EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

So the beginning of last week, the majority in here were saying run the ball against the Panthers. The game plan was apparently that.  Now the first series, there was some mention of Barkley having an equipment issue so that had an initial impact.  But ran the ball they did.  Heck, I think two of Hurts "sacks” were really TFLs on run plays for him.  Yet all this criticism of the lack of passing.  The game plan was to run on a poor run defense.

Moore seemed a bit out of sync in his play calling.  The OL struggled a bit.  Might have been Jurgens’ roughest game although not his first struggle this year.

Yes, Hurts had a poor game.  I do wonder if part of Brown’s and Devonta’s frustration isn’t with Hurts, it’s that there was too much stress on not turning the ball over that has made Hurts reluctant to throw it at times.  I suspect they are working to cure the level of risk that is acceptable to loosen the reins a bit.

If you think about it,  that sounds absolutely ridiculous.

Sheil had some interesting stat nuggets on his pod. We are getting sacked on 9.8% of drop backs which is somehow worse than 2020, especially when you consider the state of the o-line that year.

Also to circle back to EPA, according to that stat yesterday’s offense was in the 77th percentile around the league this season. Thats the tricky thing with EPA because I don’t think anyone would agree yesterdays offensive showing was that good.

Advanced metrics are only so advanced.  Mostly they are number games people can play.

Holding the offense back so much we put as many points on Green Bay as anybody else has this season, including everyone's favorite mighty Detroit Lions in 2 attempts.

This boards reaction to a duff offensive game is beyond parody these days, you'd think we were playing out the dead rubbers in a season we were going to end with a top 5 pick.

People (not you) saying they wish the coaches would give Tanner McKee a go unironically and not being mocked mercilessly for the rest of time for suggesting a man who couldn't beat out Kenny Pickett for the back up job might be the answer.

I agree with the Tanner McKee crap but Hurts is NOT a 51 million QB actually none are but he is not a top QB that should be eating as much of our cap as he does.

No other QB has the luxury of what he has with this offense.. @ top WRs.. a top 3 RB, a top 5 OL throughout his his career here and when healthy a top 8 TE..no one..

he should have great stats, he should be able to throw a pass when it's supposed to be thrown. The offense has had to be stripped down to make Hurts comfortable and yet he still can't or

won't do it with the exception of handing it to Barkley. Put him on 20 other teams and he is not even considered a top 20 QB...there is a reason most rank him NOW as barely tip 10 and some don't. I'll root for the Birds every week but I'm NOT going to blindly say Jalen doesn't need to fix and work on his game

as much as he works on his corny little cliches every week.

I agree but that deal has aged well based on the QB deals that have come after it and it was the going rate for a QB when he signed it. Hurts had a lot of leverage coming off the 2022 season and Lurie has always rewarded his QBs.

For all the crying about Hurts, the team hasn't lost in a couple months. He's not turning it over and they keep winning.  Stop complaining like you're the ones cutting the checks.

I have no idea what BG was thinking.  I think he just started talking and is bored and just couldn't stop.

This will unify the team if anything.  They're too talented, and suffered too much last year to cave in again.  The defense won't let that happen, we don't have morons for coordinators anymore.

Hurts needs to find a good balance between taking risks and playing it safe and the coaches need to make sure he does that.  That's all.  Stop crying, this is a great football team.

Yeah guys, everyone agree about everything and have zero discussion, the way a message board was designed to be!

The top WR beefing with the QB in the middle of a potential super bowl run is the most Eagles ish ever. Locker room chemistry is important, and this issue has the potential to be super toxic, as we all should know.

Time for CEO HC to earn his paycheck.

You're 100% free to act like you're in a sewing circle and overdramatize a football team if you want.

This has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing and God knows some people have to post about Hurts being garage at least 5 times per day to feel normal

He's scared now of throwing a pick

I do think that’s a part of it. He’s so focused on not turning it over that he’s hesitating and he’s not throwing those passes up for those contested catches. Unfortunately though those INTs haven’t been his problem it’s been the bad reads.

It isn't just the contested catches that he's not throwing, he's not throwing to open receivers at times either.  Is it vision, confusion or fear?   Something is amiss.

Oh no sorry I know I’m just saying he’s even stopped those deep passes which were working earlier this year. The pass game has stalled big time and it has to get fixed.

Maybe now is a good time for me to remind you that a guy with incredible longevity, a magnetic personality, and a huge play in the SB, but who has averaged something like 5 sacks per year is one of the most overrated eagles in recent memory based on the ratio of adoration to how good he actually is/was.

Need a little attention this morning?

So, can Graham have free reign in the locker room, travel with the team, etc. after his colossal f-up yesterday?  I'd venture a bunch of players are going to be pissed and not want him around, not just H & B.

This team has had a culture problem since 2018 with the Wentz/Foles/Alshon drama, not to mention the Lurie/Doug drama.

These guys are f'in toxic. Even a veteran captain like BG doesn't know when to STFU.

This is 2023 all over again. If they lose to PIT, the bottom will fall out... again.

So sick of this s***.

Eagles are 6th in NFL wins since 2018. We will be 5th by the end of the year, passing the Saints.

That’s actually lower than I expected, the Saints have had more wins that us? Was not expecting that.

The funniest part of what Graham is saying is it’s as though he believes going and talking to Hurts will be like having a heartfelt dialogue with an emotionally available buddy you can say anything to with no grudges held.

I guarantee you talking to Hurts man-to-man would be like talking to a post.  He speaks entirely in slogans and catch phrases and doesn’t give off a genuine vibe at all.  He seems pretty damn unapproachable, really.

AJ: Yo, bro…why can’t you like, throw the ball, at all?

Hurts: You gotta keep the main thing the main thing. *stares into space*

AJ: But it’s like you don’t even see me dawg. Can you see over the linemen?

Hurts: It’s a turd. You don’t look at it. You just flush it.

AJ: You calling me a turd?

Hurts: *stares into space* Flush.

This city can turn on you quick. TO, Jason Peters, Alshon, Wentz, Doug etc.

Graham is beloved, but if things spiral, he’s going to get a lot of blame for stirring s*** up.
