The problem is he is due another $13,995,000 option bonus for 2025, so if you let him play out the contract, he counts ~23mm in dead money in 2026 to not be on the team (pay $14mm in cash but only charge 20% (~2.8mm) in 2025, adding ~11.2mm more in dead money). There's just no way you can let him play 2025 and pay that bonus -- he needs to restructure/extend or be cut. The last year of Howie's deals with unguaranteed option bonuses are set up not to be paid.

Good to know.  I only looked at the dead cap.  So, the very likely scenario is we use a fairly high pick and go after someone.  Maybe the 2nd round pick.

Howie's contracts almost all have small salaries and large option bonuses every year. Means there is nothing to restructure, and every year someone is on the roster the dead money at expiration keeps increasing.

Number 1 in the power rankings

I’m guessing he’s restructured then or designated as a post June 1st cut (as based on both over the cap and spotrac they save more money against the cap that way). I can’t see them moving forward with just handing calcaterra the starter spot and FA in 2025 isn’t great at the position. Granted 2026 has a good FA te class. I do wonder if they’d call Cleveland about njoku and his availability. However he’s also not the epitome of health.

We need to start some rumors...  maybe a deep fake of him in a gas mask and bong.

Meh.  That’s a bit too normal nowadays. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Foxworth is an absolute clown.  The best way to silence these idiots is to stop watching

I remember one called Catch Her In The Eye.  I don't remember who was in it ..... but the title was memorable, at least.

Any chance the league looks at the video of the altercation and dishes out suspensions to Slay or Mitchell?

No

Punching at a helmet is enough punishment

They also have to deal with Greenlaw (FA after this year), McCaffrey is 28 but has gteed money for 2025, and Hargrave has no gteed money left.

The window is closed.

I am going to troll Niners fans that I see today and just yell "CLOSED!" over and over and louder and louder, until they fight me or cry.  I suspect they will counter with our 2023 collapse, as they like to live in the past.🤣

I think Foxworth was joking

Fines? Possibly. Suspensions? No.

I think the only way Goedert is on the roster in 2025 is if he agrees to restructure and reduce his 2025 comp. I'm not sure they can post June 1 him early since they likely use those slots on JB and Slay, but I guess any one of those guys could actually be held until after June 1 assuming the option bonuses aren't due before then. There are small savings cutting Goedert pre June 1, but Slay would cost an extra almost $9mm (~22mm dead cap) and JB is an extra ~3mm ($10.8mm dead money). Post June 1, Slay's dead money in 2025 drops to ~9.4mm, and $13.3mm moves into 2026. JB's dead cap drops to just over $3mm, with $7.7mm pushed to 2026. So using the post June 1 on those guys adds almost $9mm in 2025 cap from the baseline (keeping them on the roster) and pushes $21mm to 2026. That's the real bang for the buck on the post June 1 cuts.

We are already carrying ~$26mm of dead money in 2025 for Kelce and Cox, and BG and Sweat could add to that as well. So I am guessing Howie looks to move Slay and JB's money to 2026, and if he has to cut Goedert and take the full $11mm in 2025, he does. I hope he agrees to a reduced number, but who knows.

Oh man, going to have to chalk this game up as an L

The Burrow disrespect is hilarious

Mahomes having a down year is being in the "big 4" any other year and he's in a tier all by himself

I think it's part of a larger thought that the Niners may look to tear it down and start the rebuild. Trent Williams is 36 -- his new contract probably makes him unmovable for 2025, but they have to think about it as he has real value. Kittle is 31, has no guaranteed money left, and is banged up. Deebo has no gteed money and 1 year left, and he has fallen off a cliff. While they have a lot of 2025 cap space, they basically have none in 2026 as structured, so moving guys and taking dead money in 2025 makes sense. And obviously they have a decision to make on Purdy.

On top of that, Shanahan is a great play designer but subpar game coach.

If I were running that team, I'd let Purdy walk, move Williams/Kittle/Deebo, and try to rebuild.

I don't think that's what is going to happen.  The speculation about trading Shanahan isn't from the 49ers organization.  It's apparently not something Shanahan wants. I would have to think they would get rid of Lynch too if that was the case.  If I was Lynch, I would not want to get rid of Purdy or Shanahan.    Sure you may luck into a better coach but it's just as likely the re-build doesn't work.  Purdy is a young QB.  Just try to win by building around him.

So what do the sheet tinklers of TATE have to complain about this week?

Didn't win by enough?

I really want to see what Wentz can do in an Andy Reid offense so hope they let Mahomes rest that ankle on Saturday. They have a couple game buffer on that top seed so it would be smart.
