EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

I said that so we get the #1 Seed comfortably.   We all agree that Lions could lose 2.  But nobody is talking about Minny could too.  They have Greenbay and Seattle, both playing for the Playoffs.  Then they also have division game against the Bears and Lions.   Again I'm basing this on the Eagles winning out going 15-2.   Because a 3 Way 14-3 tie, I don't think we get the #1 Seed based Minny and the Lions have a better SOV.

I agree. The problem here is Minnesota. If the Lions drop a game to the Bills, they need to win out to get the #1 seed. If Minnesota drops a game before the Detroit game in week 17, they are locked into the #5 seed. There is nothing to play for in week 17 other than bragging rights. Minnesota will use that week as a rest week, just like the Eagles.

The only way I could see it working is for Detroit to drop two and Minnesota to drop one, but it would have to be the right games.

Detroit would need to lose to the Bills and then either to the Bears or 49ers. If they enter that week 17 game with something on the line, Minnesota and Detroit will play a tough game. For Detroit, it would be to win the division. For Minnesota, it would be for the #1 seed. The Eagles obviously would need to win out.

Nice try though.

Ugh!

The Media criticised Tomlin for making the switch to Russ but I believe he did it exactly for this reason. Tomlin knew their schedule was going to be wild down the stretch and he wanted that experience Russ has.  They are scoring more points since the switch too.   I thought Justin played well though in his 6 games.  The Steelers have the hardest remaining schedule in the league including 3 games in 11 days.

And this game means less to them than the other three.

True. but they still can get the 1 seed if they win out and the chiefs lose another game besides their matchup.

Of course they would love to finally get one in Philly but for them to win the Division, They know the Bmore game is the biggest target. I'm not saying they will be looking past us.  But they know as you said if this game is a loss, it won't derail their season.

I really wonder how much this weighs on the minds of the average pro athlete.   The Steelers and Eagles play about every 4 years... so about every 8 years in Philly.   How many of them would have lost even once, let alone twice in Philly with the Steelers?   I think the fans notice these things, but the players don't, specifically about inter-conference games.  How many Eagles players actually knew that the Eagles had never won in Cincinnati?  I doubt any of them had a clue until someone in the media told them.

Thanks to the 17th game, they lost in Philly two years ago.

Hurts had 3 dime TDs to Brown in that one.  Hurts wasn't very good last year and looking back at that game he's not even close to that level right now.

Threw the first into double coverage.  He's a more conservative passer now.

Weird thing is,  his turnovers are mostly fumbles.  And his interceptions pretty much have not come when airing it out to brown in double and triple coverage.  There's not really been any reason for him to turtle up about those throws.

The Eagles will get a bye even with the #2 seed assuming they take care of business, because if the Eagles continue to win(even if they fall to the Steelers) there's really no scenario barring a collapse where the final game vs the Giants has meaning. The only teams close record wise are teams in the NFC North that can't have a higher seed because they won't be division winners.

Love these aggregator fake ass news accounts that put "BREAKING:" on stuff like this. What nonsense.

Lose to the Steelers and the Commanders and suddenly those final 2 games matter.  Also if the Eagles win this week and the Lions lose then Eagles will for sure be playing that final week in hopes Vikings beat the Lions in the final week.  Assuming Vikings lose another game here so that they wouldn't have the advantage over the Eagles for the #1 seed.

Hard hitting journalism these days. We're so lucky we live in a time where we can know what songs the Eagles play at practice and what the players wear to walk from their car to the locker room.

Hurts is only throwing deep on 2% of his drop backs in the last 4 games, that's last in the NFL over that span. He has just stopped throwing the ball deep to Brown and Smith.

Honestly, that's the quickest fix for this passing game. It's not throwing over the middle, it's allowing his elite WRs to make plays on contested balls they'll win the majority of the time one on one.
