If it wasn't broken, then AJ wouldn't have said it was after the game with his "PASSING" response, which started the whole fire storm.

What do the players that are on the team know?

The play last Sunday where Brown is wide open down the right side, wide open, Hurts with great protection, looks right at the wide open Brown, watches him get more wide open, then checks it down to Barkley for a short gain.  We want Hurts to make the correct decision and throw the ball to Brown.  Brown was obviously his first read as he was staring him down and he makes the wrong decision.   Is it too much to ask for your QB to hit the wide open first option?  I don't think so.

I hate to break it to ya, but every single QB misses WR's/players that are open each game.  I think the reason it was so glaring in the last game is because Hurts is only throwing like 20 times (if that) a game.  I get the concern for Sunday's game and can admit that he was off, but fans and sports shows being overly critical is silly.  AJ and Smitty don't put up the numbers they've had the past 2 seasons if Hurts has always had an issue throwing to open WR's.  Brown has essentially had back to back 1500 yd receiving yard seasons, so let's settle down.

Anyway, I remember Burrow wasn't targeting Chase enough for a stretch last season and then Chase came out and said "I'm open. I'm always F'n open" over his frustration to reporters. And they actually lost games while all that happened. Every QB will have struggles

to be fair, his targets are naturally going to be down due to us only passing 19-20 times a game. He hasn't had a single game this season where he's had over 6 receptions, yet he's had multiple 100+ yard games from that.  I think we all want Hurts to not be so indecisive, and I'd personally like the pass attempts to go up a little, but I don't want Jalen, or any QB throwing for 30+ times a game.  I think the simple solution to all this is getting Smitty and AJ involved early.   Moore and Nick need to gameplan/script for the first 15 to involve the big 3.

You mean the first quarter... where this team has struggled mightily all year?   I guess that would be an example of how this offense has been broken all season, not just recently.

An under-discussed aspect of the possible Hurts/AJ Brown beef...

Looks like those two might not be a package deal anymore 🤔

Random stat of the day.  The Colts have 3 of the top 10 leading tacklers in the league

Zaire Franklin who is 1st with 135
Nick Cross who is 4th with 125
EJ Speed 10th with 117

Baun is currently 3rd with 129 (behind Franklin and Budda Baker) and Dean is 16th with 106 (right ahead of TJ Edwards who has 104).

Just thought it was odd to have 3 guys in top 10.  Go F yourself if you don't like it 🙂

The Colts and Panthers have all 6 of the top 6 leaders in snap counts on defense; it just means their offenses stink and their defenses are always out there to make tackles.

Not really bud. His YPA is due in part to his lack of throws and needing the longer throws to keep drives going. I think what a lot of people want to see is more of those short and intermediate passes.

Eh, I don't really see that. I mean, we had a 4th and 3 against the Giants, but he aired it out to AJ for a 40+ yard TD.  Also, most of the time when we're in 3rd and long, Jalen ends up running for the 1st. I won't deny that AJ is highly effective on slants and such, but I rarely see Hurts airing it out because we "need" a longer throw to keep drives going.

We have one of the most efficient offenses in the league. So you are trying to break something that isn't broken. Tell me, how smart do u think that is?

Help me understand … how are you measuring "one of the most efficient offenses in the league”?

With the HUGE disclaimer that I don't have the time, or desire, to watch the all-22 and never played:

I think a big part of the issue is defenses have basically decided to let us run to a large degree. Despite our monster rushing attack (best in the league), we aren't seeing guys playing 8-9 in the box and leaving their corners on islands. We seem to consistently see 7 in the box, and corners playing off with safety help or straight up zone in the secondary. It feels like defenses have basically decided that the only thing they can take away is the explosive passing plays, and they are daring us to run it over and over again, betting our patience will wear out. I get the strategy from the defense -- make us run it down the field, play zone to stop Barkley from breaking 20+ runs, surrender 5-7 yards on the ground and hope for either (i) a holding penalty or (ii) a couple one on one wins on the line to stop the run.

