Stopping the run on a consistent basis is an absolute necessity. First and foremost. If our D does that, then it will be difficult for the opposition to go on these long, time consuming drives. It all starts with stopping run, which they didn’t do a good job on against the Panthers, especially in the first half.

Agreed and i expect Pitt to test our run Def early and often after what Carolina did

He's been in the league for 5 years

Yeah thanks but that doesn't change my overall point though does it, teams don't trade away their 4 year starting QB after 3 consecutive 10+ win seasons.

Maybe but then why pay AJ and DeVonta? They gave them some pretty big contracts there but why do that if you are going to be so limited in the passing game?

It blows my mind. You have AJ Brown, who could run a slant on every play and get you 7-8 yards automatically and you have DeVonta Smith, one of the best route runners in the league and they seemingly never take advantages of it.

$240 million at QB and $175 million in your WR1/WR2 and you've only topped 250 yards passing 3 times this year. 5 games with under 150 yards passing. Yes, both AJ and DeVonta have missed games. Yes, they are running the ball with tremendous success. However, this is a piss poor passing offense. It makes no sense with the investments all around.

The wins dont matter much in the past if the player is declining or been figured out by the league.

Super lesson yesterday for DeJean.  Just what he needed at this point in his development.  He won't get torn up again like he did yesterday.

I thought he did fine. Would have liked to see more consistent pressure from the DL.

He had a bad game, go and look at Josh Allen's two game run against Baltimore and Houston earlier this season, did the league figure him out or did he have a couple of off days? Look at Mahomes against the 49ers, Jackson against the Steelers.

This board is constantly looking for excuses to dump Hurts, by and large he's hit the passes he needed to hit since the bye and he hasn't been throwing picks or fumbling the ball away, with a bit more luck here and there we'd be undefeated, should the passing game have been better Yesterday? 100% it should've, does that mean we should trade Hurts and take a shot with a rookie next year? Are you nuts? the grass isn't always greener.

Thielen clearly won that battle yesterday.

Can someone explain to me why we aren't spamming AJ slants/crosses etc and Barkley to start games? Am I missing something. AJ should have a number of designed targets in opening drives. Help me. What am I missing?

Big-picture view. If I told you before the Panthers game that we would win with no major injuries, BUT we would look bad...we would have taken that. The long-term view is still the SB.

I fully expect a bounce-back game and to beat the Steelers, especially if PIckens doesn't go. If we beat the Steelers, we will essentially lock up the #2 seed by week 17 (would only need more win or 1 Commanders loss).

we are. and the QB holds the ball.

They’re scared of Hurts throwing over the middle?

Just by a lot.  9 receptions for 102 yards, 7 of them were converted for first downs.

So, yeah, Thielen won that battle hands down.   Which is good for Dejean long term.  He hadn't matched up with a crafty, slippery vet.   So, he got to learn how the slower slots play and create space for themselves.  He needed to learn that lesson, and hopefully he has enough tape to learn from now.

100% agree.  Right now the only two concerns are Elliott and Hurts being able to be effective enough passing should a more wide open type of game in the playoffs dictate throwing.

I'm not seeing those route combinations at the start of games. Not seeing the Texas routes to Saquon. Start the game off with high percentage passes to your stars to get in rhythm. Preferably off of play action since the world is scared of Saquon.

I really wonder how well he sees the middle of the field.  He's not tall, and our OL is massive.  Jurgens is the only one under 6'6", and he's still 6'3".  Meanwhile, Hurts is barely 6' 1".    He might literally be blind back there.   He needs to wear lifts in his cleats.

It feels like there should be some really easy wins there in the pass game and yet there isn’t. And a number of us have said so many times that you watch other teams and there’s always easy completions with guys wide open. All of our passes are either a great deep ball (and catch) or a broken play.

Not buying that one. They ran those plays to finally try to get some targets to Brown and they seem to always work.

Hurts over the last three games:

532 yards and 6 TDs

Allen last night:

424 and 6 TDs

I don't want to see the comparison again

Hurts misses wide open throws constantly, is gun shy and gets happy feet in the pocket.

Scheming guys open does happen, we just don't take advantage of it

Really bad timing for AJ to start sulking and spouting off publicly in the middle of a nine game winning streak.  Yes he was open several times yesterday and Hurts didn't get him the ball but you'd like AJ to keep that frustration in the locker room.  Something Nick has to deal with right away.
