What in the world are we doing here??? I thought the Eagles wordmark was a downgrade. I'm a minimalist at heart but this new minimalist design trend is just garbage.

IMO, after Douglas left Howie started to move towards the consensus draft board.  We still needed to scout every player to determine positional fit, culture fit, red flags, etc.  But I think Howie recognized that trying to be smarter than 31 other teams wasn't working.  Instead, he started to lean on his strengths of assigning value, trade arbitrage, and reading the draft.  His run since 2021 is impressive.

He also clearly moved towards valuing measurables, athleticism and potential more than he had before.

Almost all of our picks seem to be impressive HWS prospects.

I think Stoutland has shown Howie a model:

1) Get high end coaches

2) Use consensus draft board

3) Weight evaluations towards plus athletes

4) Use Lurie’s long term stability and trade arb to accumulate assets

Over time this gives the Eagles an edge.

Kelce is considered a smallish center but he’s bigger than all those guys except for Dawson. Those two are about the same size. It’s a problem when measuring players from different eras against each other. I’d put Kelce and Dawson 1A and 1B and clearly better than the others mentioned. I’m surprised no one mentioned Concrete Charlie, whom I’d rate above Ringo or Otto but his best position was MLB. Getting back to Kelce, he was a real unicorn. He revolutionized the position.

Curious on your take of Alabama center Parker Brailsford.

He seems to be even a bit smaller than Kelce, but the athleticism, range and ability to get low on lineman reminds me of a young Kelce.

My favorite Eagles uniform

My game day jersey use to be one of those (Jaws) until I retired it for a M&N Dawkins jersey in 2019.

The Jaws jersey stuck out and on more than occasion an EMB member unexpectedly found me in the stadium (both home and away games)

I do too, but I was long gone from Dallas in 2005 when he was drafted by the Cowboys. I had to like him from afar.  With Emmitt, it was a very close connection.  I really admired how well he handled all the attention that Aikman got, while he got very little by comparison.

And in Emmitt’s era, franchise rb was essentially equivalent to franchise qb in importance and even stature.

At his peak, I'd put Andrews a shade under Allen, but above nearly all the other guards of his era.  Shame it all ended so soon.

I’d argue that Shawn never peaked…

Yeah... that's fair, but even so, he did have a high point.

He has more time and more incentive to work on it than you do.   So, I think there's hope for Jake.   But, I think there is a little something to the idea that he has been underutilized.  As the weather gets colder, it would benefit him, I believe, for him to do the kickoffs to just keep his legs warmed up and keep him focusing on results.  Kicking into a net doesn't show you if the ball is doing as you intend it to or not.

I weighed that but then approached it from a different fact set approach.   How many times is a kicker’s first kick in a game a FG or PAT?  So wouldn’t we expect those to have a higher percentage of misses if kickoffs are a driver.

As to the missed kicks over 50 might be impacted by if he is practicing kickoffs at all, basically practicing really driving the ball hard.

I do think he had a case of the yips last game.  I expect that will be short lived.

I thought Montana, Marcus Allen and Father Time played together in KC.  🤔

I was a bit young…but Montana wasn’t washed yet.  Young was just the next HOF guy they had and it was time to move on.  Kind of like when we moved onto Kolb!

He was pretty close.  He was two years removed from the game essentially, coming off some serious injuries,  Even nearly washed, he was smart enough to compensate.

And he always seemed to have this giant elbow bursitis.

First half recap:

I have no idea how the announcers feel about the game.
I’m fairly hammered for drinking top shelf all inclusive booze since 10 am (9 am for you east coast gringos)

Schmoopie is passed out for that same reason.
And apparently the main bar is still open. I found that out just now sneaking out the back sliding glass door so I dont wake schmoopie or Ellie.

Pro tip - Adults only all inclusive without the kid.  Even if it just 3-4 nights if you can swing it.  Wife and I do that.  Great marriage recharge.

Ellie still takes mid day naps so that helps.

Yes, but the total unplug from parenting with no kids in sight is money.

we tried that on our 10 year anniversary. 5 day cruise to Bermuda. And all we kept thinking and saying is oh the kids would have loved this, or that. Thought about them constantly and felt bad not taking them.

Just a hunch, but I think the Jefferson fiasco meant Lurie had way less input on anything draft related, which has resulted in the franchise drafting wayyyy better.
