Yes we had record stores, but Columbia House would offer crazy deals as part of signing up for a subscription that would send you an album/cassette each month, and you would be charged full price if you don’t send them back. So, teens like myself would send in the penny and get the deal, and our parents wouldn’t find out until collection notices started coming in the mail. I remember hearing my mom on the phone with them and telling them I was only 14……
