For anyone interested in 70s and 80s former Flyers, Chris Nilan does a very good podcast interview and he just dropped one on YouTube with Behn Wilson.  Almost 90 minutes discussing Wilson’s career through junior hockey, his NHL career and a bit on his life after hockey.

It was good to see him seemingly in good health and humor.  One of the best enforcers of his era and very capable player.  He shares some good stories.

I remember people on here were drooling over pitts and he was going to be an unstoppable mismatch in every game... Lol. Not so much

I think he was a very poor fit for Atlanta. They’ve been a zone blocking, run heavy team. Why would you ask a tweener TE/WR to run block all game? Get that guy split out, create some mismatches, and make him a weapon.

It would be like asking a young Mike Vick to run an offense the way Peyton Manning did in Indy. Just a square peg in a round hole. Circumstances really hurt his career and I wouldn’t be shocked if he went somewhere else and blew up.

Pitts needs to be in a wide open attack. Don’t ask him to be an in-line blocker.  He needs an offense that throws the ball 35+ times per game. Give him 8-12 targets per game. In that situation I think he could be really deadly.

For the Eagles, he’s a bad fit as a pure in-line TE. Same issue as the Falcons — we run too much and he’s not a guy you want in the box blocking LBs.

As a slot receiver, I’m intrigued if we get to try him out for a year in exchange for a low draft pick. He’d also be a good option in case AJ Brown gets hurt. Obviously different, but could provide a bit of dynamism at multiple levels of the route tree.

do not want

Becton was a bigger bust.

Pitts has rare, unicorn type physical gifts. If Atlanta just wants to cut ties and will take a 6th rounder or whatever, I’ll happily take the chance on him.

This offseason we need to bring in a blue chip backup and take some of the load of Barkley.

But for now, Barkley is our war horse.

Brandon Graham came out as non-binary.

He's better than most 6th/7th round prospects

That is true, but he is coming up on a contract renewal, so his cost won’t stay at 6th/7th round level.  In fact it isn’t at 6th/7th round level now.

Exactly.

Even if you use an expected value view of draft picks accounting for 4 years of a rookie vs 1 year of Pitts, it’s still heavily in Pitts favor.

Pitts also has enormous upside if you can unlock his potential. So the upside is there.

Nonidea if he will even be available or what he’d cost to bring in, but for a throw away low round pick I’d jump on it.

The biggest issue I see is you’ve got to look at him as our slot receiver. He's not a Goedert replacement. You can use him as a key to audible run/pass based on how the defense tries to matchup with him.

If you get 75% of his potential for a year, that’s a borderline pro bowler. And your 6th round pick turns into a 4th round comp pick.

We're lucky they didn't flag Mailata for moving too early because he did.

I thought so too, so I went back and looked.  IMO, he moved before the rest of the line moved but not before Jurgens started the snap.  Like when Lane looks early, but is in synch with the ball starting to move.

Howie trades a 7th and gets a higher comp pick back when he turns amazing with the Eagles. I like it.

I freeze framed it too and thought he moved about two (possibly only one) frame(s) before Jurgens started to move the ball. It’s probably not easy to pick up with the naked eye, but I would consider it a technical false start. Not worth stressing over since it went our way.

Good discussions about our top FA‘s in 25. I would hope that they try everything remotely possible to retain Baun. I would view Williams as a second priority and then maybe Sweat. Could consider Becton before Sweat, but definitely not ahead of Baun.

How many years has it been that we’ve had a playmaker at linebacker? It’s been ages that we actually had competent play at that position. Now it’s not the laughingstock of the league because Baun and even Dean have played really well. Keeping this defense together should be a top priority, as the offense has enough firepower next year. Becton has also played really well, but if he leaves, his spot can be filled with not a lot of drop off.

We’ve been screaming for quality linebackers for ages, so why would you let a playmaker leave that surprisingly fell into your lap?

Keep the D together as long as possible. Their play is one of the biggest reasons for the turnaround from last year.

The defence has been as much fun to watch as the offence tbh

Yet the eagles have Calcaterra on the roster and drafted him with a late round pick. ertz couldn’t block very well for much of his eagles tenure. Eagles taking a chance on a TE that has athleticism to be versatile as could also play some WR and former top 10 pick for a late round pick doesn’t seem all that out of the question.

Picking him up wouldn’t be out of the question, but i wouldn’t have much faith in anything more than the #2 for his future.  Unless they want a ‘big slot’.  His blocking is that bad IMO, makes Calc look like Ertz and Ertz look like DG.

Trouble is a trade brings his contract over and his salary will be big, unlike a 7th round pick cost would be, and we have been discussing the team not having the money to bring back all the players on this team about to hit the market.  No way they could take on big salary for a question mark like that.  This is very different from the Becton move, where he was released and the Eagles got him for a song on a one year deal.

Absolutely! I’ve always had more joy of watching good defenses, especially back in the good old days of Gang Green.
Those days are long gone, but this year has been fun to watch on that side of the ball & it was very unexpected.

I forget who did the video but I've seen it explained that they are allowed to move as long as the front foot is staying in place.

Peters started this in his old age.  Lane has annoyed opposing fans with it.  But I've also begun to notice some OTs for other teams doing it as well.

They're basically beginning their kick slide with the back foot but the front foot isn't moving till the ball is snapped.

The idea of Pitts is intriguing because he’s such a physically gifted freak but you kinda talked me out of the idea by trying to sell it.

He needs to be in a wide open offense like you said in another post. The team that comes to mind is the Bengals. He’d be a better version of Gesicki who doesn’t do much when Higgins plays. Higgins will be gone this offseason.

I haven’t watched a lot of Pitts but I’m assuming he’s a pretty similar player to Jimmy Graham. Graham was an unstoppable force on the Saints but then disappeared when he went to the run first Seahawks. Perhaps the Broncos with Payton would be an ideal fit.

Anyway I can’t imagine a scenario where Pitts wants to come to Philly to be the 5th option and I can’t imagine the Eagles would want him on a team where Barkley is going to be the focal point for the next two years.

Not with that contract.

we gave up nothing for Becton

Precisely.

Some team is going to take a chance thinking it was just the Jets. Wouldn't be surprised if it was multiple teams asking
