EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Last night's game showed me two things about the direction the NFL is going that I don't like.

1. Exclusive streaming. I was watching the GA Tech/NC State game primarily and had no idea there was such a great snow game on because of the inability to easily switch from game to game. Didn't realize it until I hopped on social feeds and before then the game was almost over. I hate TNF for that reason, among others. 100% of the time, if I know a snow game is on, I'm watching it and I bet lots of other casual fans would do the same.

2. Teams wanting to build domes. If Cleveland gets a dome, we aren't seeing that game last night. Dome games have no atmosphere to them at all. Keep football in the elements. I understand the financial perks by being able to host more events but ugh, indoor football just sucks the life out of the game IMO.

Such an advantage for the team.

This is why he's famous Jameis

Does anyone else feel like this Eagles/Rams game isn't getting much buzz around here?  Not just here as in the EMB, but talk radio, social media, etc. If I didn't know any better I'd think there wasn't a game this week!

This is actually a big game.  Rams will be tough.  Their offense will be a great test for our newly minted top defense.

I just spent the last two hours with the hotel staff to try to get the Internet working  in our room only to find that the game is blocked here.  Not Amazon prime video, just the game <_<

The game was blacked out for me as well in Barbados 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I love the Tush Push on 3rd and 1 from midfield.  Great weapon.  😕

Agreed.  Definitely a big game.  I’m looking for the Offense to grind out 473 Total Yards and the Defense to keep the Rams under 250 Total Yards and no more than 7 points … an Eagles domination in all four Quarters.

I honestly don't think it matters.

There's been great games in domes and also outdoors in the elements.

There's also been terrible games in both settings.

I'm not even from Philly, but I love that guy. I'm not sure I'll ever understand why some fans don't. He's such a good guy through and through, and just embodies what it means to be a football player in every respect. Some former players put on this persona after they retire so they can make a name for themselves on one of the talking head shows, but he's not like that at all. What you see truly is who he is.

Wentz' knee hit the ground before he was touched, so he was considered down at that spot, not where he was touched by a defender, unlike any other runner would be.

And yet Daniel Jones was given an extra five yards against us when he tripped in the open field and his knee went down. Rules for thee but not for me.

happy friday

That would be something.  Their offense is healthy now.

The elements can make a relatively mundane game into an instant classic.   Last night's game held no intrinsic value of significance.  BUT, add in the snow element... and immediately the interest level rises.

How many times have the Eagles played the Lions over the years?  How many of those games do you really remember?   Probably just the Wild Card game in 1996 and the Snow game with Shady running all over them.  Meanwhile, the rest of those games would likely be about the same in terms of importance in the standings as the Eagles Lions snow game was... but they don't stand out, because they had nothing of note to add to the matchup.

Elements add to the legend of the sport.   The Ice Bowl stands out amongst championship games, because of the weather, not because it was the Packers and Cowboys.   And not because it was the NFL Championship before the first Super Bowl.  If it did, you'd know something about the matchup in the AFL.  And I'd wager most folks don't know who the Chiefs played to advance to the Super Bowl that year, nor which of those teams hosted that game.

I hope we end up with a pay for view system.  I hate having to subscribe to so many streams to watch games.

Make retractable roofs mandatory for a new stadium and only close if tons of rain or bitter cold.

I wonder if Embiid and the Sixers are absorbing time.  Philly radio loves the tragedy more than the glory.  If Eagles lose Sunday, I am sure the airwaves will be busting with how bad they are and how bad they will lose to the Ravens.

Yeah, that retractable roof in Dallas is making for a great experience for everyone.

Ha...yeah every time I've turned on WIP this week it has been all about the Sixers.  You're right...it's better for their business to focus on the bad.

Steelers are frauds. Not sure how they’re 8-2

Forgot there was a game last night.  I'd like to end Thursday night football, please.

Steelers are a good team.  They are well coached, play good defense.  But who on that offense do you circle and say "we can't let that guy hurt us"?
