Greatest Phillies player ever?   No doubt.   Not even sure who Number 2 is.

Greatest 3B in MLB history?  No doubt.   Again, not even sure who Number 2 is.

I think Jimmy Rollins has a strong case for #2 all time for the Phils. He was frustrating at times trying to be a HR king, but man I think we just got so spoiled by how smooth he was in the field and how dependable he was. He's a borderline HOF player. At the same time, you could make the same argument for Chase Utley being #2 all time.

Pitchers go in a different category for me.  They only play every 4 or 5 days.  As great as he was, he didn't help you 3/4 of the time.  Ashburn probably gets the nod from me, for organizational longevity.  Carlton is a great answer though, easily the greatest pitcher in Phillies history, and arguably the best LHP ever in MLB.

Robinson had no bat.  I think I'd go Brett #2.

Koufax.

I know they're pretty much meaningless, but I'd like to know the mental gymnastics used to drop the Eagles down a rank in the ESPN power rankings after they won against the Ravens on the road.

Best not to think about it. We'll let em know in January.

Easier option.   Eliminate the slide.    It is BECAUSE they are giving themselves up, and going feet first that they are actually more susceptible to these hits.   Change the rule.   If they slide, they slide, but it won't provide protection for them anymore.   When they are a runner, they are a runner and are subject to the exact same hits as a RB, WR, TE, etc.   And crazy thought, the QBs will get down FASTER to avoid the big hits.

The issue is the ambiguity and the defenders having to make fast decisions.  And when they go to tackle at the waist area, the QB's head ends up right at that spot, because they don't get FLAT to get under those hits, they just do a baseball slide.

sliding feet-first on the ground. When a runner slides feet-first, the ball is dead the instant he touches the ground with anything other than his hands or his feet.
Notes:

Defenders are required to treat a sliding runner as they would a runner who is down by contact.
A defender must pull up when a runner begins a feet-first slide. This does not mean that all contact by a defender is illegal. If a defender has already committed himself, and the contact is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender makes forcible contact into the head or neck area of the runner with the helmet, shoulder, or forearm, or commits some other act that is unnecessary roughness.
A runner who desires to take advantage of this protection is responsible for starting his slide before contact by a defensive player is imminent; if he does not, and waits until the last moment to begin his slide, he puts himself in jeopardy of being contacted.

Assuming they beat Carolina, the division could be all but wrapped up.

They'd be up 3 games on Washington with 4 to go.

And if not for last years collapse, winning the NFCE this year would have been 3 in a row.

Long hair and necklaces on the field

I've thought when I see players trailing long hair how that hair would have worked in the '70s with some of the rough 'n' ready players of that era.

Just watched the Vic Fangio presser…love his response to the Jalen Carter/Jerome Brown question.  He just basically said people shouldn’t compare players because, at the end of the day, someone is being slighted.  Paraphrasing, but I loved that answer.

Koufax.

Does longevity weigh in?   He started barely over 300 games.   Lefty has more wins than Koufax had starts.   In terms of 'stuff', you are likely right, from what I understand of Koufax, as he was before my time.  But, he didn't pitch for very long at all.

I could see Howie sitting in a room with Fangio and Stoutland.  Fangio pounds the table to keep Baun and Milton Williams.  Stoutland boasts that he can make the OL cruise along just fine with Steen at RG next year if they let Bechton walk.

Baun is a must. I'd like to see Williams back. Not sure if they can come together on a reasonable deal. I'm sure they'll try to extend Davis soon. Becton should take whatever deal they give him knowing without Stoutland, he's back to being meh

Pretty sad he's only had 2 passing td's in the 4th quarter during the winning streak. Then again, he is a game manager

and that's where most of these hits that result in bad concussions come from.   The QBs are relying on the rule, and not taking care of themselves, in fact, I think to a certain extent they are going down very late in hopes of getting a free 15 yards from the officials.    Remove that protection, and force the QBs to be more defensive in their running style, and be more prepared for contact.   They'd actually end up with less big hits than we are seeing these days.  Before those protections were in place, we'd rarely see a QB getting lit up like that, because they'd take measures to protect themselves, give themselves up or throw the ball away.   If the league really cared about 'safety', they'd remove the protection for the running QB to take a slide like that and instead just treat them like the runners that they are.  If they are going to give themselves up, they really need to do it much much sooner than they do.   But, they are willing to risk the injury for the extra yard or the chance to steal a free 15 yards.
