It's been 10 long days but the Birds are Back to take over LA.   After flexing the Doug Game out of Primetime. This will be the Eagles last Primetime game unless something is flexed.  Based on the schedule only the Steelers and Ravens games will be flex worthy or maybe the Washington game again but this will probably be our last night game before the playoffs.   Sadly Smitty is out but we still have plenty of weapons to get this done.   The Eagles have won 8 of their last 10 games against the Rams including going 3-0 in LA.

The Washington game is worthy of being flexed.  Jerrah may try to convince the league to STOP showing his pitiful team on national TV.  Depends if FOX is willing to settle on Det/Chi as their feature game.

A job for VanSumeren

He is the pseudo-FB of the team.  Short-yardage should be the job for the position.

Anyway, they need to add some variations to the sneak play to make it harder to defend.  One is to pitch the ball to a RB behind the QB and run in on the side of the pile.  Jump over the pile may not be most successful, as the defense's main approach is coming over the top of the pile to stop the carrier.  When the carrier is air-bound, only has the momentum of the jump to carry forward.  That may not be enough if met with a well-timed defender in the air.

Yeah I noticed The Boys still have several primetime games left.  I could see Washington though that's a 1:00PM slot now.   I don't think Ravens will be flexed because it's Thanksgiving Weekend now so that's locked in for Sunday 4 PM.   So again that would leave Steelers.  They will not be flexing the Carolina, The Boys or GMen games.  Regardless I'm just happy The Eagles will be on the East Coast for the last 6 games.

They definitely need to address TE this offseason.  Although I like Calcaterra as the flex guy, they need to bring in the heir to Goedert.

I need to see if they sign Becton and/or Johnson before thinking about OL.  Steen has shown he could step in as the starter at RG next season.  Despite all that, I would endorse their recent approach of drafting a guy on day 2 and letting Stoutland coach him up (Dickerson, Jurgens, Steen).

Edge is the other spot that I anticipate they focus on.  That's the three positions (OL, Edge, TE) that I guess their first three picks would go.

I wouldn't be surprised by a WR.  The need for a good #3 as been amplified by injuries to Smith and Brown this season.

I’m interested in what type of edge that Vic would prefer:

Bigger DE that can bull rush, squeeze the pocket and is strong against the run (BG replacement).

Prototypical DE, pass rush specialist that can threaten the outside shoulder (Sweat)

Hybrid OLB/DE, jack of all trades (Smith/Hunt)

I figure options 1 and 2 would be of better use situationally, but I’ve seen a focus on interchangeability before.

I'm not sure how high he will go, but a technician like Emeka Egbuka would be ideal. I don't think he's a superstar, but I just think he's going to be a terrific pro. I can see him being able to step in to any position and excelling. Play him at WR3 but he could start if needed.

With Brown and Smith around, WR3 is a break-glass-when-needed role.  Egbuka would be a #1 on several other teams.  Can't see the need to use a high resource at WR.

Game day! Looking forward to being at the game today.. eagles are 15-2 all-time when I am in attendance… 8-1 in the state of CA

Let's do the statue of liberty play.  🙃

Or just take the ball under center hand it off to Barkley and take the 6 every damn time.  Or use Van S as the Fullback AND hand it off to Barkley.  Hurts can step out of the way and do that wave that QBs do when they are faking a pass.  Either would be a 99.99 success rate.  Tush push is a little cutesy now and really not needed IMO.

And I agree that there is no reason to get airborne as they like to jump up and over and down onto Hurts.

The thing about the tush push is that you just can't match it's success rate with any other single play. So when you get into that situation, choosing any other play is being "cutesy."

Whether the team is in a 3rd or 4th and short anywhere on the field or any down and goal at the opponent's 1 yard line, not only is the push money in the bank, it's very unlikely the offense will commit a penalty, such as holding, that really takes teams out of that "gimme" situation. How many times have we watched teams in football get to the 1 yard line and then blow it trying to score a TD on that series? It's much more frequent than the failure rate of the Eagles' tush push.

There were a couple losses we had last year where we didn't opt for the sure thing at key moments and it came back to bite us. That in a season where having 1 more win heading into the final week puts the #1 seed and 1st round bye on the line. That bye week would have been huge last season. As it stood we played a road Wildcard game without AJ Brown, without Blankenship and without being able to practice Hurts because of the dislocated finger on his throwing hand.

It's never cutesy to use your best play as soon as it's applicable.

Draft the kid from Penn State.

If we are talking WRs in the 2025 NFL Draft, I've got a name for you guys to check out.

J. Michael Sturdivant, WR, UCLA

6'3" 205 lbs

He made some insane catches last night in the game versus USC.

He was a projected 3rd or 4th round pick had he went pro last year. This year his numbers are down from a combination of injuries and bad UCLA QB play.

Projected to go 5th or 6th round in the 2025 NFL draft

I know we are supposed to root for the girls today. That it makes complete and total sense to do that. But I don't think it's in me. I can't lol.

Here’s the solution for you. Just root against Washington.

The need for a future #1 TE is greater than the #3 WR imo…Wilson or Dotson could fill the #3 role

That is exactly what we need

I hate the Cowboys more than other NFCE teams only because they’ve been more competitive recently (and most of their fans of course).  I have no issue switching my angst to Washington.

It’s funny…some Cowboys fans would comment on why I post on their boards…saying "why are you here…go back to your own board”, etc.  I’ve posted far less there this year because they are just not relevant

Would gladly take him in RD1 as the Goedert replacement.

Howie take a TE in the first round? It'd be nice to think he would but I very much doubt it. He was impressive yesterday.

I appreciate Warren as the Penn State offense often times seems to run through him. He has a Y build, and while unrefined the willingness to block.

Likewise, I like Tory Horton from Colorado State who had 96 catches last year. I believe he hurt his knee in October, so perhaps rather than a definite day 2 pick he might be available for our 3rd (late). Great hands, another slim reaper type.

Especially with one more year of Dotsons rookie contract

Probably the worst slate of weekend games of the season.

I think the Birds come out firing today…should be a complete domination in all phases.  Prolific passing day from Jalen.  Put the ‘we haven’t beat a good team’ or ‘struggle too much’ to rest.

I've had a bad feeling all week someone gets hurt. Hopefully, that's ghosts of 6 years ago nagging at me.

I think the defense will show up, but Hurts does what Hurts does and struggles and turns it over at the wrong time.

One of the kids is getting their first pick today. Jake will be back to being Jake and they win on a late FG.

Can the Rams muck up our run game with a heavy box and shade coverage towards AJ? I’d figure the plan would be to have Jalen beat them throwing the ball to anybody else since Smitty is out.

The defense was able to sit in C4 all game last week, you’d think that McVay would have a plan to move Vic off his spot.
