Forgot there was a game last night.  I'd like to end Thursday night football, please.

Steelers are a good team.  They are well coached, play good defense.  But who on that offense do you circle and say "we can't let that guy hurt us"?

Missed a very aesthetically appealing game in a snow storm.

That would be something.  Their offense is healthy now.

Agreed, but one can hope!

The LA Rams are another stepping stone for the Eagles. Every game has gotten tougher and the Eagles have risen to the occasion. This game is another step with even better teams on the horizon. I would like to see the passing game improve since one of these weeks some team will shut down the running game and force the Eagles to pass. Let's get it going.

The elements can make a relatively mundane game into an instant classic.   Last night's game held no intrinsic value of significance.  BUT, add in the snow element... and immediately the interest level rises.

How many times have the Eagles played the Lions over the years?  How many of those games do you really remember?   Probably just the Wild Card game in 1996 and the Snow game with Shady running all over them.  Meanwhile, the rest of those games would likely be about the same in terms of importance in the standings as the Eagles Lions snow game was... but they don't stand out, because they had nothing of note to add to the matchup.

Elements add to the legend of the sport.   The Ice Bowl stands out amongst championship games, because of the weather, not because it was the Packers and Cowboys.   And not because it was the NFL Championship before the first Super Bowl.  If it did, you'd know something about the matchup in the AFL.  And I'd wager most folks don't know who the Chiefs played to advance to the Super Bowl that year, nor which of those teams hosted that game.

The Eagles-Lions Thanksgiving game in 1968 was incredibly memorable. And historically significant. The Eagles were winless and appeared to be poised to select O.J. Simpson in the coming draft. But in a rainstorm in Detroit, with both teams in muddied jerseys (I asked my father how he can tell the teams apart and he simply said that he just can, which somehow impressed me), the Eagles won 12-0 on four Sam Baker field goals, one in each quarter.

Even so, they were still in position to get O.J. But they won their next game, picked third, and took Leroy Keyes, a future bust. The Steelers picked fourth and took Mean Joe Greene. (We routinely blew top ten picks like that in those days. It was tragic how inept our front office was. It wasn’t until 1973 that we took someone in the first round who was actually good.)

But you are right in the sense that weather was a significant part of the lore of that game.

Who would you rather have, Kenny Pickett or Daniel Jones?

McKee

And then specialty packages with Jones and Saquon as the flankers

Pickett is a Daniel Jones who can’t run over LBers

Looks like loan sharks got him

Over the last 2 years, Jay Leno has had the following:

-Severe burns all over his body from a "garage fire"

-Bad both kneecaps, collarbone and ribs broken after being "clotheslined" on a motorcycle

-Half of his face smashed, finger nail torn off and wrist broken after "falling down a hill" while walking over 1 mile to eat dinner?

Something doesn't add up here.

Last night's game showed me two things about the direction the NFL is going that I don't like.

1. Exclusive streaming. I was watching the GA Tech/NC State game primarily and had no idea there was such a great snow game on because of the inability to easily switch from game to game. Didn't realize it until I hopped on social feeds and before then the game was almost over. I hate TNF for that reason, among others. 100% of the time, if I know a snow game is on, I'm watching it and I bet lots of other casual fans would do the same.

So, you're saying if the game were on cable TV and not Prime, you would have been scrolling through channels and land on the Steelers/Browns game? We all know by now that there is NFL football on Thursday night it's been for years. The problem is a lot of people don't care unless it's their team.

The thing is technology changes how we consume media over time, obviously. You can't go to Blockbuster and rent a VHS anymore either. Cars don't come with CD players. Things change. A long time ago before cable, there was only 3 local networks. With cable, there were other sports to watch but you had to pay extra, just like with paying extra to get a streaming service. Cable and satellite ruled for awhile there so it became the norm that people paid money for a cable package. Even then, you had to pay extra if you wanted to get specialized channels or the sports package. The base package wouldn't have all the sports, so you had to pay extra to get NFL Network, ESPN2, etc. Sports including playoff games will be exclusively on cable networks like TBS or TNT. So we accepted for a long time that you would pay extra money for exclusive broadcast on paid cable channels for sports instead of the free local networks.

