Assuming they beat Carolina, the division could be all but wrapped up.

They'd be up 3 games on Washington with 4 to go.

And if not for last years collapse, winning the NFCE this year would have been 3 in a row.

Wish Taysom Hill hadn't gotten hurt. He could have been a nice weapon to try and help beat Washington in 2 weeks.

Does longevity weigh in?   He started barely over 300 games.   Lefty has more wins than Koufax had starts.   In terms of 'stuff', you are likely right, from what I understand of Koufax, as he was before my time.  But, he didn't pitch for very long at all.

Your point is valid. His major league career was twelve years long but he is judged on his last five, when he was almost unhittable.

As long as we’re on baseball, here are a couple of little stories.

Nolan Ryan was pitching and Norm Cash, first baseman of the Tigers and a fine hitter, came to the plate carrying a table leg instead of a bat. The ump said, "Norm, you can’t use that.” To which Cash replied, "Why not? I can’t hit him anyway.”

Don Drysdale, a contemporary of Koufax’s on the Dodgers, was reputed to be the meanest SOB who ever lived. He said once, "The best pitch isn’t when you throw at a guy. It’s when you throw at him a second time to let him know you meant it the first time.”

And yet what we see constantly is exactly what the last line says...

and that's where most of these hits that result in bad concussions come from.   The QBs are relying on the rule, and not taking care of themselves, in fact, I think to a certain extent they are going down very late in hopes of getting a free 15 yards from the officials.    Remove that protection, and force the QBs to be more defensive in their running style, and be more prepared for contact.   They'd actually end up with less big hits than we are seeing these days.  Before those protections were in place, we'd rarely see a QB getting lit up like that, because they'd take measures to protect themselves, give themselves up or throw the ball away.   If the league really cared about 'safety', they'd remove the protection for the running QB to take a slide like that and instead just treat them like the runners that they are.  If they are going to give themselves up, they really need to do it much much sooner than they do.   But, they are willing to risk the injury for the extra yard or the chance to steal a free 15 yards.

I'm not sure when the protection for kneeling happened. I agree QBs will use it to their advantage and I don't see anything wrong with that. Every team and player find loopholes to benefit from. Cam didn't really benefit from any protects. He definitely got beat up a lot. I wonder if it was after his career.

I'm curious what this idea of yours would do to the mobile QB/running QB trend that's happened though. I could see the young ones wanting to risk it. Would teams call less QB draws? Would teams start to not draft those types because of the risk involved might not outweigh the reward?

Koufax.

Yep.  Probably the most pure form of unhittable pitching baseball has ever seen.

Baun is a must keep. Williams is second priority. Bechton will get overpaid elsewhere. It’ll be interesting to see if Bechton gets moved to RT.

I wouldn’t be so quick to let Becton walk. He’s young with unicorn physical gifts and is playing at a pro bowl level with the possibility of moving to RT when Lane retires.

I'm really, really getting hung up on Milton Williams and the thought of him and Jalen Carter continuing to ascend. For as dominant as Carter has been, I don't think he's even scratched the surface yet. Milton Williams is PERFECT next to him. I like Ojomo and Booker, but I think they are better served as DT depth.

There are four players who captured me and cemented me as a Philly sports fan.

Randall Cunningham, Mike Schmidt, Ron Hextall and Allen Iverson.

This should be a great watch.

Concrete Charlie, Steve Carlton, Bernie Parent, Wilt Chamberlain

The best I've watched in my time in each Philly sport:

Schmidt (hon. mention to Steve Carlton, who was so great that 4 teams signed him after he couldn't pitch at all anymore)

Julius Irving

Reggie White

Bobby Clarke (both Parent and Lindros were great for a period of time, but Clarke is the only answer)

Carke for grit and tenacity, but Parent for beauty and accomplishment.  Said another way, Parent could do it all by himself.  Clarke needed others to do it.

Trust Stoutland.

Can we not afford these guys when we get rid of Slay and JB?

Greatest Phillies player ever?   No doubt.   Not even sure who Number 2 is.

Greatest 3B in MLB history?  No doubt.   Again, not even sure who Number 2 is.

Are you really going to place Schmidt over Carlton?

#2 3B is Brooks Robinson, and it is closer than you make it out to be.

Carlton wasn't as good as Koufax over an extended period, but his 1972 might have been the greatest year any pitcher ever had (maybe Gibson in 1968 with a 1.12 ERA?).

Going 27-10 on a team that only won 59 games. 41 starts, 30 complete games. Absurd.

Pitchers go in a different category for me.  They only play every 4 or 5 days.  As great as he was, he didn't help you 3/4 of the time.  Ashburn probably gets the nod from me, for organizational longevity.  Carlton is a great answer though, easily the greatest pitcher in Phillies history, and arguably the best LHP ever in MLB.

Robinson had no bat.  I think I'd go Brett #2.

the offensive numbers below don't report the 16 Gold Gloves that Robinson won, or the 10 that Schmidt won, or the single Gold Glove that Brett won

He's James Bradberry.  He's getting paid this year for nothing, and frankly was paid last year for nothing too.   "So sorry, James, it's not personal, just business."

Help me understand Bradberry's 2025 numbers from OTC copied and pasted below.  It seems to read to me that he counts as $10.8 million of Dead Money, but only just under $3 million of net Cap Hit.