In a weird way, if Pittsburgh comes out with this strategy, I want Moore to call nothing but run plays until they are forced out of it.

EDIT: This makes it super frustrating when Jalen doesn't take the shot the one time it was there against the Panthers (he threw incomplete to Johnny Wilson). When they get a shot 1-on-1 for AJ or DeVonta, he has to take it.

When has this team/offense not been inconsistent during Sirianni's time here?  In 2022 they would start out hot, get big leads, and then just not put up points in the 2nd half.  Now they just don't score in the 1st quarter, but they score in the remaining 3.  I don't like slow starts either, but I'll take them getting better over the game rather than simply going cold in the 2nd half.

edit. I wouldn't say broken, because they don't really struggle to score over the course of an entire game, but those first quarter issues aren't all because of Jalen, lol.  I'd say it's just an issue with the offense not getting into their groove until 2nd quarter, as they're currently 4th in the league in 2nd qtr points per game. in the 3rd quarter they're ranked 7th, and the 4th quarter they're ranked 2nd!

It's efficient because they consistently put up points and move the ball downfield with a heavy run game.  It's not always super exciting/explosive, but it's efficient.  I actually like it too because those longer drives gives our defense some rest when they need it. It helps to allow them to play at a high level.

I feel like Nick and Kellen should look at Baltimore's passing scheme for answers to a degree, and they just studied them. If teams are playing zone to keep from getting beat over the top (and basically daring us to just keep running), Baltimore is seeing the same thing I am sure -- no one is playing a ton of man and having guys turn their backs on Lamar. They manage to get guys open for Lamar consistently.

Yards per game, time of possession, turnovers.

Baltimore faces a lot of stacked boxes. We face a lot of light boxes. For some reason (AJ Brown) teams play us and the Ravens totally differently.

The issue with Bmore is they stupidly fall into the trap and try to beat teams by passing.   We saw it in the loss to us, Lamar had opportunities to take off, but stayed in the pocket and tried to throw. Even his mom lectured him after the game! 😂

Interesting. So then eff it -- just run it over and over again until they get out of the shell coverage.

The eagles also have receivers open for Hurts constantly too. So now what?

"But you see different areas shining in different years. And so, it’s about the team. I don’t care how it looks. It’s kinda my game, and I think that’s something that people have to accept, that it’s gonna look how Jalen Hurts wants it to look. But he’s gonna win.”

Any questions as to why the passing game is a simple as it looks?  It's how Hurts wants it to look.

So was Goff's 15-30 - 240 yards - 2TD - 5INT game better because he had more yards? Also, are good team's carried by their QB? Dan Marino certainly carried Miami for years. Joe Burrow is carrying his team. Does that make those team's good? Which team is better --- the Eagles or Bengals?

So, you are saying that winning is based on more than just the QB's play.   That's good to know.  A lot of folks would point the EAGLES' win record and try to pretend that that's all due to the QB.   Burrow is absolutely balling out this year.  The Bengals have scored more than the Eagles.  But, their main problem is that their defense is putrid.   For comparison purposes, the Eagles have allowed 234 points, meanwhile, the Bengals have allowed 360!   Only the Raiders (361), Cowboys (366) and Panthers (388) have allowed more.  Hard to win when your defense can't stop anybody.

But, thanks for pointing out the importance of the ENTIRE TEAM for winning in the NFL.  It's good to see that some folks understand reality, even though I don't think that was the point you were really trying to make.

Yup. It may not make people happy, but with this defense and our running game, it's a winning formula.

Its pretty fascinating that he wants it to look like him not throwing to open receivers, and taking bad sacks, holding the ball too long, and turning it over if he does get to pass it a lot. I dont get it. Why does he want it to look that way?

That's the frustrating part.   The shots are there and plays are there to be made, but they aren't.  We can argue about the whys, but the reality is that there are plays to be made that aren't and that's where the frustration really comes from.   I don't think Brown is really upset about the run-pass balance, he'd be foolish to be quite honestly, but I think what does upset him is that the team isn't actually passing the ball very efficiently when they do pass it.  And I think THAT is the frustrating part.