Now that technology is moving to streaming, it's actually making it easier for fans who don't have cable and satellite to access. I don't think they should make it exclusive, I think they should simulcast for awhile to accommodate both groups (cord cutters and cable subscribers). Paramount+ airs the local CBS games on Sundays, Peacock airs the NBC Sunday Night Game. I think that's the way to do it, provide both options so more viewers see it, and you get more money from ad dollars because they know you are reaching more audience.

But streaming is the future. Sports are about the only thing making cable/satellite hang on by a thread. And they're moving toward streaming it is inevitable.

Jones if all things equal, but not at Daniels Jones price tag

The Giants never learn.  They created a PR disaster with how they handled the transition from Eli Manning, and now this.  Whenever you're faced with a difficult personnel and P.R. decision you have to go the "honest and transparent" route.  Schoen and Daboll should have sat down with Jones and his agent:

"Hi Daniel.  We're 2-8 and have to make some hard decisions on our future.  We've decided we're going to be in the QB draft market next April and we simply cannot take the chance on being left with $23M in dead money if you get injured before the end of the season.  For that reason, we're elevating both DeVito and Lock to #1 and 2 on our depth chart, and they will be the ones in uniform on Sundays.  We're hoping that you will help both guys throughout the week with film study, preparation, and general work habits.  We're thankful for all the work and effort you've given us these past six years and will happily recommend you to other teams if they contact us for info on making a free agent decision on you in future."

What's Jones going to say??  He's made damn near $100M in cash over the 6 years.  It would look pretty bad if he pouted or put in a grievance, and his statement yesterday was professional.  I'm sure he'd have been "the good employee" for two more months.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I don't always remember there's TNF on because I don't just go to Prime. I'll try to watch a college game or just have the TV on in the background with Seinfeld or something on. If I had flipped and saw a glorious snow game, I damn well would have stopped and watched.

The way he answered it makes Smith seem like a toss up this week

There are a lot of glorious things happening in the world that you might not accidentally happen on by changing channels. Something could be at commercial at the moment. There could be things on social media feeds, breaking news, all sorts of things. There are exclusive channels for MLB, NBA Network too where if you don't pay extra, you would miss out on some good games. You're also saying that if it weren't snowing, you probably wouldn't watch. So your complaint is that when a game with a crappy team just happened to be in the snow, it also just happened to be on a streaming service instead of cable TV. You could say the same about all the games on Sundays that you don't see unless you pay extra for Sunday Ticket.

If they can't determine on a hamstring by Friday, he really shouldn't play Sunday night for risk of aggravating it.  Move Dotson outside, make AJ Brown/Goedert/Barkley the volume targets and mix in Dotson a bit more.

Daniel Jones for practice squad safety!

To an extent you could say that, but TNF is the only game in town so if it's on cable, I'm more prone to watch it. I'm a notorious channel surfer. Thursdays were great for the Flyers, NFL and College. Flip through and enjoy all.

Oddly enough, my cable has changed mid-season it seems. I used to get 3 games per Sunday. Fox early and late games and then either the Ravens or Steelers on CBS. Now I might not get any Fox games at all if the Eagles aren't on. Maybe that's part of the NFC/AFC no longer being locked in to Fox and CBS? But I've gone from at least 3, sometimes 4 games to now just 1 or 2.

This. Precisely this. The reason the Eagles opted for Pickett was because his price tag was pretty modest. The savings they were generating from acquiring him -- as compared to paying an established veteran like Mariota or Minshew -- was worth the delta in a third for fourth round pick swap. (Granted the third we're sending is probably going to be higher than Howie anticipated and the fourth we're getting with be lower.) [EDIT -- I have mixed up the Pickett and Dotson trades in my mind. Whoops.]

He's older than he thinks. That's the problem. What's not adding up are all the years in his head and he does stuff that shouldn't be done by someone 10 years younger than him.
