EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Fans are never happy with the Eagles QB. Complained McNabb ran too much, then when he threw from the pocket more they complained he wasn't running enough. Complained he smiled too much and was loose, they complain Hurts is too stoic and focused and doesn't smile. They loved when Garcia was "fiery" despite taking 10 step drops and dancing around with happy feet but with "running QBs" they want a statue to stay in the pocket. Complained that Foles couldn't run and wasn't mobile but they complain about mobile QBs are just RBs and the QB should stand there and just pass. Complain Hurts runs too much, then complain when he doesn't take off and run instead of locating a receiver downfield. Complained when he was playing badly and the team was losing, complain when he's playing better and the team is winning but he's just a game manager.

We all know the Eagles have elite talent at RB and WR and it would be awesome if the QB were a top 1-2 in the league and the greatest show on earth. That's not going to happen. They're on a win streak and beating good teams, convincingly. If they were to win the SB like this, who cares. It's a team sport.

Sheil Kapadia brought up an interesting stat. Lamar Jackson has gone 43 regular season games without losing by more than 7 points. 9/28/2020 was the last game. Eagles would have had it if not for that garbage time TD.

Some perspective of how dominant yesterday was.

I still don’t think our passing game is close to being where it should be. The Ravens pass D sucks and Hurts had 1 more passing yard than Barkley had of total offense.

Obviously I’m not there but Moore and Hurts just don’t seem to be on the same to be a good combo.

Hurts isn't a good combo with any OC. That's why they all get fired. The common denominator in all the failing is him.

Switching gears from Hurts...

Given what Baun has been able to do and the defense in general, I am going to trust Fangio when he wants to bring players in that might not seem like a great move to begin with.

He's been far and away the best DC we've had in some time

I think Schwarz was a magician considering what he had to work with. Still Fangio so far seems even better. Best player plays, many players look like they actually get better..

This place is unreal.  It doesn't matter whether the Eagles win or lose so long as they can bash Hurts.

Yeah, it's just us who aren't impressed with him.

He's had 3 OCs. The first one became a head coach. The second was fired. The third is his current OC.

All the failing.. 😂

There is actually a chance that we end up tied with the Vikings where they likely win SOV tiebreaker.

Cardinals were in position to help with that... and then they did what they do.

I think the only teams better than the Ravens are the Bills and Lions.  And you have to throw in the Chiefs until someone actually beats them.

The Steelers are on the same level as the Ravens IMO.  They'll be the toughest opponent the Eagles face until a hypothetical NFCCG against the Lions.

Eagles PPG ratings:

2024: 7th

2023: 7th

2022: 2nd

2021: 12th

So much failing...

I'm still not sure what to make of the Packers. I know we beat them, but I think they can beat anyone and also get crushed by anyone.

All I’ll say on Hurts. When the D is playing this dominantly and Barkley is taking over the second half of every game and on pace to get close to the rushing record, it doesn’t matter who is QB.

If those two things dip for whatever reason and Hurts can’t overcome it, then it’s a problem.

It’s not a problem now, so just enjoy the ride and see what happens.

Maddox has absolutely no idea what hes doing when hes out there. There is ALWAYS a blown assignment, whether its him, or him telling someone to cover the wrong person.

Hadn't even thought of that. Why can't Brown, Ringo or even Ricks provide what Maddox is?

This is true, I was very upset when Hurts got Shane Steichen fired. I don't know how he keeps getting away with it!

He might be a dirty player, but the overreaction to this play has been almost unbearable.

Praises on the tackle by DeJean on Henry are everywhere.  But that was a perfectly executed tackle from technique point of view.  This could be the model every coach will show his defensive players at every level.  The impacts on the game and confidence of the team are also significant.  Had a high expectation on DeJean since the draft.  The rookie has not disappointed.

The slow start of the offense still concerns me.  That has not caused the team any game yet.  But it is harder to climb out of a hole when faces good teams in the play-off.  The coaches better found ways to correct that, and soon.

Unbearable? Is someone holding you down and forcing you to watch the talking heads or whatever the source of this overreaction is?

He said almost.

They almost held him down. That's a relief.

I can live with Hurts not being a weekly 300 yard passer. Right now I’m happy he’s not turning the ball over like he had been from week 1 last year to week 4 this year. I do wish he were a bit more efficient to start games though. Get Smitty and AJ more involved earlier to go along with Barkley.

When you have a potential hall of fame running back on your hands like Barkley. You do exactly what the Eagles are doing. Especially with this dominant run blocking offensive line. If Barkley was getting only 10 touches a game it would be a total waste of talent there. Right now, the running game is setting up the play action and passing game. And during this time of year and the playoffs this is a winning recipe. Keep the Time of possession strong, defense fresh and the Hurts turnovers to a minimum and we are virtually unstoppable.

Eagles finally are playing a smart and not too risky brand of football. Believe Sirianni and Lurie had a very serious meeting regarding the unnecessary risks we were taking during games. At this point, the only team who can beat the Eagles...are the Eagles.  Barring major injuries, gonna be a fun ending here. Only stat I care about is wins. Hurts is doing plenty in that department. Staying patient is the best style for him. Not the hero ball stuff. Glad they figured this all out and not overly tempted by the glitz and glamor of the passing game. I'm sure AJ and Devonte will still have their weeks. But this team is built around SB right now for an upcoming SB. 😉
