No, if the Lions lose to Packers they lose the tiebreaker.

No.  If the Lions lose to the Packers, the Eagles get the tiebreaker based on common opponents (assuming the Eagles sweep the Cowboys).

So Lions lose and we're #1?

Not tonight, Eagles would need to win against Carolina. But they would almost control the path to #1 seed.

If Detroit wins they would need to lose 2 out of 4 games left and Eagles would need to win out to get the #1 seed, so it's a huge game tonight.

Yup.  We'd be in the pole position.   If both the Eagles finish at 15-2, and the loss for the Lions is tonight, then the Eagles win the #1 seed.

Of course, if both are tied at 14-3, things get more complicated, and less likely for the Eagles to get the #1 seed.

They would control their destiny at that point.... just win out, and they own the 1 seed.

It would be a funny scenario if Lions/Eagles/Vikings all end up 14-2 heading into the last game of the season. We'd have to all become Lions fans.

Nope. They need 1 Vikings loss also.

Yup.  You are correct.  I kind of ignore that possibility because I don't really believe that they are real.

Are we sure MEG was the call?

There were two receivers out to that side. The two DBs stuck with the guys they lined up over before and after the mesh point. What else would you call it?

No one does  yet somehow they’re 10-2

The way the Eagles are currently playing, I wouldn't be too worried about going to Detroit.

Alot can happen in the next 5 weeks but if the Eagles are still playing like this then I won't be too worried about it.

I'm more worried about getting the bye week

So you don't want the #1 seed?

A week of rest >>> home-field advantage.

Defense and the run game travels well.

Devonta at FP on Thursday means he's playing.

You won’t get the rest if you don’t get the bye no matter where you play.

That's messed up.

The real interesting scenario in play then is if the Lions lose tonight and the Lions, Vikings and Eagles win out into the final week.  Eagles would have the Giants which would seem like an easy win.  Vikings then play @ Lions.  If that game was for the division you then think that gets the SNF treatment so Vikings would know Eagles won or maybe they do both the games at 4 PM.  Regardless Lions would have to feel like Eagles are winning that game.

Do the Lions then play their starters to try to win that game to win the division and get the #2 seed or do they instead rest starters and take the 5th seed instead?

True.

But I'd sit guys in week 18 if we only had a 2% chance of getting that first-round bye. Give these guys a breather.

#1 seed is the bye.

I would prefer them having to play outside in the cold, but I agree.

But, its that cold weather aspect that gives me hope even against the Bears in a couple weeks.

Only the #1 seed in each conference gets a bye week now ..... although #2 DAL pretty much took the wildcard game off against the #7 Packers last season.

But... only the 1 seed gets the bye now.  So... its a both and situation, unless you are interested in punting on the Giants game... and for that matter even the Cowboys game.

I think Haff is wrong but it is speculation either way.  If Ringo MEGs, that entire side of the field is vulnerable.

That's the whole point of the Trix call, backside safety is supposed to jump any deep crossers or digs that leak out behind the LBs. If there's indeed a Trix call in place here, which knowing Fangio, I think that's a fairly safe bet (though we can't say for sure), then backside CB is indeed supposed to follow his man while everyone one else drops into quarters. In effect, it sort of becomes C6 on the back end post-snap, banking on the fact that the pass rush gets home before any sort of hi-lo route concepts can develop to the backside to stress the safety (OCs usually won't call flood from strong to weak on 3rd and long situations knowing the DC might bring an extra rusher.) Gun to my head, I'd agree with Haff here, Ringo bailed when he should have followed, which would've left the backside post wide open for an easy completion had it not been a screen.
