EMB Blog: 2024 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Quote

After the San Francisco 49ers offense was dominated in a 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch last month (and lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a season-ending knee injury in the same game), there was still belief that Kyle Shanahan’s team would be able to find their footing when running back Christian McCaffrey returned from the Achilles injury that had sidelined him for the first half of the season.

But in the two games since McCaffrey’s return, we’ve yet to see the type of offense we’ve grown to expect out of a Shanahan-coached group, and McCaffrey has been unable to create plays in space like he did last season, when the San Francisco offense was nearly unstoppable and he was arguably the most valuable non-quarterback in the league. McCaffrey’s return also hasn’t provided a boost to the passing game, and San Francisco continues to be mired by its poor execution in late-game situations.

Now at 5-5 (and 1-3 in the NFC West), the 49ers enter the toughest stretch of their schedule with their season on the brink. Every loss triggers a referendum on Shanahan and his offense, which doesn’t look right, even though the data is telling us there’s nothing wrong with that side of the ball.

He's older than he thinks. That's the problem. What's not adding up are all the years in his head and he does stuff that shouldn't be done by someone 10 years younger than him.

He definitely owes the mob massive gambling debts.

He’s definitely getting picked up on Monday by somebody at vet minimum. Who is most likely to want him?

Miami, Tua has health problems and their backups are bad.

Minnesota, backup QB is out for the year and the other guy is Nick Mullens. Darnold has had multiple nagging injuries and you can’t let Mullens decide your playoff fate.

Tennessee, their QB is horrible and they’re definitely drafting one next year. Daniel may start immeditaely

Cleveland, if something happens to Jameis it’s the Daniel Jones show.

Dallas is probably the best option out of all of them. Jerry will not play Trey who he traded a 4th for because he’s that bad, but they still pulled Cooper for Trey in the Eagles game because HE was that bad as well. Daniel may get the job day 1.

This is not implausible at all that he’s playing against NYG on thanksgiving

I’d say the raiders probably up there. They have minshew but went out and got Ridder. Niners might be considering purdy is dealing with an injury.

id laugh if woody Johnson signed him and benched Rodgers lol

Guess he's out Sunday. Milton Williams and Hunt are practicing.

They have Tyrod, who is better than both

True but i still think it would be funny if woody Johnson did that.

I'm not even from Philly, but I love that guy. I'm not sure I'll ever understand why some fans don't. He's such a good guy through and through, and just embodies what it means to be a football player in every respect. Some former players put on this persona after they retire so they can make a name for themselves on one of the talking head shows, but he's not like that at all. What you see truly is who he is.

He is an all time Eagle and a great guy by all accounts. I like him fine as a person. No debate there. I’m just tired of the barrage of commercials, TV appearances, podcasts, Christmas records, etc. and now a TV show.

So he isn't playing Sunday.  Gotta hope it isn't a long term hamstring injury now where he's out for a month

Who would you rather have, Kenny Pickett or Daniel Jones?

I mean neither but Jones has more running ability if he doesn't blow a tire.

Is that the rumor mill in Bel Air?

I think he did this last year where he didn't practice all week but was ready to go on gameday.  I would rather they hold him out of the game than risk the injury getting worse.

The elements can make a relatively mundane game into an instant classic.   Last night's game held no intrinsic value of significance.  BUT, add in the snow element... and immediately the interest level rises.

How many times have the Eagles played the Lions over the years?  How many of those games do you really remember?   Probably just the Wild Card game in 1996 and the Snow game with Shady running all over them.  Meanwhile, the rest of those games would likely be about the same in terms of importance in the standings as the Eagles Lions snow game was... but they don't stand out, because they had nothing of note to add to the matchup.

Elements add to the legend of the sport.   The Ice Bowl stands out amongst championship games, because of the weather, not because it was the Packers and Cowboys.   And not because it was the NFL Championship before the first Super Bowl.  If it did, you'd know something about the matchup in the AFL.  And I'd wager most folks don't know who the Chiefs played to advance to the Super Bowl that year, nor which of those teams hosted that game.

True but there are also games played in the elements that were awful.

Not saying there can't be great games in the snow, rain or wind but there are many stinkers as well in those conditions.

I don't know if I'd call last nights game an instant classic tho. I don't think many people were going to not watch the game but then as soon as they hear it's snowing immediately it's must watch.   How the teams play each other and how close and competitive the game is make it must watch and that can happen indoors or outdoors.

Jones might be faster, but no one has a better repertoire than Kenny:

Over the last 2 years, Jay Leno has had the following:

-Severe burns all over his body from a "garage fire"

-Bad both kneecaps, collarbone and ribs broken after being "clotheslined" on a motorcycle

-Half of his face smashed, finger nail torn off and wrist broken after "falling down a hill" while walking over 1 mile to eat dinner?

Something doesn't add up here.

Some tough luck.

chance purdy doesn’t play vs. Gb this weekend based off this

At 5-5, they are getting close to must-win territory.  I gotta think they can't have any more than 2 more losses and they still have games against the Packers, Lions, and Bills.

Jones if all things equal, but not at Daniels Jones price tag

After he clears waivers he is a vet’s minimum contract in all likelihood
