting up in years and Williams is benefiting from OL emphasis on Carter.

Howie will find a way to sign them both

Sucks he’s injured. Might be it for him. However I would argue he’s a good multipurposed play if they weren’t paying him the money they were. It feels like every year he explodes  for two games and then the rest of the season they just sporadically use him

This describes a game manager system qb on an elite team.

Very good qb rating, very good efficiency metrics, "doesn’t need to throw as much” isn’t dropping back much, has limited volume stats…

Game managers have won super bowls.  Tom Brady was once a game manager.  Peyton Manning was a game manager for both SB wins.

That’s textbook game manager for me.  Highly efficient, elite surroundings, not asked to do too much.  When a qb isn’t asked to do too much and doesn’t have elite support, they are called a place holder, not a game manager.

If resources are limited, I'd rather sign Baun, decide what to do with Fred, extend Jurgens, maybe Dean as well.  They also have the option to extend Davis (which would be to their advantage as he seems to be showing signs of what his draft status warranted).

Hurts version A: hero ball, higher pass attempts, higher turnovers, bailing pocket too much, taking sacks, missing receivers at times, making big plays at times.

Hurts version B: "game manager," lower pass attempts, reduced turnovers, higher passer rating, increase in throwing ball away instead of taking sacks, still missing open receivers at times, but still making big plays at times. Throwing to the middle of the field more, making accurate throws.

Everyone complained when he was version A, and now that he's version B and they are winning you're still complaining.

There is no version C where he's an elite passer, you have to let that go. Calling him trash, garbage, etc. is over the top and silly. He's not the best, he's not the worst, using extremes is just dumb. The coaches are scheming to his strengths and running with Barkley more as they should. He stays calm under pressure, bounces back from mistakes, is a threat in the run and for deep passes, and comes up with big plays and wins games. Yes there are weaknesses, yes there are frustrating plays. Complaining that he's not a top passer is pointless, he never will be.

Many of you are really clinging to this idea that a QB has to be a pocket passer, some of you really hate when QBs run despite guys like Lamar and Allen running it. Lamar has only 13 less carries than Hurts who gets a lot of his from the brotherly shove.

Let go of the "he's not playing like a $250m QB." Many of you cite his contract as if it's your money, when Howie structured it in a way that he has afforded extensions to Smitty, Dickerson and signed Barkley in addition to having AJ Brown. NFL contracts for QBs are insane. Trevor Lawrence has a $275m contract, Herbert $262m (he currently has less yards, less TDs and more INTs than Hurts), Dak $240m, Kyler Murray & Deshaun Watson both $230m. Teams overpay QBs. Plus Hurts is back loaded and Howie always restructures, he was also able to get get out of the Wentz situation 1 year after giving him a big contract.

Version B of Hurts is winning games, you still get some of the weakness but managed, you get reduced turnovers and increased efficiency, you get an 8 game win streak, convincing wins over good teams, and a team that isn't collapsing at the end of the game like last year.

The team is 10-2 and in contention for the #1 seed and home field advantage. This is not last year's team with the worries of collapse.

I can't remember this little jerk's name, but he was still more likeable than Chachi.

Are there sites that distinguish scramble yards from designed run yards?

I'd be OK with including scrambles (and resulting first downs) in passing stats.

EDIT:  The NFL includes sack yardage lost as part of a teams net passing yards.  Why not scrambles?

On Saquon's TD, their LB Simpson moves to the outside gap away from the play side to cover Hurts if he keeps it.  It would have been a difficult block for Jurgens if Simpson was following the play flow.  But he didn't have to.  Mailata takes care of Roquon Smith in the gap and Barkley is off to the end zone.  Not part of his passing statistics, but what Hurts adds to the offense.

Yep. Feels like we have to point this out almost every week and somehow people still doubt the impact this has.

We can win a SB with this, so sure.

The difference for Hurts is that we have evidence that he can hit big throws downfield in crunch time. He's not Alex Smith where that was not happening.
